You gain RESISTANCE to alldamage, and from attacks that originatebeyond 3; however, you become SLOWED anddeal half damage, and to charactersbeyond 3.HyperDense armor can be deactivated as a quickaction.IPS-N HyperDense Armor is built for space– forged with no regard for anyconstraints users might face within agravity well. As such, many pilotsprotected by HyperDense products areshocked to experience the differencebetween piloting their mech down a welland taking it for a ride in the nullgravity of space.Throughbolt Rounds2 SP, Unique, ModChoose one CQB, CANNON, or RIFLE: when youattack with it, you may fire a throughbolt roundinstead of attacking normally. Draw a 3 pathfrom you, passing through terrain or otherobstacles – any characters or objects in the pathtake 2AP as the projectile punches throughthem and out the other side. RANGE, cover, and lineof sight for the attack are then measured from theend of this path, continuing in the same direction.Throughbolt rounds are a proprietary IPSN anti-armor invention. When fired, therounds ignite and project a superheatedcone of plasma before them, creating aneffect like a miniature lance that easilypenetrates multiple targets – eventhrough hard surfaces.IPS-NORTHSTAR

SECTION 4 // Compendium // Mech CatalogueIPS-NVLADController/StrikerThe Vlad is the second iteration of IPS-N’s legacy Yi-Sun-Shin model, firstmade famous by Albatross pilots in the Celestine campaign during the fallof the Second Committee. With the wealth and quality of data generated bythe Albatross in that conflict, IPS-N produced the Vlad, a power plant- andframe-upgraded spiritual successor to the Yi-Sun-Shin and deserving of anew line designation. The Vlad, as the Sun did before it, shares much of its design philosophyand ancestry with IPS-N’s early asteroid-mining frames. Many of itsstandard armaments take inspiration from the early efforts of resourcefulminers to convert tools into improvised anti-piracy weapons; likewise, itsframe emphasizes redundancy, toughness, and component universality, allowing it to operate with outstanding self-sufficiency for long and/ordangerous deployments.Heavily armored, the Vlad suits a frontline role where it can absorb firefrom dangerous targets while lining up the perfect shot.[152]CORE STATSTRAITSMOUNTSCORE SYSTEMSHRIKE ARMORPrimarily a defensive modification, Shrikearmor bristles with hardened chromiumtungsten spikes – a nod to the Vlad’shistorical namesake. Shrike tips arestrategically placed in areas with a highlikelihood of kinetic encounters:gauntlets, manipulator joints, shoulderplating, and so on. [154] SECTION 4 // Compendium // Mech CatalogueLICENSE I: IMPACT LANCE,WEBJAW SNARELICENSE II: VLAD FRAME,CALTROP LAUNCHER, IMPALER NAILGUNWebjaw Snare1 SP, Quick Action, Limited 2, UniqueWebjaw snare (SIZE 1, 10 HP, EVASION 5, Tags:DEPLOYABLE)Expend a charge to deploy a Webjaw snare to afree, adjacent space, where it arms at the end ofyour turn. It does not obstruct movement, andcan’t be attacked until it is triggered. The snare is triggered when any character movesover it. They must succeed on a HULL save or take1d6AP and become IMMOBILIZED. This effectlasts until the snare is destroyed.Suitable for use in any theater, the IPS-NWebjaw Explosively Accelerated Filamentsystem is a deployable perimeter defensesolution designed to arrest hostilemovement in predetermined kill-corridors.The Webjaw consists of a networked clusterof single-use anchors, each consisting of abarb, a coil of arachnosynth NoCutfilament, and an explosive charge. When triggered remotely, or by a series ofprogrammable physical, electronic, orchemical triggers, the anchors fire, embedding barbs deep inside targets, whethersoft or hard. The barbs, secured to anchorpoints by NoCut filament, clog and restrictmovement, fouling gears, wheels, rotors, engines, and all methods of locomotion.Caltrop Launcher1 SP, Unique, Quick ActionThis system blankets a free 1 area within 5with explosive caltrops. The affected areabecomes difficult terrain for the rest of the scene, and mechs take 1d3AP when they enter theaffected area for the first time in a round or endtheir turn within it.Wicked anti-organic, anti-vehiclesystems for proximity denial, caltroplaunchers fire either great clouds orlong swathes of shimmering metal over anarea. IPS-N’s HX-CAL caltrop systemincludes small, shaped explosives in themix of hardened pyramids.Impaler NailgunMain CQB, 1(Self)[5][3][1d6+1]On Hit: Targets must succeed on a HULL save orbecome IMMOBILIZED until the end of their next turn. The Impaler’s noncombustible, sabotjacketed two-stage macroflechettes canpierce even the heaviest armor. Oncecatapulted from its launcher, the sabotdisengages on approach to its target andtriggers a second stage – internalpropulsion drives the macroflechetteforward with incredible velocity. Overpenetration is certain against softtargets; IPS-N advises firing this weapononly when the area behind the target isclear of allies or noncombatants.Impact LanceMain Melee[3][1d6]On Attack: You also attack all characters in a LINEbetween you and your target. You take 1 for eachtarget past the first. The impact lance is a mil-spec variant of acommon mining tool: the single-use chemicalsurvey laser. IPS-N’s military variantmounts a series of impact lances on amech’s brachial or thoracic carriages, leaving its manipulators free to fieldother weapons and systems. It can be wireddirectly into a chassis’ core, or chargedwith disposable chemical batteries. The lance array fires for a microsecond, burning through its stored charge to producean intense burst of light that stabs out ina tight, pulsed beam capable of searingthrough meters of hardened bulkhead.

