Thoughts And
Ideas In The

Beginning

Reasons for Joining B.Ed. Program

From my childhood, I wanted to be an engineer and so I choose science stream after my 10th and
took admission for engineering. Soon after joining engineering, I was not satisfied with what I was
doing and I realized that this is not what I wanted to do in life and I left engineering. This was a very
tough decision and I was able to take this decision as my parents were supportive and kept faith in
me. One day while conversing with my father about career choices, he said that why don’t you
pursue teaching as you have always loved to teach and you have the capability to become a good
teacher.. This was the turning point in life and I agreed because I realized that from the very start I
have always enjoyed teaching to my friends and children from my neighborhood. But my true
passion for teaching developed when I was doing my master degree. I was inspired from one of my
Professor Ms. Salazar and from then I was firm that I wanted to be a teacher just like her.
After my masters, I realized that even though I have good content knowledge but that is not
enough for becoming a teacher because teaching is not just about delivering the content only but
includes managing the class, way of teaching, building connect with the students, etc. which was
not possible just by gaining experience but needed a professional training. Hence, I decided to join
the B.Ed. Program to develop myself and learn the different aspect of teaching.

Expectations about Curriculum

I expected the curriculum to be in such a way that it will help Curriculum
me develop my teaching knowledge and skills. Also, as it is

a professional course, I assumed that the curriculum will
focus more on practical training than theory. The expectation
from the theory subjects was that it provide knowledge and
develop my understanding about various teaching methods,
aids, classroom management, etc. To conclude, I expected
that the curriculum would give me ample of opportunity to
explore and experience the real teaching scenario and help
me to become more confident and improve my personality
as a teacher and also develop my social skills as these all are

the most important aspect of becoming a teacher.

Curriculum Transaction in College

After taking admission, I researched about the
curriculum and activities of the college and found that

the curriculum is transacted using comprehensive
approach. Student-teacher are engaged in various
activities which is helpful for the overall development
of the student-teacher. For gaining real life teaching
experience, internship is arranged. Not only it focuses

on teaching skills, but also through various
competitions like intercollegiate teaching competition,

quiz, etc., , life skills like creative thinking, problem
solving, self awareness, etc. are developed. Also
various seminars and workshops are organized which
gives the student-teacher a scope for their professional

development.

My Philosophy

Teaching

My philosophy of effective teaching is that a teacher must always respect the
individuality in the classroom as all the students are unique in their own way. A teacher
should provide a positive and safe classroom environment that gives each child
a chance to explore their capabilities. Teaching is not just about delivering the content
but making the students ready for outer world.

As quoted by Aristotle,
“ Educating the mind without educating the heart I no education at all.”,

I belief that the teacher must behave with
empathy, love and affection with the children as
relationship between a teacher and children plays
a very important role in the teaching - learning
process.

Learning

I believe that learning occurs when the learner takes ownership of their own learning.
There should be autonomy and freedom in the learning process. We are constantly
interacting with and are influenced by the environment. This experiences makes us
change or modify in order to deal effectively with it. Therefore, learning is a change in
behaviour, influenced by previous behaviour. So the learning environment should be
conductive to gaining new knowledge, which helps the learner to stay engrossed and
interested. Also, the learning culture should be supportive and the learners must feel that
they are contributing to overall environment by being a bigger and important part of the

learning process.

“Learning is a creation, not
consumption. Knowledge is not
something that learner absorbs but

something learner creates.”

Role of Teacher

Teachers play a vital role in the life of children as well as for the society. In classroom,
teacher’s role is to give children a safe and positive learning environment as well as make
learning fun and interesting for them. But in broader aspect, teachers have the capacity
to shape the life of children in the best way and design a positive society. Teachers act as
a support system that is lacking elsewhere in students’ lives. They are a role model and
an inspiration to go further and to dream bigger. They hold students accountable for their
successes and failures.

Role of Learner

With the advent of more and more student-centered learning approaches and other new

methods to increase active involvement of learners in their own learning process, the

traditional roles of learner have changed in several ways. Some of major roles are

mentioned below.

