Proctoring Online Assessments

(Teacher)
While students are taking online assessments, the teacher can monitor the progress and help when issues arise. To do
so:

1) On the MySchoolnet page, select the correct section and then go to the Upcoming Test tab.
2) To the right of the assessment’s name is the online passcode. You will need to give this to students prior to them

logging in to take the test. It is not case sensitive.
a. Do not print the passcode and give it to
students
b. Remove the passcode from the
board/projected document once the
students have logged into the
assessment. Do not leave it on the board
as other students may have that same
passcode and should not login to the
assessment yet.

3) To the left of the assessment’s name, click on the small blue icon. This will open the Proctor Dashboard.
a. The Proctor Dashboard is where you will monitor students as they take their online assessment.
i. Blue indicates answered questions and grey indicates unanswered questions.
b. This is a quick look at how students are progressing through an online assessment.
c. The computer icon means they are still in progress and/or have not submitted their test.
d. If they have no icon next to their name but they have a score, that indicates that they have submitted
the test.
e. On the right, you can watch their progress and when they have submitted, their score will appear.

4) Before leaving the computer lab, ensure that you have no ‘In Progress’ tests by looking at the top of the Proctor
Dashboard.
a. All students should be showing a
blank next to their name under
‘Device ID.’ This indicates that all
students have submitted their
test.
b. If any student still has a
computer icon, please have
him/her log back in and submit
the test. Those that are not submitted will not have scores associated with them.

MySchoolnet for Teachers

MySchoolnet is your homepage within the Schoolnet application. To get back to the
MySchoolnet page click the red schoolhouse icon at the top left of any page. You may have
to scroll on the left side to see it.

You can see real-time scores for any of your tests by using the ‘My Classroom’ and ‘Recent Assessments’ sections found
on your MySchoolnet page.

1. In ‘My Classroom,’ choose a section.

2. In ‘Recent Assessments,’ click the ‘District & Local Tests’ tab.
Here you’ll see assessments that have been administered under your particular subject area.

For some subject areas you will see tests that fall into your particular subject from different classes. For
example, those who teach within Fine and Performing Arts will see tests from Band, Visual Arts, General
Music, etc. Be sure you are looking at tests for your class so that you see correct data.

3. Select a test from the dropdown to see real-time results for that test.
Here you will see all test data within your subject area
for students enrolled in the class chosen in the ‘My
Classroom’ dropdown (step 1).

For some subject areas, you will see tests that you did
not administer in this section. The tests are listed here
because they fall under your specific subject area and
you are able to see all test results for students that
you teach.

4. For the section and test you’ve selected, you can now view some additional reports. Simply click the report
name from the ‘Reports’ menu.

Scheduling a Common and My Classroom Assessment

1) Locate your test in Schoolnet going to ‘Assessment Admin,’ then ‘Find a Test.’ Enter either the
name of the test or the Test ID. Once you have located and opened the test, click ‘Schedule.’

2) Enter the following dates:
a. Start Date – When students can begin to take the test
b. End Date – The last day students access the test online (students can
still test on paper after this date.)

be scored after this date)

3) Be sure the following boxes are checked…
a. Prevent the students…
b. Enforce Test Time
i. Choose the times and days you would like
students to be able to take the test online.
c. Allow students to pause…
d. Allow only assigned…
e. Optional – You can scramble the questions and the
answer choices. This only applies to tests taken
online. Please note – if a test has Text to Speech, do
not choose ‘Scramble Answer Choices.’ You can,
however, choose ‘Scramble Question Order.’

4) Scroll down to assign the test to students. You have two
options:
a. Accept Quick Assignment – NOT RECOMMENDED
b. Edit Assignment – Recommended

5) For My Classroom Assessments, when you click on ‘Edit
Assignment, you will be presented with a list of all of the
sections you currently teach. When choosing sections:
a. Check only the courses and semesters to which the
test applies.
i. Only choose S1 courses or S2, depending on
which is the current semester.
ii. Make sure you only assign it to the
appropriate content areas. For example, only
assign a math test to math sections.

6) When you are finished selecting sections, click
‘Save.’ Verify that it is assigned to the correct
number of sections at your school, and then
click ‘Save’ again.