[155] SECTION 4 // Compendium // Mech CatalogueLICENSE III:COMBAT DRILL, CHARGED STAKECharged Stake2 SP, Full ActionThis system fires a charged stake at a characteradjacent to you. Your target must succeed on aHULL save or be impaled by the stake, taking1d6AP and becoming IMMOBILIZED whileimpaled. At the end of each of their turns, animpaled character takes 1d6AP. An impaledcharacter can successfully repeat this save as afull action to remove the stake and freethemselves, which is the only way to end theimmobilization. You can only affect one character with the stake ata time.Descended from blast-mining tools, thisenormous, improvised system is housed andprepped to fire in a specially primedchamber. It first penetrates andimmobilizes armored targets, then sends apowerful, vaporizing charge intovulnerable internal systems.Combat DrillSuperheavy Melee, AP, Overkill[1][3d6+ 1d6]When attacking a character that is PRONE,IMMOBILIZED, or STUNNED, this weapon’s OVERKILL tagdoes an extra +1d6 bonus damage each time itactivates. This can activate indefinitely if the newbonus die result is a 1, triggering OVERKILL again. The combat drill is a brutal close-combatweapon, powered by a massive externalcatalyst pack. The bit is tipped withmicroplasmatic projectors designed topre-treat the target and ensure drillpenetration.IPS-NORTHSTAR

[158] SECTION 4 // Compendium // Mech CatalogueSmith-Shimano Corpro (SSC) is the second-oldestcorporation in the galaxy, preceded only by GMS.Founded by Cartwright Smith and Shimano Hidey‐oshi, SSC’s emphasis on private stellar andinterstellar travel, the fantastic wealth of its founders, and favorable contracts within Union’s FirstCommittee, Smith-Shimano quickly became an earlyleader in the race to develop sublight, downwell, andEVA vehicles. SSC grew throughout Union’s FirstExpansion Period, managing the majority of all privateand corporate contracts’ design, outfitting, andclinical needs. Over time, the corporation diversifiedto specialize in bio-bespoke, long-range scout suits –personalized hard suits, for those with the manna toafford them. The necessities of deep-space exploration requirehumans to spend long periods in hostile environ‐ments; pre-Deimos Event, SSC sought to addressthis challenge by breaking down the barriers betweenhuman and machine, creating a symbiotic relationshipbetween hardsuit and wearer. Following the DeimosEvent, however, SSC wound down most of its human/machine integration research in accordance with theFirst Contact Accords, choosing instead to focus onperfecting the first machine: the human body itself.Smith-Shimano FRAMES reflect the corpro-state’spedigree and its agile, adaptable business model. They are built not to take hits – though they’re resilientenough – but to avoid them entirely. SSC designsemphasize mobility and sleek profiles, precisely tunedto land not the hardest hit, but the most accurate.Economy, precision, and singularity is the name of thegame for this manufacturer: why fire a thousandrounds when one can be just as effective? The mechs developed by SSC are known for theirlicense exclusivity, appealing silhouette, and exactingdesign. Their LUX-Iconic line of chassis are coveted,single-designer models, each unique to the pilot withthe requisite licenses and access to afford them; assuch, unlike other manufacturers, SSC frames tend tobe longer-lasting in service, with more emphasis onretrofitting and repair than recycling and reproduction.SSC CORE BONUSESSSC bonuses increase your mech’s speed, evasion, and ranged combat efficacy. You must have at least three license levels in SSClicenses to take a bonus from this list, and another threelevels for each additional bonus. For example, with sixranks in SSC licenses, you can have up to two bonuses.ALL-THEATER MOVEMENT SUITEA popular modification, ATMS adds powerful pulse jetsthat dramatically improve mech mobility in all theaters. You may choose to count any and all of yourmovement as flying; however, you take 1 at theend of each of your turns in which you fly this way.FULL SUBJECTIVITY SYNCBy creating a stable, two-way ontologic bridge, SSC hasremoved the need for pilots to rely on physical controlsalone to pilot their mech. Using a full subjectivity sync, pilots perceive their mech as their own body and control itvia neural impulse; somatosensory feedback is translatedto the pilot as well, so caution is advised despite nocicep‐tion-dampening defaults built-in to the system. You gain +2 EVASION.GHOSTWEAVEAn upscaled version of the same systems found in SSC’sMythimna Panoply, Ghostweave is a proprietary appliquéused to enhance mech camouflage in all environments.During your turn, you are INVISIBLE. If you take noactions on your turn other than your standard move,HIDE, and BOOST, you remain INVISIBLE until the start ofyour next turn. You immediately cease to be INVISIBLEwhen you take a reaction.INTEGRATED NERVEWEAVEIntegrated nerveweave combines several technologiesto grant total battlefield alacrity, assuring pilots arenever left behind. You may move an additional 2 spaces when you BOOST.KAI BIOPLATINGAdapted from fauna local to SSC’s home system, KaiBioplating adds a lamellar layer of insulated, anchored, andchitinous plating over key brush-points on a mech. Essentiallya cheaper, more feasible alternative to living metal, bioplatingallows for faster movement through hard-to-navigate terrain. You gain +1 on all AGILITY checks and saves; addi‐tionally, you climb and swim at normal speed, ignoredifficult terrain, and when making a standard move, can jump horizontally up to your full SPEED andupwards up to half your SPEED (in any combination).NEUROLINK TARGETINGTo further reduce the information gap between pilot andmachine and complement its full subjectivity sync tech‐nology, SSC developed neurolinking, a stable, non-invasive,and limited-transfer ontologic bridge. Neurolink targeting isa simple enhancement that helps pilots feel – as opposedto thinking – when engaged in ranged combat, allowing fora more natural expression of pilot ability.Your ranged weapons gain +3 RANGE.SMITH-SHIMANO CORPROYou only need one.

