THE
LITERATI
BUZZ
PRINCIPAL'S NOTE
‘People are as happy as they make up their minds to be.’
These celebrated words by Abraham Lincoln are what
come to mind as LVIS proudly presents its maiden
middle-school newsletter- "The Literati Buzz" that has
espoused the theme of Ikigai- the secret to true
happiness. If the recent trials that the world has faced
taught us one thing, it is to find and savour happiness in
its many manifest forms. It is this belief that the Lotus
Valley family upholds, with an endeavor to DR. RUCHI SETH
instill in young minds a thirst for living big. Living meaningfully.
Living happily. After all, it is imperative that schooling encapsulates
not only educating the mind but also the heart.
As we pave our way to the exuberant dream of a student body which
does not merely receive knowledge but is the architect of its own
education, we are delighted to share that this edition has been
spearheaded by the dynamic Junior Editorial Board of the school. The
students of Grades VI-VIII have done themselves proud bringing forth
beautifully the sub-themes of happiness, friendship and passion. I
would also like to take this opportunity to thank the scaffolding of the
LVIS family- our parent community, for not only contributing
generously to this edition but also allowing avenue for their children to
truly tap into their creative spirit. I’d also like to congratulate Miss
Neerja Rishi, In-Charge Grades VI-VIII, under whose expert guidance,
this vibrant newsletter has been rolled out.
With the hope that our children keep writing,
recreating and shaping their own reality,
With love

MESSAGE FROM THE IN-CHARGE
What is that one thing you’d like to change the most in the world? − Currently, what is it
that makes you joyful in life? − What makes you wake up in the morning and go through
your day?
I came across this beautiful word ‘Ikigai’ (ee-key-guy), a small Japanese word with a
profound meaning: ‘a reason to live’. It is primarily associated with the town of
Okinawa, which boasts of the longest living people on earth.
Ikigai quotes inspire us to accept, live in the moment, appreciate nature and
beauty, health and longevity, movement and purpose, happiness and passion, and
give us reasons to lead a meaningful life. In tandem with these lines, an ikigai
perspective is also consistent with accepting ‘what is’ rather than ‘what will be’?
This greatly enhances happiness and contentment because rather than dwelling on
the past, worrying about the future, or fighting against what cannot be changed,
there is an open-minded acceptance of the present moment.
I observed that in Japanese culture, there’s a belief that imperfect objects like a
cracked teacup, can indeed be beautiful. This is called ‘wabi-sabi’. It teaches us to
try to let go of the quest for perfection.
Let your child have imperfections in life, and we, especially as parents, must accept
the beauty that lies in all of life’s imperfections. The result will be extra energy, less
stress and a longer, happier and content life.
Our children have bravely confronted the deadly virus, faced the adversities of the
pandemic, felt the losses and shared their sentiments with the bereaved friends and
their families. They have come out of the most challenging times, which has
changed their attitude towards life and reignited their passion
to have spontaneity and fun in their lives and search out
‘simple’ joys again.
I take immense pride in our young Lotusians who are blooming
with these life skills and values, and I’m sure they would not
only lead a purposeful life but will also create a positive aura for
others.
Happy learning! NEERJA RISHI
EDITOR'S NOTE
Start writing, no matter what. The water does not flow
until the faucet is open.’ – Louis L’Amour
It is delightful to see the maiden Literati Buzz in
all its glory! I am truly elated that the efforts and
passion of the entire middle school, the students,
SUKRITI ROY parents and teachers have been vividly brought to
ENGLISH HOD life through the diligent efforts of the first ever
Junior Editorial Board of LVIS! The writing journey albeit
immensely gratifying, is never easy. The process of writing, re-
writing, critiquing and reflecting can be daunting to say the
least, I congratulate each and every writer for having
beautifully celebrated the spirit of happiness through their
creative efforts.
These pieces are the brain children of young Lotusians
grappling with a new normal, a new world, the journey
through which has been surreal. It is these complexities that
allow their work to alchemize into a majestic feast for the
mind and heart. My heartiest congratulations to the whole
team. May the spark of creativity
forever be lit.
Dear Reader
Greetings!
Welcome to the maiden edition of LITERATI BUZZ, the
newsletter of the middle school of Lotus Valley International
School, Noida. We at Lotus Valley believe in helping our
students to blossom by appreciating their individuality and
special skills. This newsletter is a humble initiative to
showcase, appreciate and applaud children’s creativity.
None of us had ever imagined that we would face a
pandemic such as Covid-19 and that it would change our
lives so much. It has altered the school system too. In order
to make this lockdown meaningful and fruitful the
wonderful idea of a Newsletter exclusively by the students of
VI–VIII was conceptualized. Literati Buzz gives young
talented poets, authors, painters and caricaturists a platform
to showcase their outstanding creativity. Their original work
will surely excite and amaze you.
I would like to convey my sincere regards to our Principal
ma’am for her unfailing support in all our ventures. I thank
Ms. Neerja Rishi, Middle School In-charge and Ms. Sukriti
Roy, HOD, Department of Languages for their guidance
throughout. I am indebted to the team of teachers and the
members of the Junior Editorial Board for the herculean task
of editing the newsletter. Hope you enjoy the outstanding
stories, poems and artwork of our young
Lotusians.

