Congratulations to all teachers and staff of MAKTAB RENDAH SAINS
MARA TUN ABDUL RAZAK on their contributions and efforts in
making the 1st Mathematics Supreme League 2021 a success.

The rebranding of the formerly known Mathematics Carnival to
Mathematics Supreme League after 14 years offers a breath of fresh
air to the carnival. It also serves as the foundation that embodies the
human spirit of resilience. This is clearly seen as Covid-19 hindered
the supposedly 1st Mathematics Supreme League from being held
face-to-face initially in 2020 and causing it to be postponed again to
September 2021.

The Mathematics Supreme League 2021 comprised Online
Mathematics Project I and II Competitions which were held in May
and June 2021 respectively. These competitions were judged by
the MARA Secondary Education Division (BPM), whereas CASIO
organised the Online Scientific Calculator Workshop and Competition
that were also opened to lower and upper form MRSM students.

Thank you again to all who are involved. I believe the collaboration
between MARA and CASIO will yield positive results to not only
students, but also to the community. I wish to express my appreciation
to all MRSM students for participating in the Mathematics Supreme
League 2021.

My hope is that from these events, you shall obtain useful knowledge,
give your best and find your strength along the way. Best wishes and
enjoy the league.

Firstly, I would like to congratulate all the committee members,
MARA Secondary Education Division (BPM) and CASIO for the
successful organising of the 1st Mathematics Supreme League
2021. It could not be made possible without the fullest
commitment from everyone involved. I am confident that the
teamwork between MARA and CASIO will further spread the
effectiveness of learning Mathematics not only to the students, but
to the society as well.

Organising the1st Mathematics Supreme League 2021 during the
pandemic of Covid-19, forces all of us to think out of the box.
From the conventional method in conducting the formerly known
Mathematics Carnival, where participants arrived physically at the
host MRSM, to now - which the host MRSM of the 1st Mathematics
Supreme League 2021 organising it virtually via online. We, as
the 1st MRSM hosting this league managed to overcome all the
challenge as a team. Keep up the excellent cooperation and
excellent work!

This also shows our utmost resilience in delivering our duty to
provide all MRSM students with every available opportunity to
expand their potentials on top of providing the top academic
lessons in school. Therefore, it is my hope that this league will be
a catalyst to expand the students’ potential in Mathematics that
transcends beyond physical boundaries and health restrictions.

Finally, I would like to extend my warmest welcome to all MRSM
participants with the hope that you will enjoy the learning while
participating in the league. I also hope that all of you would
continue to expand you potentials as the League concludes.

PROGRAMME BACKGROUND

The Mathematics Supreme League (MASUL) is one of the
programmes under the Mathematics Unit for Upper Secondary and
the Lower Secondary students of MRSM. It is organized by the
Secondary Education Division of MARA (BPM) and is
systematically implemented as a tool for learning experience that
is outside the classroom. MASUL is a rebranding of the previously
known Mathematics Carnival that was introduced in 2006. In
2020, MRSM Tun Abdul Razak was given the honor to host the
programme, however what is supposed to take place on 18 - 20
April 2020 was postponed to this year due to Covid-19 Pandemic
that happened not only in Malaysia, but also the world. The
programme was successfully implemented in September 2021
under the strict guidelines of the new norms.

OBJECTIVES

❖To encourage critical, logical, and analytical thinking of MRSM
students;

❖To instill and boost students’ interest in the Mathematics and
Computer subjects;

❖To increase the awareness of the importance and the
exquisiteness of Mathematics in the MRSM students’ life.
❖To encourage healthy competitiveness in MRSM students.

The Rubik’s Cube was originally invented in the mid-1970s
by Erno Rubik who is a sculptor and professor of
architecture at the University of Budapest, Hungary. It was
originally used to serve as a learning aid for his students
while learning the “three-dimensional spatial relationships”
which then became the most popular puzzle in history with
approximately 500k units sold annually.
The decision to make the Rubik Cube as the main element in
the Mathematics Carnival, and now MASUL is due to its
unique esthetical value to all mathematicians around the
world. The Rubik’s challenge is to figure a way to allow the
cubies to slide and rotate alongside one another while
holding together as a unit. To do so, and with speed at that,
one needs to be brave and to continue practicing with the
principles that is contained in numerous scientific systems
that involves permutations and combinations, symmetries,
and cyclicality.
