CHANGING ROLE OF SCHOOL

Today, the role of a school is not only to work
towards academic excellence but also to motivate
the students to be lifelong learners, become
critical thinkers, provide them the skills to turn
out to be productive members of an ever-changing
global society and to empower them with the soft
skills to face all situations, whether positive or
negative, with equal ease.

Our world today is changing at such an accelerated rate. This make it imperative
that we as educators should pause and reflect on this entire system of Education and
start re building from the very foundation, in order create the required result. As per
today’s scenario, the aim of education should be to reach out and motivate the late
bloomers, to mold the mediocre and to challenge the gifted and talented”.

We all want to live in the society, where there is love, peace, joy, harmony, and
development, freedom from violence and from corruption. This dream of the society as
a whole will be realized only with a sound system of ‘Education’ with a firm foundation.
A school is not merely a building surrounded by four walls. It is a place that shapes the
personality of a child. If we want our society to prosper, then, the primary requirement
is quality education that is updated as per the need of the hour. This is so because it is
‘Education’ that helps to ignite the need to excel in the young mind and mold them to be
honest and make them the leaders of the society and the nation at large.

“SOME PEOPLE BELIEVE AND DEVELOP A PLAN

SOME PEOPLE DOUBT AND NEVER THINK THEY CAN

SOME PEOPLE FACE HURDLES BUT GIVE IT THEIR BEST

SOME PEOPLE BACK OUT WHEN FACED WITH THE TEST

WE ALL HAVE A CHOICE WE ALL HAVE A SAY

WE ARE SPECTATORS OF LIFE OR GET ON AND PLAY

WHICHEVER WE CHOOSE, HOW WE HANDLE LIFE’S GAME

THE CHOICES ARE OURS NO ONE ELSE IS TO BE BLAMED”

EDUCATION CANNOT WAIT-
IT HAS TO CONTINUE
INCESSANTLY

As Martin Luther King Jr rightly said,”the ultimate
measure of a man is not where he stands in the
moments of comfort and convenience, but where he
stands in times of challenge and controversy.”

The same goes true for all those associated with the
field of education in these trying times. The teaching
fraternity has always been looked up to in times of
crisis and need.the teachers and the educators have
always come to the rescue of the world and its people
in grave and distressing times.

The new pattern of education today varies vastly from that of the earlier times. The
definition of education has completely changed and has forged in an era of expeditiously
changing scenario. The teacher and the taught are now in a tandem ready to
learn,relearn and unlearn.

The theories of the past are swiftly changing leading to a massive modification of the
policies of education. This pandemic has taught all of us to be more conscious of our
efforts and our dealing with each other. With the teachers learning new methods of
teaching and expressing themselves, the student community too is undergoing an
immense alteration.

The physical school has now been converted into a virtual school and the teacher
and the taught are meeting each other on an online platform. There are always two
sides of a coin- so if you thought that these online classes were a fun, there were others
who thought that these were a means to create a nuisance and mayhem.the entire
system of teaching and learning would be beneficial if the students brought in more self
restraint and discipline in themselves - something without which actual education is
not possible. The major pillars of the education system today are the teacher, the taught
and the parents. Online classes for the students that are being conducted calls for a
little more restraint and control on the part of all these three components. The students
and the parents have to understand this new normal and a drastic change that the
education system has undergone in this pandemic. It's imperative that these elements
have to maintain a mutual respect and patience as this system is not at all easy to
follow and sustain. It takes a lot of courage to develop an understanding and above all
change the age old patterns of the existing educational system. Thus ,we can also say
that this untoward situation throughout the world has taught each one of us a hard
lesson- it has taught us peaceful co-existence and universal brotherhood.

IT'S OKAY TO BE NOT OKAY

"Not until we are lost that we begin to understand ourselves.”