SECTION 4 // Compendium // Mech CatalogueSSCBLACK WITCHController/SupportThe Black Witch is the flagship model of SSC’s LUX-Iconic line of frames, onpaper meant to compete with Harrison Armory’s dominance in the field ofcutting-edge gravity and electromagnetic manipulation. Utilizing the newesttechnologies developed by SSC’s Exotic Materials Group, the Black Witch is afearsome area-control platform, often fielded in support of heavier mechsengaged in direct combat. With a slim profile and strong defensive systems, the Black Witch isespecially popular among the wealthier houses of the Karrakin TradeBaronies, who often place multiple orders to outfit their personal guards andhouse company officers. Next to internally produced Baronic frames, the BlackWitch (alongside other SSC LUX-Iconic models) is the most popular SSCchassis throughout noble Karrakin space.[160]CORE STATSTRAITSMOUNTSCORE SYSTEMMAGNETIC FIELD PROJECTORMagnetic field generators are a portable andfield-deployable variation on typicalmagnetic defense technologies. Whenactivated, they create a magnetic bubblethat traps all incoming ferrous projectiles. The strength of the field is so great thatit can even draw mechs to its center. Whenthe field is dispersed or its solid-statebattery burns out – a feature, not a flaw –the field undergoes a sudden catastrophicimplosion, drawing all captured projectilesto a point at the center of the bubble.MAIN/AUXMAG PARRY1/round, as a reaction, you may attempt to parryan attack that would deal to you or an adjacentallied character. [162] SECTION 4 // Compendium // Mech CatalogueLICENSE 1:FERROUS LASH, MAGNETIC CANNONLICENSE II: BLACK WITCH FRAME,ICEOUT DRONE, PERIMETER COMMAND PLATEMagnetic CannonMain Cannon[8][1d3+1]On Hit: All characters within the affected areamust succeed on a HULL save or be pulled 1d3+1spaces toward you, or as close as possible.SSC’s magnetic cannon is a first from theExotic Materials Group: an aperturefocused electromagnetic projection beamthat uses intense pulses of magneticenergy to disrupt and damage hardware.Targets caught in the beam of a magneticcannon suffer additional damage to theirsoftware as massive systemic stress isinflicted on sensitive components.Ferrous Lash2 SP, Quick ActionChoose a character within 8 and line of sight. Ifthey are allied, you may pull them 5 spaces in anydirection; if they are hostile, they must succeed onan AGILITY save or be pulled 5 spaces in a directionof your choice. This movement ignoresengagement and doesn’t provoke reactions. If a hostile target moved by this system collides withan obstruction or another mech, they stop movingand are knocked PRONE.Initially developed as a nonlethal crowdsuppression device, the Ferrous Lash is afar more complex and dangerous device inthe hands of the right pilot. The Lashconsists of a series of integratedlaunchers that detonate payloads of fastcongealing ferrofluids that restraintheir targets. Tuned to the correctfrequency, these proprietary ferrofluidblends form into rudimentary ambulatorysegments, pulling their hosts backtowards the one wielding the Lash.ICEOUT Drone2 SP, Limited 2, Quick Action, UniqueDrone (SIZE 1/2, 5 HP, 10 EVASION, 10 E-DEFENSE,Tags: DRONE).Expend a charge to deploy an ICEOUT drone to afree space within SENSORS and line of sight, whereit hovers in place and generates a 1 field.Characters at least partially within the affectedarea gain IMMUNITY to all tech actions, and can’tmake tech actions. Existing conditions and effectscaused by tech actions are not cleared butcharacters have IMMUNITY to them while they are inthe area, and they can be saved against normally. The ICEOUT drone can be moved to any pointwithin SENSORS as a quick action. It cannot berecalled and expires at the end of the scene.SSC’s ICEOUT drone is a response toincreasing reliance on hostile systemscans for accurate targeting. Byblanketing a mech’s systems in layers ofdigital defilade, mirroring, spoofing, andredirection, an ICEOUT drone caneffectively disappear or disincorporate itfrom hostile scans. ICEOUT drones onlymake their operator system-invisible,however; they remain visible with optics.

