And my God will meet all your needs according to the
riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4 : 19
Happy New Year !
I came across these New Year resolutions made by people
fed up with traditional New Year’s resolutions.
1.I will not waste my money on a gym membership
2.I will not act my age
3.I resolve to not break any resolutions – by not making any.
4.I resolve not to complain about the weather !
Perhaps a good thing to do is to simply enjoy is today
wherever we are. I think January is a great month for sitting
in the warm and enjoying poetry – short, challenging, thought
provoking, entertaining and evocative poetry. I recently came across this poem which
really set me thinking :
Just One Request -- Author Unknown
Dear Master for this coming year
Just one request I bring:
I do not pray for happiness,
Or any earthly thing—
I do not ask to understand
The way you lead me on,
But this I ask: Teach me to do
The thing that pleases You.
I want to know Your guiding voice,
To walk with You each day.
Dear Master make me swift to hear
And ready to obey.
And thus the year I now begin
A happy year will be—
If I am seeking just to do
The thing that pleases You.
It reminds me of the line in the Lord’s Prayer – “Thy will be done on earth as it is
in heaven.”
So often we think of the New Year in terms of personal resolutions, hopes and
goals. Yet how much might we achieve by seeking to do what brings good to others –
and to focus on serving God through our service to others.
May we each seek to do God’s will for us and see the benefits that brings to all.
May 2023 be a good year for you - full of wellbeing in body, mind and spirit.
With thoughts and prayers
Clive Sedgewick
