Wolcott Community News Welcome Summer!

Around Town Photography
by Roger Picard

It was senior day at the Wolcott High baseball diamond on May 12, 2021. Six varsity seniors and their families were
introduced onto the field prior to their game against Watertown. They were all presented with gifts and custom base-
ball bats as a farewell gesture.

The May winner of the Wolcott Chamber of Commerce
Customer Rewards Program is Sarah Ethridge of
Potuccos Ring Rd. She selected a $50.00 Pat’s IGA Gift
Card as her prize. She is pictured here receiving her
gift card from Pat’s IGA employee Nick Trager.
Congratulations Sarah.

The town green has a new Norwegian Spruce tree, which replaces the previous tree that had been struck by light-
ning and dying. Ali’s Nurseries of Plantsville, delivered and planted the new tree. It currently stands at approx. 17 feet
tall and will serve an additional role when the Christmas season is upon us.

If you have driven by the town green lately you may have
taken a double take, realizing the town gazebo was
moved. The department of Parks and Recreation recently
moved the gazebo in a westerly direction, now facing an
easterly direction. The purpose of the move according to
mayor Tom Dunn was to open up the center of the green
and create a more spacious area on the green.

The Wolcott Volunteer Ambulance Association recently held a memorial service for one of their founding members,
Jack Ahearn who passed away on April 20, 2021. The service took place at the WVAA Memorial Courtyard. A laying
of a memorial brick with Jack’s name on it was done by his son Jack Jr. and daughter Darlene while family, friends
and WVAA personnel looked on. Thank you for your service Jack.

The Wolcott Country Feeling
Fair is Back for 2021!!! Overwhelmed
or Stressed?
The Wolcott Lions and the Wolcott
Agricultural Society are excited to CASA Has You Covered!
announce that the 2021 Wolcott
Country Fair will be held this August 20, 21, Visit CASA’s New Virtual Zen Den!
22. After being forced to cancel last year’s
fair due to the Covid Pandemic, The Wolcott Country Fair Every month new wellness videos,
will be back better and bigger than ever. information, and resources
will be added to the Zen Den.
This year’s chairmen Roger Harbanuk, Bill Harpin and
Andrew Harbanuk, all stressed that strict COVID measures www.WolcottCASA.org/zen-den.html
will be always in effect throughout the event. “Providing a
safe fair is our first priority,” they stated. “We are actively
working to meet, and exceed, suggested guidelines from
the Department of Public Health.”

With the high rate of vaccinations continuing to grow,
the Lions are very hopeful that there will be even less
restrictions come time for the fair in August. This will allow
people to get out and enjoy themselves, making up
for being isolated and cooped up at home for the last
14 months.

As far as activities, the Wolcott Country Fair will be
offering old favorites and some new ones that the crowds
will surely love. These include – Incredible food, featuring
many NEW Food Trucks; Dock Diving Dogs; Wolcott’s
own World-Renowned Knife Maker, Brian Evelich and
great bands such as “The Zoo” along with “Derik &
The Fun Bags” and newcomers “Peat Moss and the Fertil-
izers”. The hours for the fair are: Friday 4pm - 11pm; Sat-
urday 10am - 11pm; Sunday 10am - 9pm.

Do not forget to practice on your recipes, photographs and
artwork to win a ribbon at the Arts and Crafts Barn. Those
of you producing homemade goods, will find a place in the
Juried Crafters Building to sell your wares.

The Rodeo Arena has plenty of horse action with Barrel
Racing, Gymkhana events and Mini-Horse Pulls. More fun
events in the arena will include Tug of War and the hilar-
ious Backseat Driver Challenge.

The younger crowd should know that the Lions are work-
ing on getting even bigger and better rides for the Carnival
area and that this is a top priority for them.

Of course, there will be the ever-popular fireworks display,
which will be held on Saturday night at 10pm. As always,
there will be the Famous Lion’s Raffle, where you can
purchase tickets to win Thousands of Dollars in Cash. So
be sure to buy a ticket or two to cash in on the fun.

The Wolcott Lions are hoping for a large turnout as this is
their major fundraiser for the year, which helps provide
funding for many community organizations and charities.

You can always Friend the “Wolcott Country Fair” Face-
book page for updates. Keep an eye out for limited specials
on pricing for tickets to the fair.

For those that would like to volunteer at the fair, please
send an email to: WolcottFairVolunteer@gmail.com or call
Steve Tutolo at 203.910.3932.

So, save the dates of August 20, 21, 22 to help make the
2021 Wolcott Country Fair the Biggest and Best Ever!