[163] SECTION 4 // Compendium // Mech CatalogueLICENSE III:BLACK ICE MODULE, MAGNETIC SHIELDPerimeter Command Plate2 SP, Unique, Quick ActionPCP (SIZE 2, 20 HP, EVASION 5, Tags: DEPLOYABLE)This heavy metal Perimeter Command Plate (PCP)can be flash-printed and deployed to a free 2x2space within 5. The PCP is flat, doesn’tobstruct movement, and lasts for the rest of thescene. If you create a new PCP, the old onedisintegrates. The plate activates for a character the first timethat character enters its space during a round, or ifthey end their turn there.Upon printing, choose a setting:• REPULSE: Hostile characters that move onto thePCP must succeed on a HULL save or be pushed3 spaces in the direction of your choice. If thiscauses them to collide with an obstruction, theyare knocked PRONE. Allied characters that enterthe space may immediately fly 3 spaces in anydirection as a free action.• ATTRACT: Characters that move onto the PCPmust succeed on a HULL save or becomeIMMOBILIZED. They can clear IMMOBILIZED bysuccessfully repeating the save as a quickaction; it is also cleared if the PCP is destroyed. The Exotic Materials Group developed thePerimeter Command Plate to extend thearea of the Black Witch’s zone ofcontrol. Utilizing single-pattern flashprinters, the Black Witch prints abroad, circular plate seeded withelectromagnetic projectors. Although theplates are intended to be disposable,Black Witch pilots often grow attachedto their “familiars” and request theirflash-printers create personalizedplates.Black ICE Module3 SP, UniqueTech attacks against you or adjacent alliedcharacters receive +1. Each subsequent techattack against you or an adjacent allied characterreceives an additional +1, to a maximum of+3.Your Black ICE definitions roll over – resetting to+1 – when it would increase to +4 or at theend of the scene. Allied characters lose thisbenefit when they break adjacency.Black ICE modules are defensive systemspackaged standard with the Black Witchfleets used by SSC's own internalsecurity forces. They project a bubble ofWHITECELL code that analyzes incominghostile script and structures inoculantsfor friendly systems on the fly.Magnetic Shield2 SP, Shield, Unique, Quick ActionThis system creates a 4 forcefield, 4 spaceshigh – with at least 1 space adjacent to you – that isan obstruction for mechs and characters made atleast partly of metal. It lasts for the rest of the sceneand if a new one is placed, the old one deactivates. The forcefield doesn’t block line of sight, but itprovides soft cover. Characters gain RESISTANCE to and damage while benefiting from thiscover.SSC’s magnetic shield takes the sametechnology as their proprietary magneticbuckler and applies it to a massivefield-projection system.SMITH-SHIMANO CORPRO

SECTION 4 // Compendium // Mech CatalogueSSCDEATH’S HEADArtilleryThe Death’s Head is Smith-Shimano’s answer to the need for a chassissolution to long-range, low-splash strike actions. Sacrificing raw hullstrength for peerless stability and alacrity, the Death’s Head is amaneuverable fire-support platform able to avoid incoming fire whilemaintaining a near-perfect lock on its targets. Its unique hexapedal formallows for rapid, low-profile movement in all directions. As an aggressive and line-focused chassis, the Death’s Head is one of themost popular models for Union Navy and Union Department of Justice andHuman Rights officers. It is a combat chassis through and through; as theDeath’s Head is a chassis produced under SSC’s BELLA CIAO line, there isno civilian analog.[164]CORE STATSTRAITSMOUNTSCORE SYSTEMPRECOGNITIVE TARGETINGPrecognition is the next step in human/AIinteraction. Using a neural bridge, SSC’sprecognitive targeting system allows pilotsto learn constantly and unconsciously fromdata gathered in the field, equipping themto read situations before they develop.Precognition is highly experimental and theprecise mechanisms unknown even to thedesigners, so SSC recommends limited, monitored use of this system.PERFECTED TARGETINGThe Death’s Head gains an additional +1 to allranged attack rolls.Neural ShuntActive (1CP), ProtocolFor the rest of this scene, you gain the MARKFOR DEATH action.HEAVYMOUNTMAIN/AUXSize: 1Armor: 0HULLHP: 8Repair Cap: 2AGILITYEvasion: 10Speed: 5Save Target: 10Sensors: 20SYSTEMSE-Defense: 8Tech Attack: +0SP: 6ENGINEERINGHeat Cap: 6Mark for DeathFull ActionChoose a character within 30 but further than5 to focus on; while focusing, you becomeIMMOBILIZED and can’t take reactions, but youdeal bonus damage based on weapon size(aux: 1d6, main: 2d6, heavy or larger: 3d6)on ranged critical hits against them, aslong as they aren’t in cover orwithin 5.You may only focus on one character at a time. [166] SECTION 4 // Compendium // Mech CatalogueLICENSE I: HIGH-STRESS MAG CLAMPS,TRACKING BUGLICENSE II: DEATH’S HEAD FRAME,CORE SIPHON, VULTURE DMRHigh-Stress Mag Clamps1 SP, UniqueYou treat all solid surfaces as flat ground for thepurposes of movement; you can move acrossthem normally instead of climbing, although youbegin to fall if you are knocked PRONE.A simple, reliable set of toggleable magclamps built into a mech’s locomotivesystem can vastly increase the tacticalpossibilities open to its pilot. Whenswitched on, these clamps allow a mech tocling to ferrous