OT HAZARD & RISK
• Hazard is an agent which has the potential to
cause harm to a vulnerable target.
• Hazard in the operating room are potential
source of harm or adverse health effect.
• Hazard is any agent that can cause harm or
damage to humans, property or the environment.
• Risk is defined as the probability that exposure to
a hazard will lead to a negative consequence.
• The OT team and the patient brought for surgical
treatment may come across various hazards.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF OT HAZARDS
According to the nature following are the OT
hazards:
• Physical hazards
• Chemical hazards
• Biological hazards
• Electrical hazards
• Psychosocial hazards
HEIRARCHY OF RISK MANAGEMENT
• Physically remove the hazards
• Replace the hazards
• Isolate people from the hazards
• Change the way people work
• Protect the worker with personal protective
equiptments
