The Greek Chronicles - III: Hekatombaion

Hekatombaion

It is July. In the Gregorian calendar, named after Julius Caesar, we’re
halfway through the year, but for the ancient Athenians, it was the first
month of their year. Our January, so to speak.

Known as Hekatombaion, the Attic calendar was used by the ancient
Athenians, mainly to keep track of the jubilations happening more or less
every day all over the city. All twelve months were named after gods,
goddesses, and festivals: the first month Hekatombaion was named after
the Hecatomb, a festival where one hundred oxen were sacrificed in
honour of Greek gods.

It began at sunset, after midsummer and summer solstice, when a new
crescent moon was sighted hanging up in the skies. The first day of
Hekatombaion also marked the Athenian New Year, which was dedicated
to Athena, the Goddess of wisdom & warfare, the guardian of Athens.

Thousands of years later, even though the ancient Athenians have evolved
into imagined silhouettes of the past, daily festive still seems to be the
norm in Greece. After all, the Greeks are known for their love of partying.

Why did you choose to make LoG?
Were there any significant purposes behind it?

We wanted to make a community and place that was different
than the rest, and to try and build somewhere that everyone

feels welcome and equal, where they won’t be treated
differently because of their beliefs or rank, for example.

We also wanted a toxic-free zone and to bring
something new and original to Habbo!

What is your favourite memory at LoG?

Firing XinMon

Favorite memory; 6 months anniversary. Seeing the
progress from where we started to where we are today.

Having a lot of iC promotions, taking like Kemyst
getting promoted onto Foundation Advisory.

In the beginning, we said we would never have any
Foundation ranks, but after seeing how much one can put
into LoG like it was his own, it was such an easy decision.

Everything was just remarkable that day. hehe.

What are your goals
in your agency?

Become an OOA in the near future.

What are some current changes
you would like to see in your agency?

I wish to have some more new members to join
us, and trollers be blocked from the agency.

Also, I hope that someday we will have an
active High Rank who will be on base every

day and keep an eye on us.

What made you join INT?

Because the lovely people in INT made
me join here. I do not regret my decision!

What are some great
memories you had here?

Great memory I had were making friends here
and lastly, becoming like a family on Habbo.

anything else to add?

What are your goals in your agency?

Make friends and have fun. I only transferred here a few days
ago but, it's been so lovely so far. Also, the uniform is lowkey cute.

What are some current changes
you would like to see in your agency?

I would like to see more foot traffic in the lobby so
I could get my recruiting on. Internal thought, I've seen how
everyone is with each other and I would love to see it continue!

What made you join FiS?

I was in External Affair unit at my previous agency and whenever I
visited FiS, I noticed how friendly everyone was and what a welcoming
environment it is and that made me want to be a part of the FiS family.

What are some great memories you had here?

I'm pretty fresh around here but the welcome I received when I
transferred was so full of love. I wasn't aware that some of my KoH
family had transferred here, so it was such a surprise to see them!

Do you have anything else to add?

Only that I'm really looking forward to getting to meet all of FiS's
allies, most of which are agencies I haven't spent a lot of time in.

It's such an exciting new adventure.
Can't wait to come hang out at LoG soon!

What are your goals in your agency?

My main goal is just to make everyone feel comfortable
and be the face everyone can go for help and support!

What are some current changes
you would like to see in your agency?

Personally, I would like to see some more colour in
the next base if another is ever made - It just seems like

the same design all the time.

What made you join INT?

It was a group of friends, we all
transferred at the same time because we felt
Interpol had what we wanted in an agency.

It was laid back, it's fun yet you can work
for so many achievements. And, it's just friendly.

What are some great
memories you had here?

One would be the first time I ever joined here,
we all set up a little funny gym in the corner of the base

and it just made me love Interpol even more.

Do you have anything else to add?

I do not, not that I know of anyway.

What are your goals in your agency?

My goal always is for the members, become a happy
the workforce is a productive one.

What are some current changes
you would like to see in your agency?

I'd like to see more members for the BST and American
timezones. I also like to see where the future of FiS goes,

as it's quite a relaxed agency. Events are always nice to
look forward to as most are hosted with some friendly agencies.

What made you join FiS?

I was through a real bad time, and my best friend works here, so
I visited often for support. I got to know a few people here and when
I was finally well enough to return, I decided to stay where I was most

welcomed. Now that I stayed, I found many uses for myself here.

What are some great memories you had here?

The greatest memory here is the event we had, duo maze. I bonded
so well with so many people and helped many people for a whole
day. The whole time, I had no issue with anxiety and came out

winning 3 different prizes — and all of which, I donated back into FiS.

Do you have anything else to add?

The alliance between LoG and FiS is a really great one, and works very well!
I look forward to seeing and visiting LoG both as a friend & FA member.

A festival of great importance in the Hekatombaion calendar, Panathenaea
was held in honor of the patron goddess Athena in the ancient city of Athens.
Celebrated quadrennially, Athenians held athletic and artistic competitions,
arranged hecatomb sacrifices, and prepared gifts. Afterwards, Athenians
would march together towards the Acropolis to present their offerings on the
altar for Athena.

One particular offering was a new robe (peplos) made with white wool with
gold and decorated with colorful tapestries. Below is a recreation of the
seamstresses fabricating the veil.
