Mount Kinabalu is located in Sabah, Malaysia. It is Malaysia's tallest peak and the highest point in Borneo, rising 4,095 meters above sea level. Mount Kinabalu is the sixth tallest peak in Southeast Asia. Mount Kinabalu is a symbol of splendor for all Sabah residents. Mount Kinabalu and the surrounding Kinabalu Park have been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000. The park covers 754 square kilometers (291 square miles) and is noted for its rich biodiversity. Mount Kinabalu is part of the Crocker Range, a steep mountain series in Sabah. Gunung Jerai is one of Kedah's mountains, located on the boundary between Kuala Muda and Yan. This mountain is approximately 1,217 metres high. There are several legendary legends concerning Mount Jerai. The most renowned is the myth of a giant rock shaped like a ship, which began with the arrival of Maharaja Merong Mahawangsa, who sought to dock a ship on Serai Island, but the ship was cursed by Sang Kelambai. Here are some proposed Mount Jerai attractions. TITI HAYUN RECREATIONAL FOREST KEDAH STATE FORESTRY MUSEUM 2 1 Titi Hayun Recreational Forest is situated at the foot of Mount Jerai in Yan Province. Tourists frequently come here on weekends or during national holidays. Titi Hayun Waterfall is a prominent waterfall inside this woodland. Mount Mulu is located in Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo. Geographically, there are some significant distinctions. It is Sarawak's second tallest peak, after Mount Murad, and can be viewed from Mulu's summit in good weather. It is Borneo's second most conspicuous peak, rising 2,024 metres from the saddle with Mount Murad. It is the highest peak in Mulu National Park, a breathtaking UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its incredible caverns and vegetation. Unlike other parks, Mount Mulu is constructed of sandstone and shale. It is perhaps the most challenging peak to climb, with a well-maintained route leading all the way to the top. Expect tonnes of mud, rope-assisted cliff parts, and, despite its low peak elevation of 2,376 metres, almost 3,000 metres of elevation gain due to the numerous ups and downs throughout the route. It is supposed that these ethereal creatures would drop down from the sky to play in the crystal-clear waters, giving the pools magical and restorative qualities. According to a legend, a fairy princess sacrificed her immortality to be with a mortal man after falling in love. Despite the terrible ending of their relationship, her soul is said to haunt the falls and bless the waters. In the past, Telaga Tujuh Waterfall in Langkawi, Malaysia, has played a significant role in the local society. The seven interconnected pools created by the tumbling waves have functioned as a freshwater supply and a place for social interaction. L A T A K I J A N G W A T E R F A L L History and Legend WELCO M E TO OUR History Lata Kijang Waterfall is a beloved natural attraction that can be found in the Berembun Forest Reserve of Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. It has historically been important to the indigenous populations living in the area since it provides fresh water and is the location of customary ceremonies. It has grown in popularity as an ecotourism destination in recent decades, drawing tourists who want to see Malaysia's unspoiled jungles. Lata Kijang Waterfall gets its name from a mysterious incident involving a deer, or "kijang" in Malay, according to a local folklore. According to legend, a magnificent kijang once jumped from the waterfall to avoid being chased by hunters. It then vanished into the mists of the fall and merged with the forest. The people who live there think that the ghost of the kijang is still there, guarding the waterfall and its environs. Perhentian Island consists of two islands, Perhentian Besar Island and Perhentian Kecil Island and lies 79km north of Kuala Terengganu and 22 km east of the town of Besut. It takes approximately 30 minutes by speed boat from Kuala Besut Jetty to the island. The Perhentian Island were mentioned in CNN as having the 13th Best Beach in the World in 2013 whilst the Lonely Planet Travel Guide Book 2010 described the island as being the 5th Best Beach to Swing a Hammock. Perhentian Island is one of the highly recommended vacation spots for family and friends. Various interesting activities can be carried out, and the bonus is the very beautiful view of the beach. THE HERITAGE OF Perhentian Island Perhentian Island was first discovered by Batin Mina and his family from the Riau Islands, who inhabited Teluk Dalam at the end of the 18th century. In the beginning, this island did not have an original name and become a stopover for Chinese merchant ships going back and forth from China to Southeast Asia. Because it is often used as a stopover for ships, it is called Pulau Perhentian. Batin Mina’s descedants governed the island untill the last descendant, Batin Sidek, died in 1990. ISLAND | 21

Mabul Island, or Pulau Mabul in the local Malay language, is located in the East Malaysian state of Sabah in Northern Borneo. It is the main gateway to world-famous Sipadan, a protected dive site just 15-20 minutes away by speedboat.The island is a small oval shaped island fringed by sandy beaches and perched on the northwest corner of a larger 200- hectare reef. The reef is on the edge of the continental shelf and the seabed surrounding the reef slopes out to 25–30m deep. In addition, Mabul is also a local island-village. Accommodation ranges from backpacker styled lodges to water bungalows. Although all the excitement is underwater, you can always set your scuba gear aside for a day to laze on Mabul’s soft sand to work on your tan. It is about a 45 minute boat ride from the Semporna town jetty. Within a short distance and prominently visible from the island is the Seaventures Dive Rig. The rig was previously used in the oil and gas industry and was decommissioned in 1985 and stationed in Singapore. It was move to Mabul in 1997 and besides housing travelers, the six legs of the rig shelters marine life. ISLAND | 23


T H E H E R I T A G E Of Mabul island Mabul Island was traditionally inhabited by the Bajau Laut, also known as the sea gypsies, who lived a nomadic lifestyle and depended on fishing for their livelihood. The Bajau Laut are known for their exceptional maritime skills and intimate knowledge of the sea. ISLAND | 24


ISLAND ACTIVITIES YOU CAN'T MISS ISLAND | 25 OCEAN KAYAKING ISLAND HOPPING Navigate the reef’s calm waters or glide beneath stilted water villages for endless fun in the sun in Mabul Island. Kayak rentals in Mabul Island are available throughout the year (±RM30.00 per hour). The best times for kayaking here are either early in the morning or after 4.00pm in the evening to avoid the heat of the day and enjoy the cool breeze from the sea.Types available for rent include transparent kayaks made from similar material used for bulletproof glass and fighter jet canopies. Regular kayaks and paddles are available for rent too. Going island hopping in Sabah is a great way to discover the coastal beauty of this region. Apart from Sipadan, Kapalai and Tun Sakaran Marine Park, those who wish to venture further out may visit other islands including Bum Bum, Pom Pom, Mataking, Timbun Mata, TimbaTimba and many more. Day tours may easily be arranged from Semporna town or Mabul to many of the nearby islands.


Bohey Dulang Island is a mountainous island formed by the remnants of an ancient volcano. It is separated from Bodgaya, the biggest island in Tun Sakaran Marine Park, by a shallow channel. The crater forming Bohey Dulang is now flooded with seawater creating a large, majestic lagoon 25m deep.The southern side of the lagoon is open, but just below the aqua-coloured water’s surface is a long stretch of coral reef representing the southern crater rim. Besides diving and snorkelling, visitors can also hike up to the highest peak (353 metres) of Bohey Dulang to enjoy a scenic view of the surrounding area, and to be closer to the rare flora and fauna found on the island. Legend has it that Princess Salamia from Bum Bum Island was hidden by her family in Bohey Dulang, to avoid an arranged marriage to an ill-famed Sultan from the Southern Philippines. She was turned into a fairy and hidden by the spirits after her vanishment. From a geology perspective, the island was formed from remnants of volcanic activity. Bohey Dulang is the second-largest island amongst the Tun Sakaran Marine Park Islands. ISLAND | 27
