A campus monument sign is located at the corner of the intersection of Washburn Title
Avenue and 21st Street. This monument sign should speak to the university as a whole
at not only the proposed law building. A water feature is integrated into the sign and SITE PLAN
creates a symbolic tie between the Dole Plaza and intersection without the necessity for

13. PARKING LOT.

Proposed parking lot is shifted to the west to allow for buffer and transition between
vehicular parking and vehicular arrival courtyard.

14. EXISTING TREES.

A number of established existing trees should be protected during construction and will
provide visual legacy to the site. All existing trees to remain are numbered 14.

15. PROPOSED TREES.

A second generation of trees is proposed to begin establishing the next canopy of trees
for the site.

16. COUMNAR TREES.

Columnar bald cypress trees create a stately entry to the vehicular courtyard and help to
screen the parking and frame the new law building. Uplighting on trees.

17. ORNAMENTAL TREES.

Multi-stem ornamental trees with spring flower and fall color provide a pedestrian scale
element to the space with color and texture. Uplighting on trees.

18. ORNAMENTAL GRASSES.

A ring of ornamental grasses provide movement, color and texture to the site while
creating a visual tie to the surrounding Kansas prairie.

19. FOUNDATION PLANTINGS.

Lower foundation plantings provide transition from the building. Taller plantings will be
utilized in specific areas to screen and buffer interior uses.

20. ORNAMENTAL TREES.

A grid of multi-stem trees is placed on either side of the Dole Plaza to help enclose the
space and provide buffer from the adjacent streets. Uplighting on trees.

21. TRELLIS

Structure flanks water feature and statue and provides shade and spatial definition.

22. SEAT WALL / SEATING BLOCKS

A combination of seat walls and seating blocks allow for a variety of seating opportunites
around the perimeter of the plaza.