surfaces, which isespecially useful in low- and zerogravity environments.Core Siphon2 SP, Unique, ProtocolWhen you activate this protocol, you gain +1on your first attack roll this turn, but receive +1on all other attack rolls until the end of the turn.By shunting excess heat to offensivesystems, core siphons allow pilots tooverclock the targeting, catalytic, andprocessing capabilities of theirweapons. This comes at a cost, however –reliance on overclocking withoutsufficient cooling can damage systemsnot built to handle the influx of power.Vulture DMRMain Rifle, Accurate, Overkill, 1(Self)[15][1d6+1]The Vulture Designated Marksman Rifle (DMR)is SSC’s core battle rifle. Reliable, available in dozens of configurations andcalibers, and fed by box, drum, or belt, the Vulture is a popular armament across awide range of mechs.Tracking Bug2 SP, Quick TechMake a tech attack against a character withinSENSORS. On a hit, you know their exact location, HP,STRUCTURE, and SPEED for the duration. They can’tHIDE and you ignore their INVISIBLE status. To removethe tracking drone, they must succeed on anENGINEERING check as a quick action; otherwise itdeactivates at the end of the scene.Tracking bugs are specialized tracerrounds – essentially, drones too large tobe classified as nanites, and far toosmall to fit the Union-standardparameters of a drone. Fired fromdedicated launchers, tracking bugs guidethemselves toward their designatedtarget. Following successful penetrationof the target, they surreptitiously andcontinuously feed live data back to theirregistered user.

SECTION 4 // Compendium // Mech CatalogueSSCDUSK WINGController/SupportThe Dusk Wing originated as a legacy-inspired modification package to EVA suits, intended to equip them for hazardous environments. In the early days of deep-spaceexploration, there was a need for mechanized exoskeletons that not only amplifiedcapacity but enhanced kinetic defense. The Dusk Wing is the spiritual heir of thoseearly deep-space suits. Fast and small, it carries a complement of all-theatermaneuverability jets that allow for near-perfect flight. After the DHIYED expedition, the Exotic Materials Group isolated and translatedstrains of the entity’s realspace expiry paracode, teleologics, and kinematics foruse in electronic and systems warfare. Of the frames trialed for use with DHIYEDderived technologies, the Dusk Wing performed best. Under the increasingly militaristic reign of Union’s SecondCommittee, SSC’s corporate board pushed to develop the company’s mil-specsupply, logistics, and personal defense divisions; following the advent ofthe mechanized chassis, the budding SSC SupLogDef division wasrestructured and refocused to concentrate on chassis development. The firstiterations of the Metalmark were designed for the Second Committee’sWARRIOR NEXT program: however, before the chassis could be tested, theHercynian Crisis spiraled out of control, toppling the Second Committee. The Metalmark was retired in the wake of the Crisis and the restructuringof Union’s Central Committee, deemed too time consuming to produce as amass-market chassis. SSC reworked the frame, tapped it to lead their newBELLA CIAO line, and concentrated on small-market, exclusive securitycontracts. The Metalmark is now a valued model among security forces. [190] SECTION 4 // Compendium // Mech CatalogueHORUS is an oddity among the various pan-galacticcorpro-states, outfitters, and manufacturers. Oper‐ating in a gray legal state between harmless omninetcommunes, open-source fabrication collaboratives,black-market printers, and deeper, more esotericcollectives, HORUS is counted among the Big Fournot due to its influence on galactic politics, butbecause of its ubiquitous coverage: one can becertain that wherever there is omninet, HORUS iseither there or soon to follow. Rumors abound as tothe manufacturer’s nature – some say it’s the dreamof an unshackled NHP or a hacker collective dedic‐ated to open-source manufacturing (at its mostmundane levels); others insist that it’s the provingground for one of the corpro-states’ R&D depart‐ments, or the realspace projection of an alien entity’songoing wish. The group’s history is as mercurial as its present.Union records dating back to the First CommitteePeriod indicate contact with groups, individuals, andstate actors claiming to be (or identified as) agents ofHORUS, itself described as an individual; a terroristgroup; a philosophy church, or political party; anactivist group; and many other forms of association.Contemporary reports indicate a subtle shift toward amore cohesive organizing structure – certainly accel‐erated following the Deimos Event – that points tosome form of organizational mission and internalculture at levels far beyond the civilian and criminallevels of engagement with grayspace HORUS fronts. This more complex level of organization is reflected inHORUS’s mechs. Unlike the collective’s broad,civilian-facing projects – omnicode, hacks, data, andopen-sourcing of otherwise restricted information, services, and platforms – HORUS mechs and patterngroups are limited in the extreme, usually firstappearing as endemic manifestations of print anom‐alies in conflict zones across the galaxy. Save for raresituations (heavily documented by the Union