Have you been anxious, stressed, disoriented, confused and
depressed lately. The day’s have been feeling too long and
monotonous and you don’t have the strength to go through it.
The world seemed gloomy and you just want to curl in your bed
and deep dive in your thoughts and want no one to disturb you.
You are having extreme mood swings and clearly you don’t have
an explanation for it. There have been burst of emotions during
different times of day and you feel that something is wrong with
you but you are not able to put a finger on it exactly. If you have
been experiencing this all, then let me tell you we both are
sailing in the same boat and it’s pretty normal. We humans have
a tendency to consistently try to make ourselves or others “feel
better.” Which leads us to believe that whatever is happening is
just in our head and it’s better to avoid the feelings rather than
face it.

Life life doesn’t always go as planned, does it. Occasionally it throws a curveball just to test our
patience that in turn creates anxiety, panic and stress. The current pandemic has definitely done
that it has pulled the carpet from under our feet, the carpet we had become so comfortable with.
The uncertainty that dawns upon us now is taking a toll on our mental health. All of us our trying to
adapt to this new normal so to say. But are we really adapting to it.

‘ Are we accepting whatever is going on around. Are we acknowledging that these are difficult and
unprecedented times and it’s okay if sometimes we lose control. Are we actually comprehending the
changes that are happening is not only in the environment or the physical world? But it is us who
are being affected the most.

How often do we respond to the question “How are you?” with a simple, “I’m fine,” or even, “Not
great but I know this is just for a time being—so I’m fine.” But are you really?

This constant need to show the world that you are fine and nothing is wrong with you or rather
just presuming that no one will understand ‘how many times have we just shut ourselves, dug a
deep hole of emotional despair and have crawled deeper into it with no intention of coming out of it
as we have forced ourselves to believe that it’s better this way rather than being stigmatized by the
people around us.

We must start to shed the shame that surrounds not being okay. We must let go of the notion
that if we are feeling pain of any kind, we are weak or doing something wrong. We need to accept,
introspect and allow ourselves to feel then only we will be able to heal completely.

You are not alone in this dysfunctional way of thinking and feeling rather most of us go through
it from time to time. It’s how most of us have been raised, conditioned, and told is "normal." Normal
is fine, but healthy is a different story.

It is okay to shout. It is okay to cry. It is okay to feel pain. It is okay to feel scared. It is okay to feel
uncertain. It is okay to feel grief. It is okay to feel lonely. And It is definitely okay to not be okay.

Yes, it will pass. Yes, it is impermanent. Yes, it is just a phase of your life and it will get over soon.

But still it is required you to honor your emotional experience by being present for it, not by

distracting yourself or avoiding it with every fiber of your being. Just for today, show up for

whatever you're feeling and remember you are not alone in this. TULIKA CHATTERJEE

ONLINE CLASSES: STRIVING FOR PROGRESS
AND CREATING OPPORTUNITIES

The only way to make sense out of
change is to plunge into it, move with it
and focus all of your energy, not on
fighting the old, but on building the new –
How seamless the idea appears to be!
True, it is the need of the hour but is it
that easy?

The Pandemic which seems to be eternal needs no introduction and it goes without
saying that it has sabotaged the so called normal. We are social beings and who knew
one day our socially developed sense of co-existence will be marred and ruptured.

In spite of the circumstances, our survival instinct is boundless. We believe in
“adopt, adapt and adept.” Education system is the microcosm for the macrocosm.
Providing education and imparting knowledge is a perpetual process. Schools across
nations have taken the onus on their shoulders for pursuing the transformation
positively which the entire world is going through. This transition, from brick-mortar
form to the virtual technological world, which the classrooms have undergone is truly
praiseworthy and is a sign of healthy growth.

