Introduction

Situated around a spectacular harbour and surrounded by beautiful
scenery, Wellington is home to many theatres, cafés, museums, festivals,
restaurants and shops. To make the most of your Wellington experience,
you need to find the right place to live.

Accommodation options include Victoria University’s halls of residence,
homestays and flatting.

Halls of residence are a great option for first-year students. They are safe
and supportive communities of students from different backgrounds
and with varying interests. Each hall organises activities so students can
socialise and lead a balanced life. Residential advisers—senior students—
are onsite to provide friendly support.

Homestays, for international students, are with a family. Meals are provided
but the homes may be a distance from campus, so transport costs should
be considered. Host families will help you with practising English and will
include you in outings.

Flatting with other people may suit you if you are organised and
independent. You will be responsible for cooking some or all of your meals,
managing electricity, food, internet and phone bills and doing housework.
Costs vary according to the type of building, distance from Victoria and
whether you share food and other costs.

The Accommodation Service at Victoria can help you decide which option
is best for you and help you find a suitable home. We process applications
for the halls of residence, arrange homestays for international students
and offer advice about a range of other accommodation options.