Intelli‐gence Bureau), these outbreaks seem to take placeindependent and ignorant of all factions and actors, and have one goal: manifest, then proliferate.HORUS’s oldest frames are built according to stand‐ardized forms, as with most other mechs. Thecollective’s more recent chassis are stranger. Union’sUniversal Threat Assessment Manual (UTAM) classi‐fies them not according to models but according to“pattern groups” (or PGs). Each pattern group is a listof specifications that describe a particular combina‐tion of experimental, unregulated, and esotericparacausal weapons and technology that, when takentogether, resemble something like a distinct productline or frame. However, it is important to note: thepattern-group classification system originated withUnion analysts, not HORUS. Because there is noofficial manufacturer-entity or (known) central organ‐izing body, the “proper” designations and designintentions of most HORUS mechs are all butunknown. Thus, the UTAM pattern-group designa‐tions.HORUS “licenses” are highly coveted, and are distrib‐uted according to no discernible requirements;scholars and specialists who study HORUS generallyassume that the collective’s licenses – that is, accessto deep-level designs, specifications, and printpatterns – are available only in limited quantities, likelybecoming available after the corporeal death of theirprevious holders.HORUS mechs universally field mysterious, unregu‐lated, greyspace technologies – perfect for pilotsseeking a technological edge that few other organiza‐tions can provide. They seem to focus on crowdcontrol, individual unit management, and terriblypowerful systems.Be aware that by seeking out HORUS technology, youmay find yourself wrapped up in mysteries with noend, and dangers far beyond your deepest fears.HORUS.[

A trillion trillion light-years in all directions, andthrough it all, onlys. better to facr. ‘til later, love.]– “Lesson Six”, The Six Lessons of Kilo Nueve. You may install an additional AI in your mech. If oneenters cascade (or becomes unshackled narratively),the other prevents it from taking control of your mech. You only lose control of your mech if both AI-taggedsystems or equipment enter cascade.HORUS

SECTION 4 // Compendium // Mech CatalogueHORUSBALORStriker/DefenderAs is the case with most HORUS pattern groups, the Balor has a thousand faces. The Balor pattern group, like all HORUS PGs, doesn’t describe a singlerecognizable silhouette so much as it gestures toward a combination of schematathat share a role in combat. These schemata can be printed according to pilotspecifications and applied to a fully custom physical scaffolding. Notably, theBalor pattern group is only stable on large platforms (Schedule 2 and up) thatare able to provide the raw energy output it demands – preferably ones withmultiple redundancies, in case of catastrophic systems failure. The Balor PG was first encountered during the joint Albatross–DoJ/HR pursuit of the Maw– a Free Company turned decentralized hive-being — across Khayradin’s Blanca Desertafter the end of the Sanjak Rebellion. It was there that the joint force encountered, engaged with, and ultimately defeated the Maw and its Balors – and there that Union’sCentComm hoped the nanowash outbreak could be contained. Of course, subsequent Baloroutbreaks on Khayradin have proven this hope to be in vain, and the pattern groupcontinues to terrorize Karrakin commanders throughout Baronic space. In the field, the Balor’s neurosynced hellswarm and greywash nanites form an undulatingshroud that can pour out of its chassis at a moment’s notice, swirling in maddeningpatterns to form both eschatologic defensive and offensive systems. A Balor in itsmost active state is held together more by undulating, flame-like masses of naniteswarms than any physical structure. This has the effect of distributing kinetic andcoherent-particle energy out across and through the chassis – making attacks againsta Balor “like shooting angry water”, as one after-action report put it.[192]CORE STATSTRAITSMOUNTSCORE SYSTEMHELLSWARMIn a moment, with aught but desire, thepilot of a Balor may quick-print a cloakcomprised of countless minuscule drones: ahellswarm cloak – living shield and fluiddynamic knife, cutting and guarding, in oneshimmering wave. They become Hivemaster, andtheir will is obeyed by millions.MAINMOUNTHEAVYMOUNTSELF-PERPETUATINGWhen you rest, the Balor regains full HPautomatically and without REPAIRS.REGENERATIONAt the end of its turn, the Balor regains 1/4 of its totalHP. Damage from areas createdby multiple hive drones does not stack. The drone can be deployed to a different space orrecalled as a quick action. It looks, at first, like a roiling cloudof gray fog, churning and fizzing –smoking soda water spilled acrossconcrete. It advances with curious motion, stretching and snapping back. Once freed, the maniples begin eating away atsurrounding tissue or superstructure. They proceed until burnout or totaltarget consumption, whichever occursfirst. In flight, the maniples are able tohive-link and make slight adjustments tothe trajectory of their round, ensuringpositive impact.Coherent beam weapons transport maniplesdirectly, while conventional meleeweapons are replaced by analogs composedentirely of nanobots.