Online classes, especially in Senior Section of our branch, are all about staying
connected with our students and being an everlasting catalyst in the process of their
growth. It is hard for the teachers but they have left no stone unturned in making this
process of e-learning free from all difficulties and make it swift as if, it is just a sheer
conversation between people, the real people and not robots. It has been extremely
challenging for teachers as well as students to forget the traditional, preconceived and
prepossessed tools of the learning process and be the tabula rasa for this unexpected
change. Only catering to positive side of the situation, its easy to say that online classes
are a boon as they are creating opportunities for everyone to think beyond the usual,
learn new techniques, enhance our knowledge, broaden our horizons and elevate the
standards of teaching- learning process. This is the new norm and we are happily
coordinating because we are not afraid of being a beginner. Progress without
preparation is futile and online classes are the parameter of progress in these testing
times.

The Brave New School: Learning on a Screen

To make the new normal of virtual-learning work, various
schools have laid down rules and etiquette from being
punctual and dressing neat to maintaining silence and order
in the classrooms at home. Apps like Zoom have upgraded
themselves to fit the current scenario and function through
this time. All in all, the world has started to conform to the
new normal. Though the children from economically-
challenged backgrounds found themselves without any
means to attend online classes, their number estimated to be
at least 16 hundred thousand, the fact remains that online
education is the future.

THE NEW NORMAL

Do you remember the time when people bought accessories

There was a time when we used to go to schools and offices,

PHOTOGRAPHY : POETRY WITH LIGHT

"Photography is an art of observation. It has little to do with
the things you see and everything to do with the way you see
them"~Elliott Erwitt

According to me photography is about making sense of the
world. Photography is all about finding appreciation in small
things in life. Photography is about walking slower, looking at
things, and finding beauty in the ordinary and mundane.
Photographs where time has been taken to get the correct
lighting, whereby possibly hours have been spent getting the
set upright,a relationship with the subject has been
established and is evident in the final result-these images are
aTrht.ere is a skill involved in taking images that speak to the viewer and provoke a reaction in them that's no
different to the reaction evoked by art. Photographs are just images-just like paintings, sculptures,or
anything that exists in the world.

Photography is ethereal- there are images that hit our eyes, and our brains process meaning. Images affect

us emotionally, it forces us to see the world differently. Since its invention, photography has affected how

the world views and consumes history,as well as everyday life. A photograph is capable of not only

capturing a brief moment in time but also can represent an entire social movement or be a catalyst for

change.

THE IMPACT OF KOREAN WAVE ON MY LIFE XII-C

"“Does anyone know anything about South Korea?” Serotonin
rushes through my blood; I feel my hand shoot up almost
involuntarily. This is my forte. History class had never been
more interesting.

The Naisha of January, 2019 and the Naisha of today are two
very different people. Initially, like a lot of people, I too was
biased against Korean music and dramas. But things changed
when after a huge fight with my best friend regarding this, I
finally decided to give K-pop a try. As the winter of ’19 melted
away, one listen to “Spring Day” brought spring into my life
and thawed the prejudice in my heart.

At first it was BTS (obviously) that sucked me into the Korean wave. Days that didn’t seem to end without self-
loathing, now hurt a little less. The comforting lyrics of ‘Epiphany’, ‘2!3!’ and ‘Magic shop’ healed the wounds
that bled ever so frequently. The nights when I tossed and turned sleeplessly, fighting my demons, were now
spent binge-watching ‘RUN! BTS’, laughing till my stomach ached. BTS’s message of “LOVE YOURSELF” and
“SPEAK YOURSELF” resonated so strongly with me that before I knew it, somewhere in the process of loving 7
extremely talented boys, I had started falling in love with myself. Soon, I made many like-minded friends,
which is a huge feat for an introverted, socially awkward person like me. The burden of feeling like a misfit
finally shed as I found acceptance in the BTS fanbase, the ARMY.

I taught myself Hangeul (Korean script). I am still learning Korean, striving for fluency in the language.
Exposure to the Korean wave has opened up to me different perspectives, lifestyles, and cuisines- broadened
my horizons. The success stories and hard work of  K-pop idols inspire me to improve myself.

