5 Stages of Relationships
Everyone Should Know
Falling in love is something that everyone
goes through in their lifetime, even if it is
only once. When you fall in love with
someone, you start to realize that being in
love isn't the hard part - but keeping that
relationship is a big deal.

1. The Romance
Period
When we fall in love with someone, it is difficult for us to recognize his bad
qualities. We get so caught up in our pure attraction to them — that we can’t
see anything wrong with them. While we are seeing our partners through the
screen of perfection, they are also looking at us in the same way. But this
seemingly endless dream doesn’t last forever. Couples counselling teaches us
that we need to pay attention to our partners.
2. The Power Struggle Stage
When we think of relationships, we think of what we
see in movies or read in novels. This makes it easy
for us to assume that our relationships can’t be
perfect unless they resemble those we’ve portrayed.
This phase causes a lot of tension and pain between
the partners, due to the fact that your once-loved
love was shattered before your very eyes. Thinking
like this is extremely detrimental to a successful
relationship, couples therapy teaches us how to
behave personally in a relationship.
3. The Stability Stage
If you and your partner learn to confront each other
respectively about your issues and recognize your
own issues as well, you move on to this stage. After
getting through the bumps in the road, you and your
partner fall into a deeper and more thrilling love than
ever before. Although you may have wanted to at
first, you now realize that you cannot change your
partner, and you have no wish to try anymore.
4. The Commitment Stage
When it comes to relationships or partnerships,
people often associate commitment with marriage
— even though it’s not usually what this stage
represents. However, while many couples make the
mistake of getting married while in the romance
stage of their relationship, this is the stage in which
you and your partner really get ready for marriage.
When you and your partner reach this stage, then
both of you realize that you do not need each other,
you both want each other.
5. The Bliss Stage
Once you have reached this stage, you and your
partner become consciously aware of your love for
each other and you decide to move out into the
world to show it. And, as nature gave you life and
the ability to create such a blissful experience
together, it now calls on you to give back.
