INTRODUCTION niversiti Sains Malaysia (USM), located in

UPenang, the ‘Pearl of the Orient’ is Malaysia’s

fourth public university. Founded in 1969, the
university strongly upholds the motto, “We Lead”
which simply transforms into every action and
event organized under the umbrella of USM. In
2008, USM was awarded the status as Malaysia’s
pioneer APEX University, underlining further the
strength and potential of the university academic,
staff and students.

In enhancing the accelerated program
towards excellence (APEX), USM embarks on

U Smany frontiers other than its core area of tertiary
education. Faculty development, research and
innovation and intensive sports development are
amongst the niche areas for USM. Thus, it is no
mystery on the continuous organizing of world-
class, international level competitions, namely
the USM Chess Online Open Tournament 2022.
Furthermore, this championship has always been
receiving high accolades and compliments from
many distinguished organizations and individuals
for its commendable efforts and wide publicity.
USM Bridge and Chess Club has
travelled through a journey of hard work, sheer
commitment and team spirit all throughout the
long years back. We are glad to pronounce that
this is indeed an event solely organized by the
USM undergraduates. Hence, we welcome you to
join us in making this tournament even a grander
success. As participants, you will be our ‘back
bone’, the thrust of the event. We believe, the
foundation laid next year, will further guarantee

B Na successful path ahead for the development of
this USM Chess Online Open Tournament 2022
in Malaysia in general for the next coming years.
