skill types and levels. Avoid Mosquito Bites

6 www.WolcottCommunityNews.com Apply Insect Repellent when Outdoors. Use a repellent
with an EPA-registered ingredient (DEET (N, N-diethyl-
m-toluamide), permethrin, picaridin (KBR 3023), oil of
lemon eucalyptus [p-methane 3, 8-diol (PMD)] or IR3535)
according to the instructions on the product label. DEET
products should not be used on infants under two months
of age and should be used in concentrations of 30% or less
on older children. Oil of lemon eucalyptus should not be
used on children under three years of age.

Be Aware of Peak Mosquito Hours. The hours from dusk
to dawn are peak biting times for many mosquitoes.
Consider rescheduling outdoor activities that occur during
evening or early morning in areas of high risk.

Clothing Can Help Reduce Mosquito Bites. Wearing
long-sleeves, long pants and socks when outdoors will help
keep mosquitoes away from your skin.

Mosquito-Proof Your Home

Drain Standing Water. Mosquitoes lay their eggs in stand-
ing water. Limit the number of places around your home
for mosquitoes to breed by either draining or discarding
items that hold water. Check rain gutters and drains. Empty
unused flowerpots and wading pools and change the water
in birdbaths frequently.

Install or Repair Screens. Keep mosquitoes outside by hav-
ing tightly fitting screens on all of your windows and doors.

Please visit their CAES website for weekly testing results;
https://portal.ct.gov/CAES. If you have any questions or
concerns, please feel free to contact Chesprocott Health
District at 203-272-2761.

$10 to challenge others. Grange members are characterized
by diverse backgrounds and experiences. Many have
been or are members of other organizations as well as
their Grange. When an individual member is successful,
their enthusiasm for the organization soars, thus lighting
the pathway for others to take a similar route. Combined
personal successes equal a Grange that is strong.

Time and Investment: To make real and positive changes
in a Grange takes commitment from its membership.
Granges rely on volunteers and the time that each person
can commit to the organization. It is important to find a
good mix that fits your Grange - so that members do not
become run down or burnt out. In many cases, this
means more than just proclaiming support - it often
means support through volunteerism and an investment
of time. Delegating responsibilities is important, as
is ensuring that every member is involved who wishes
to contribute.

Solid Communications: Granges must continually work
to communicate with the general public in a manner that
brings them positive press, community involvement, and
support for new programs as well as their overall
mission, goals and objectives. But internal Grange
communications are just as important as external com-

(Face- book, Twitter, etc.), have a Grange website, mail
postcards and letters, and even pick up the telephone.

Our primary mission is to deliver the highest quality,
compassionate care possible to all the residents and visitors
of Wolcott. This is accomplished through a combination
of employee and volunteer coverage which allows us to
have a minimum of two ambulances on the road twenty-
four hours per day, seven days per week staffed at the
Advanced Life Support level. There are times we have
three or all four ambulances on the road with highly trained
EMTs and Paramedics responding to a citizen’s call for
help. As we submit this month’s article, we have two
ambulances out of service for emergency repairs. Mainte-
nance and vehicle repairs are a necessary component of our
fleet maintenance program to ensure proper, dependable,
and safe operating vehicles. Because of your support, we
answer over two thousand calls for help each year and we
have not had to ask for mutual aid (help from an ambulance
service outside of Wolcott) since March of 2019 and that
was only because one of our ambulances was out of service
for repairs! Your health and well-being is our primary
concern; we stand ready to serve whenever you need us!

The new Ace Hardware Store located at 95 Wolcott Road is getting ready to officially open on or about July 2, 2021.
Store owner Ray Fontaine of Wolcott and his staff have been busy unloading merchandise in preparation for opening
day. The store will feature a Benjamin Moore paint center and Ego Battery operated products as well as the traditional
hardware products you would expect to find in a hardware store.

State Representative Gale Mastrofrancesco, State
Senator Rob Sampson and Joe Dunn of Crossroads, at-
tended the Wolcott Memorial Day services and showed
their patriotic pride while remembering those who served
our country in the military and paid the ultimate sacrifice.

A memorial service for retired State Trooper and Wolcott resident Harold Lofgren took place at Edgewood Cemetery
recently. Full military honors were also given to Harold for his Navy military service. A gathering of family and friends
took part in the service as well as an honor guard from the CT State Police Department. Thank you for your service
Harold and may you rest in peace.

Focus On Frisbie

Camp Sloper 2021

Frisbie 5th grade students recently completed their biography projects.
They read biographies about important historical figures and wrote a report. They then
dressed up as the person they researched and presented what they learned to the class.

Camp Sloper instructors facilitated team building activities for all Frisbie students
outside on May 21st. Our younger students worked on their communication skills
by building a mystery monster together, while our older students used PVC pipes to get a
marble from one side of the blacktop to the other. Students showed perseverance

and patience with each other while working towards one common goal.

Frisbie School Principal, Mrs. Murtaugh, Teacher of the
Year Committee, Mrs. Zimmerman, and Superintendent,

Dr. Gasper, honored Taylor Palmieri with this year’s
District Teacher of the Year Award

The Frisbie staff waved the fifth grade students into middle school on June 4th. A special children’s performance, featured musician/entertainer Tom “T-Bone” Stankus.
Each student got their moment when our staff chanted their name while they took “T-Bone”, also known as “America’s Musical Pied Piper," entertained Frisbie students

a picture under the colorful balloon arch to commemorate the occasion. with his songs, and movements that encouraged audience participation!
We wish our Frisbie fifth grade students an excellent middle school journey.