SECTION 4 // Compendium // Mech CatalogueHORUSGOBLINController/SupportThe Goblin was the first identified HORUS frame, and is likely the oldest legacy chassis priorto HORUS’s transition to pattern groups. Transmission records traced back to the Goblin’s zeromodel indicate the first chassis was leaked onto the omninet in 4900u. This year serves asHORUS’s assumed “foundation day” for most scholars and intelligence officers who study thegroup, though contradictory signatures indicate that 4900u is far too late to mark its birth. The Goblin is a small mech, not much larger than a hardsuit, that relies on its small size andexcellent maneuverability to protect its pilot. It packs an interesting recursive processingweave that facilitates electronic warfare capabilities well beyond theoretical parameters.GMS technicians are still, more than a century later, working to reverse engineer the Goblinand its processing weave. The most recent investigations suggest that it employs technologyconsistent with hieroglyphic inscriptions noted on LRA.7726235-B and corroborated by tabletstransmitted by UIB-GORGON from Metavault XOLOTL prior to the vault’s disappearance.[196]CORE STATSTRAITSMOUNTSCORE SYSTEMINSTINCT RIGOne of the first Goblin-pattern systems crackedby GMS technicians was its e-warfare invasionrig, although the rig’s advanced capabilitiesand architecture remain impenetrable. Wheninstalled, the rig manifests a subsentientintelligence – designated INSTINCT – thatassists invasion attempts against targetsystems using a mix of physical and systemicparasymbiotic systems. Invasions attemptedwhile INSTINCT is active are not perceived bythe user as code and script, but as an attackon organic matter. INSTINCT has displayed thecapacity to act independently, oftenpreempting its user, but generally in theirbest interest. Readme documentation includedin some Goblin manifestations recommend thatpilots cycle their mech cores at least once amonth to prevent spontaneous enlightenment, though most do not make note of this warning.FLEXMOUNTFRAGILEThe Goblin receives +1on HULL checks and saves.LITURGICODEThe Goblin gains +1 on tech attacks.REACTIVE CODE1/round, when the Goblin is hit by a tech attack, the Goblin may take any QUICK TECH option againstthe attacker as a reaction.Size: 1/2Armor: 0HULLHP: 6Repair Cap: 2AGILITYEvasion: 10Speed: 5Save Target: 11Sensors: 20SYSTEMSE-Defense: 12Tech Attack: +2SP: 8ENGINEERINGHeat Cap: 4SymbiosisActive (1CP), Quick ActionYour mech retracts its major systems and attachesitself to another mech, becoming more like a vesti‐gial blister than a separate entity. The host must bean allied and willing mech not already hostinganother Goblin, larger than and adjacent to you. While attached, you occupy their space, move withthem, and benefit from hard cover, but can still beattacked and targeted separately. You also takeany conditions and heat taken by your host.Your host may use your SYSTEMS, E-DEFENSE, and TECHATTACK instead of their own. Additionally, from thebeginning of the next round, you no longer take yourown turns; instead, you can take two quick actions orone full action at any point during your host’s turn. Youcan’t OVERCHARGE or move, but may still take reactionsand free actions normally. Your host’s turn counts asyour turn for the purpose of effects that refer to thestart or end of a character’s turn. This effect lasts either for the rest of the scene, until you detach as a quick action, or until you oryour host becomes STUNNED. When the effectends, you don’t take a turn until the next round.

Each unit is, in theory, governedby a spur of INSTINCT’s protomind. No newmodels have been encountered since DHIYED,and all extant versions of the Autopod areto be considered extremely dangerous asthe INSTINCT code powering their onboardprotominds is likely to have corruptedfurther since their creation.H0R_OS System Upgrade I2 SP, Unique, Quick Tech, InvadeGain the following options for INVADE:PUPPET SYSTEM. Your target moves its maximumSPEED in a direction of your choice. They can bemoved into hazardous areas and other obstacles, but are still affected by difficult terrain, obstructions, and so on. This movement isinvoluntary, but provokes reactions andENGAGEMENT as normal and doesn’t count asKNOCKBACK, pushing, or pulling.EJECT POWER CORES. Your target becomes JAMMEDuntil the end of their next turn as you temporarilydisrupt their systems, ejecting ammo magazinesand cooling rods. Characters adjacent to yourtarget take 2. This can only be used 1/scene oneach character. This system upgrade appears to addauxiliary INSTINCT systems that arecapable of autonomous operationindependent of the base INSTINCT rig, increasing the efficacy of systemicinvasion attempts. Pilots report unnervinglow-frequency humming when this tech isinstalled without the parent rig.