Society’s tag of ‘obsession’ won’t change the fact that the Korean wave has impacted not just me, but millions
of people positively. ‘Parasite’ director, Bong Joonho rightly said in his Oscar acceptance speech, “When you
cross that one-inch high barrier of subtitles, you will discover many amazing things.” The Korean wave is one
exciting ride, and I don’t plan on getting off anytime soon.

LIFE OF A SCIENCE STUDENT IX-A

Life of a science student is full of care, "LAND OF LAMP
He meets only books and books everywhere
I see here,The land of eyesome ,
He has no time to stand and stare, Covered once with forest,
Gases revolve in his mind everywhere,
There is no place for leisure in his life, Which is Home of hundreds of life
The chirping of birds he has never heard, That one could never leave,

He has become too busy a man of experiments. Which reflects the solasta moon,

"Freedom in the Mind, Faith in our Words, Pride in our Souls"

THE CHOICE IS YOURS – SAVE IT OR WASTE IT

Plans to protect air and water, wilderness
and wildlife are in fact plans to protect man.”
says Stewart Udall.

The earth is called the ‘blue planet’ and it is
the only one which sustains life but given
the rate of anthropogenic exploitation, how
long can we get on with our selfish attitude
towards the environment?

The kind of damage that has been inflicted is
palpable and the need has been felt to save
environment sooner rather than later. Until
and unless we know how to save
environment and take remedial measure,
our future is in grave hands

. “Save Environment” is a mantra that has developed to represent several acts
aimed at preserving the sanctity of our environment. The role of schools and the
school going children in this “Save Environment “drive is the most crucial one, I
feel.

City Montessori School, Gomti Nagar Extension has never failed to take up its
responsibility in training the leaders of tomorrow for making our ’Mother Earth’ a
better to live in. From taking up plantation drive to reminding students to turn off
the lights and fans when they leave the classroom, this school does it all. The Solar
Panels installed at the rooftop add to the grace of the school. The students also get
involved in these initiatives with zeal and fervor. They have been taking part in
each and every activity which adds to the betterment of the environment. These
children have also worked in their localities and homes for the cause of the
environment.

While staying back at their homes for months during the lockdown owing to the
COVID-19 Pandemic, they have worked for the environment under the guidance of
their teachers and the Environment Club. A bird nest out of plastic bottle, an art
piece out of newspaper mash to feed stray animals, planting saplings in a
newspaper cover instead of a plastic cover, they have made every possible effort to
safeguard the environment.

ALL THAT MATTERS MOST

"Saving from plastic by plastic."

Nature sounds so aesthetic , doesn’t it ? But not many days are left when we
see our seas weary of suffocation from plastics , our soil torn apart from plastics ,
our environment completely devoid of trees because of plastics. We already are
fools to consider that Earth is a self healing machine and that we can use it to its
brim. A very common statement that we often hear is “Let it be” rather we don’t
hear , we see people completely ignoring it inside out. Someone has to start and we
on an odd day of this pandemic keeping in mind the blues came up with the idea of
PLASTIC BOTTLE REVOLUTION.The main aim behind this initiative is to utilize
more and more plastic waste as plastic is a non-biodegradable substance. We took
this initiative because of the realizations which dawned on us during this
lockdown.

We realized that nature have been taking care of us since we were born and it
has provided us with everything which we need for our survival. Nature not just
fulfill our physical needs but also gives us mental peace and hope in difficult
times. So we being close to nature have started this little movement which would
bring about a huge change. We are highly indebted to nature. We can’t pay it back
ever but our little efforts would definitely add on to its charm. We took it to
Instagram to start a page called plastic.bottle.revolution.pbr where we connect
lives through plastic bottles . We aim at spreading this initiative just like Wildfire.
We already have some volunteers who actively took part in this movement. In our
initiative the volunteer first plants a sapling in a plastic bottle and then tag five
other people to do so and take surety of them and then these five people inspire 5
other people and the chain starts working. Our long term goal is to have plastic
bottle gardens in every schools and colleges of every city and every state and we
hope that someday we will be able to achieve our goal.