7) On the test detail screen, the test should show “In Progress” if
it has been scheduled. Students may now take the test online
or, you can print paper copies and administer either through
Schoolnet or GradeCam (overnight).

8) If you are an Admin/LSTC/Teacher Leader scheduling a Common
Assessment, when you click on ‘Edit Assignment, you will be presented
with a list of all of the sections that are currently available in your school.
When choosing sections:
a. Check only the courses and semesters to which the test applies.
i. Only choose S1 courses or S2, depending on which is the
current semester.
ii. Make sure you only assign it to the appropriate sections.
For example, only assign an accelerated math test to
accelerated math sections. Also, be sure not to assign it to
connections or enrichment sections.
iii. When necessary, be sure to include regular ed, gifted,
honors, ESOL, sheltered (S), co-taught (.9), and resource
(.8).
NOTE: When choosing sections, be sure to click “Assign
by Course” to bring up a list of courses in your school.

9) Scroll to the top and click ‘Add Selected.’ The courses selected will then
move to the right. Verify that they all end in the
same number, depending on the semester (1 for 1st
and 2 for 2nd).

10) To finish scheduling:
a. Scroll to the bottom and click ‘Done, View Summary.’
b. Verify that the scheduling is correct.
c. Click ‘Done.”
d. Click ‘Save and Publish.’ This step will publish the test in
TestNav so that it be administered online.

11) After the test has been saved and published, it will return to the Test Details page. A message will appear that
the test is currently being published.

a. Once the test is published, you will receive another
message informing you that it has been successfully
published.

NOTE: If you make any changes to a test that is published in TestNav, you will need to repeat step 11 before
students can take the test online. You should not make any changes while students are taking the test.
Before school or after school would be the best time.

Using Secure Tester with Students

The Secure Test browser, when used to take assessments in Schoolnet, locks down the students’ computers so
that they cannot access any other application or tools during the test.

1) To launch the application:
a. If you are using a Windows machine (laptop, desktop, student laptop), please
have your students locate the Secure Tester icon and
double click it. If you do not see the icon, please
contact your TC.
b. If you are using Chromebooks, students should power
on the device, but should not log in using their Google
credentials. On the bottom left of the screen, click on
‘Apps,’ then ‘Schoolnet Secure Tester.’

i. On Chromebooks only, once the app launches, students will see this
screen.

2) On both Chromebooks and Windows machines, the screen will then ask
students for their user name and password. This screen looks exactly like they
are logging into the Portal, and they should use their student ID and Portal
password.

3) Students should then enter the Online Passcode for the test, provided by you.
a. Then click ‘Go.’
b. Confirm the test name is correct. On this screen, students should not
change the class.
c. Click ‘Start Your Test.’
d. On the next screen, students should click ‘Start
Test Now.’

Note: See the ‘Administering a Test in TestNav’ in the TAARC for further instructions on administering a test
online. TestNav and Secure Tester look and function exactly the same once the students are logged in and
taking an assessment.

Secure Tester Tips and Tricks

1) If Secure Tester is launched accidentally:
a. On a Windows device, click on the ‘Parents’ button at the top of
the screen. This will allow you to close it.
b. On a Chromebook, simply restart the device.

2) Controlling the volume:
a. On a Chromebook, students can use the volume keys on the
keyboard.

b. On a laptop, students can use the Fn + Vol Up/Down buttons, which are
located at the top of the keyboard. Location of keys and images on keys may
vary by laptop.

c. On a desktop, students should adjust the volume BEFORE they
start the test using the volume control in the system tray.
i. If a student did not adjust the
volume before, please have
him/her pause the test by
clicking “Pause” in the upper
right corner, then clicking “Exit
Test.” They can then use the volume control in the system tray.
ii. After they have adjusted the volume, they will need launch Secure Tester again and
re-enter the online passcode to resume testing.

d. Within TestNav/Secure Tester, if the students have the read-aloud
accommodation, they can click on the gear icon on the controls and adjust
the volume. However, this will not work if the volume on the computer is
turned all the way down or is too soft.

3) When students click ‘Submit,’ Secure Tester closes.
a. On a Windows device, it takes them back to the desktop.
b. On a Chromebook, it will return the main login screen. The next student can then click on
the App button and select Secure Tester, as in step 1.