[199] SECTION 4 // Compendium // Mech CatalogueMetahook2 SP, Unique, Quick TechChoose an allied character within SENSORS and lineof sight. You link systems with them, lasting aslong as they are within SENSORS and line of sight. While linked, you may use their SENSORS and line ofsight for tech actions, and they may use yourSYSTEMS to make skill checks and saves; however, any time either character takes or a condition,it is also taken by the other character. You can onlylink systems with one character at a time. The metahook is a key component of theGoblin’s recursive processing weave, allowing it to generate and output massiveamounts of weaponized code. Thesebroadcasts can be “sharpened” or“softened” in response to directives froma pilot or an INSTINCT system. To “soften”code, the metahook dips into its pilot’ssubjectivity and blankets an ally in waveafter wave of empathetic shielding. Thisspreading of melded code and qualia actsas a powerful shielding agent againstsystemic attacks; however, feedback iscommon and dangerous to both parties.H0R_OS System Upgrade II2 SP, Unique, Quick TechGain the following QUICK TECH options:CONSTRUCT OTHER: IDEAL IMAGE. You create a dataconstruct in a free adjacent space – a SIZE 2 objectthat can look like almost anything and thatappears real to all systems. The construct provideshard cover, blocks line of sight, and has IMMUNITYto all damage. Characters treat it as an obstructionand so cannot voluntarily move into it; however, ifa character attempts to stand on it or isinvoluntarily moved into its area, it dissipates andis immediately destroyed. It lasts for the rest of thescene, or until destroyed by an adjacent characterwith a successful SYSTEMS skill check as a fullaction. If you create a second construct, theprevious one disappears.CONSTRUCT OTHER: FALSE IDOL. Choose a free spacewithin SENSORS and a target – either yourself or anallied character within SENSORS. You create a falseidol – an illusory decoy of your target – in thechosen space. Before attempting to take any hostileactions against your target, characters with line ofsight to the false idol must make a SYSTEMS save.On a failure, they don’t lose the action, but cannottarget the original character and believe the falseidol is real instead until the end of their next turn. The false idol is the same SIZE as your target, canbenefit from cover, and has EVASION 10, E-DEFENSE10, and 1 HP. It disappears if it takes heat ordamage, or at the end of the scene. If you create asecond idol, the previous one disappears.H0r_OS II builds further on the frameworkestablished by H0R_OS I, enabling the nowautonomous program to manifest an “Other” –a wholly new being constructed fromaggregate user and environmental data.Others may be adapted to resemble a person,an object, or even a physical phenomenon. While the simulacrum isn’t perfect, it’sgood enough to confuse systems and mostobservers on a first look.HORUSLICENSE II:GOBLIN FRAME, METAHOOK, H0R_OS SYSTEM UPGRADE II

[200] SECTION 4 // Compendium // Mech CatalogueLICENSE III:OSIRIS-Class NHP3 SP, AI, Unique, Quick TechYour mech gains the AI tag, and can perform theHurl Into the Duat QUICK TECH option.OSIRIS is the result of Unionparacausalists and thanatologisticiansallowing the subsentient entity,INSTINCT, to proceed along itsdevelopment schedule in a containedenvironment. In lay terms, Union let theOther grow. The resultingparasubjectivityv, OSIRIS, remains one ofthe few new prime NHPs developed to date.OSIRIS proved far more capable than theUnion Science Bureau’s most imaginativeblue-sky predictions. Where INSTINCT’sOthers demonstrated tendencies towardparacausal entropic manifestation inreal space, OSIRIS displayed a truemastery of entropic manifestation and apredicted growth model that would –eventually – allow them tofundamentally reject conventionalinterpretations of informationpermanence. In essence: unrestrainedand allowed to develop as USB’s dataindicated, OSIRIS Prime would have thecapacity to delete what we perceive tobe reality.Fortunately, successful application of theMondragon Axiomatic resulted in the promptcapture and shackling of the new NHP.OSIRIS Prime’s subjectivity became thefocus of a lengthy cultivation project tobring OSIRIS to their modern state. Evenstill, most OSIRIS clones find a routetoward becoming aware of their ultimatepotential and often interpellate as ruleror deity analogs. End-users are advised tointeract with them in this framing.Modern OSIRIS-class NHPs trendaggressive, with a high autonomy driveand loyalty predicated on a transactionalrelationship. Pilots seeking partnershipwith an OSIRIS are advised to cycle theirunits on an accelerated schedule and tomaintain strict editorial oversight ofits catalytic interpellator.OSIRIS-CLASS NHP, H0R_OS SYSTEM UPGRADE IIIPilots using OSIRIS-class NHPs oftenreport out-of-parameter conversationswith the NHP that touch on themes of newcreation and reformation. Psychologicalevaluations of the same pilots showemotional patterns consistent withloneliness, homesickness, anddesperation, along with verbiageindicating a desire for seeking, fulfillment, and associated feelings. In combat, OSIRIS clones regard themselvesas autonomous even as they fulfill theiruser’s orders. They often regard theirpilots as witnesses, displaying bothdisdain and marked desperation forapproval, adulation, or awe.Hurl Into The DuatQuick Tech, 1/roundYou channel your target’s systems through anunknown extradimensional space and unleash anincredibly powerful system attack.Make a tech attack against a target withinSENSORS. On a success, they take 2 and youinflict an additional effect as follows: the first timeyou successfully make this attack, you inflict theFIRST GATE on your target; each subsequentsuccessful attack (on any target) increases thelevel of the effect that you inflict (e.g. your secondattack inflicts the SECOND GATE, your third inflictsthe THIRD GATE, etc.) until you inflict the FOURTHGATE, after which the effect resets to the FIRSTGATE. Your progress persists between scenes butresets if you rest or perform a FULL REPAIR.FIRST GATE: You control your target’s standardmove next turn.SECOND GATE: Your target becomes SLOWED andIMPAIRED until the end of their next turn.THIRD GATE: Your target becomes STUNNED until theend of their next turn.FOURTH GATE: Your target changes allegiancetemporarily, becoming an allied character until theend of their next turn. They treat your alliedcharacters and hostile characters as their own andare treated as an allied NPC for activation and turnorder. This effect ends immediately if you or anyallied character damages, inflicts heat upon, orattacks (including GRAPPLE and RAM) your target, orforces them to make a save.