Contribute to class Be Inquisitive

Experiences of School Education

Interaction with Teachers Interaction with Peers

All my teachers in school were supportive and It is true that the friendships we make during
guided me in everything I did. They school time are the most pure and loving bond
we have which is true in my case too. In school,
encouraged me to participate in various
activities. They were always available if I we all used to be enjoy our lunch together,
needed any help. I had positive relationship play, read books in library and many other

my schooling I did not like Marathi subject at in exams. Some experience that are bitter is
all. I realized that how important is teacher’s that the competitiveness between few peers
and groupies that used to exist. Overall the
behavior in the learning process. experience is very pleasing and I can surely

say that those were the best days of
my life.

Consequences of the experiences

The experiences of my school has a positive
impact on my behavior as well as life in general. I

learned the importance of discipline which has
helped in in every sphere of life. It helped me to

become the person who I am today. These
experiences inculcated in me social skills and
values like communication, cooperation, respect,
confidence, self-esteem, interacting with people,

learning new things, dealing with difficult
situations and most of all is the attitude of never

giving up.

Ideas about Discipline

Discipline is one of the most important personality traits in everyone's life. It refers
to a set of rules and regulations which are to be followed while undergoing any
task or activity. It is a way of being honest, hard-working, motivated, and

encouraged while doing any task. It is a character trait that helps the individuals to
complete the tasks in a given fixed deadline. The role of discipline in our life is to
set orderliness, efficiency, punctuality, organization, and focus on our tasks. “Life

without discipline is just like a ship without radar.” Therefore the importance of
discipline in life just cannot be ignored.

Student Motivation

Motivation, as the name suggests, is what ‘moves’ us. It is the “key to persistence and to learning
that lasts. A student who is intrinsically motivated undertakes an activity “for its own sake, for
the enjoyment it provides, the learning it permits, or the feelings of accomplishment it evokes.
Conversely, an extrinsically motivated student performs and strives to succeed “in order to
obtain some reward or avoid some punishment external to the activity itself,” such as grades or
teacher approval.

Development of Student’s Thinking & Creativity

Critical thinking and creative thinking have surfaced as essential skills for all students, regardless
of level or ability, to possess in order to position them to address the complex needs of the 21st

century. Critical and creative thinkers engage in active planning and forethought to set goals,
outline strategies, and determine the best methods through which they can achieve their goals.
Activities that support this planning include recognizing the existence of a challenge, assessing

personal knowledge, understanding one’s own abilities, and allocating resources.

Teacher Student Interaction

Many researches has shown that positive teacher student interaction creates
classroom environments more helpful to learning and meet students’ developmental,
emotional and educational needs. Here are some ways to promote positive teacher
student interaction:

Teacher Personality

In a classroom environment, the way teacher behaves, explains the lesson and interacts
with the students during a course of study has a great impact on students success and
achievement. Teacher’s personality effects the teacher-student relationship and also the
environment of learning. Following are some personality traits that a teacher should
possess :

Patience Empathy & Excellent content
Compassionate knowledge

Communicator Accept Organizational
Strong Work Diversity skills
Lifelong
Ethic Good Listener Learner

Infrastructure of School & College

Infrastructure is a crucial element of learning environments in schools and colleges. It plays a
vital role in shaping up a student’s personality and holistic learning process. Not only for students
but a school with good infrastructure helps the teacher to stay motivated and interested in the
teaching-learning process. Following are some of the elements that a school infrastructure
should have in order to impart quality education:

 Calm and clean campus with tress and plants which creates natural environment
 Spacious and well ventilated classroom with proper amenities like chair, benches,

fans, blackboard/whiteboard, interactive board, etc.
 Well-quipped laboratories
 Well stocked libraries
 Sports ground for outdoor games
 Provisions for indoor games
 Teacher’s staff room
 Separate rooms for extracurricular activities
 Auditorium
 Proper sanitation facilities
 Security facilities like CCTV cameras, etc.