CELEBRATING DIFFERENCES
Jocelyn scribbled at top speed in her notebook. She loved drama class. ‘The story is too
serious. It’s supposed to be a comedy, Jocelyn,’ a voice whined. Jocelyn looked up with
a frown. That is, she loved drama class without a writing partner. Especially loud, let’s-
have-fun-Brittany for the said partner. Brittany was the polar opposite of Jocelyn.
‘Well, the protagonist can’t laugh in a library,’ Jocelyn insisted. The argument went on
and on.
Miss Emma soon came over. `Girls, the project is to write a play together, and you need
to celebrate your differences for that to happen. Why not give being friends a shot?’
she asked. Jocelyn and Brittany looked at each other. ‘Miss Emma, we are polar
opposites. You need to agree on at least one thing to be friends.’ Brittany said. Jocelyn
nodded in approval. Miss Emma told the girls to take the time after school to try and
figure out how to be friends. ‘Because it will help you write much better, and you’ll
each have a great friend!’ she had said. And so, Jocelyn found herself waiting
impatiently for Brittany to come to the park. ‘Hey, sorry I’m late!’ Brittany said with a
bright smile. ‘Well, good thing you’re here now.’ Jocelyn offered the girl a smile. 'Well…
how do we become friends?’ Brittany asked. They had been sitting opposite each other
on park benches for ten minutes, and it was getting awkward. ‘Why don’t we try doing
things the other loves? We might find some common ground!’ Jocelyn said. Brittany
agreed, and they both parted with a promise to meet in the evening.
The girls spent the day doing things the other loved most. Brittany tried reading and
baking brownies for the day, and Jocelyn tried skateboarding and seeing a horror
movie. As evening approached, both the girls met up at the park again.
‘That was terrible! I burned the brownies, and Shakespeare is really hard to
understand!’ Brittany said. ‘You’re telling me.’ said Jocelyn, shaking her head
mournfully while holding a bandaged elbow. ‘Well, this day was a failure for both of
us, then.’ Brittany said. Jocelyn nodded hard. ‘Elbow rash is horrible, today was a huge
disappointment,’ she shuddered. Hey, we just agreed on something!’ Brittany
exclaimed.Jocelyn stared at Brittany in excitement. ‘You’re right, Brittany! We just
agreed that we’re both different! So, this is what Miss Emma meant by celebrating our
differences.’ Jocelyn said.
‘Really? I thought it meant throwing a party.’ Brittany scratched her head. Jocelyn
laughed, and so did Brittany. ‘I learned something else, too.’ Brittany grinned.
‘What’s that?’ Jocelyn asked. ‘The value of friendship.’ Brittany hugged Jocelyn.

A TALE OF TRUST
“Let's meet tomorrow. It is getting dark and I must go home now”, said
Ann. Lily responded, “Sure. Your mother must be getting worried.” Lily
and Ann were best friends - friends from the time they were in
kindergarten and their friendship had nothing but grown stronger ever
since. In fact, calling them sisters would not be wrong. They shared
their thoughts, secrets, moments of happiness and despair, and even
their accessories and clothes!
Lily and Ann were in class IX. So, studies were taking a priority over
everything else. Lily aspired to become an astronaut and was
dedicatedly preparing for it. Ann on the other hand never had any such
inclinations. Lily was included in the scholars’ batch by the school to
help bright students prepare better for their academic pursuits. As days
passed, Lily became engrossed in her studies. Ann felt that Lily was
purposely not spending time with her as she preferred the company of
brighter students. Other classmates also encouraged Ann to believe that
it indeed was the case.
Ann openly talked about Lily being selfish. Lily , busy preparing for the
boards was unaware of the growing feelings of anger and animosity in
Ann. In the Board exams, Lily topped; not just in school but in the
entire county. At the merit award ceremony, Ann was watching the
entire felicitation ceremony in a rather envious way.
At the podium Lily said , “Respected teachers and dear friends, thank
you for this gesture. But this could not have been possible without
many of your help . Special thanks to my teachers and mentors. A
special thanks to my dearest friend Ann, who silently and patiently
supported me all through. I was not able to spend any time with her for
two years, yet she never complained and waited patiently for me to
achieve my goal. Dear Ann, thank you!” Tears rolled down Ann's eyes.
She could not gather enough courage to face Lily and
quietly vanished from the school hall.

IN MEMORIAM
Sorrow filled our hearts when Ms.Richa Saxena, our dear
colleague and teacher of Lotus Valley International School,
Noida, lost her life’s battle to Covid on 23rd May, 2021.
Richa joined LVISN on 1st April,2014 and taught Social
Science to the Middle School. She was a good friend to
many of us and a great colleague. Her students will
always remember her as a hardworking, optimistic and
disciplined teacher who was always appreciative of their
achievements.
It’s been months since Richa left us, yet the emptiness
remains.
Our hearts and prayers will ever remain with her family
members. Wish she is happy in Elysium!

BRAIN GYM
Brain power improves by brain use, just as our bodily strength grows
with exercise. Brain gym is a movement-based program comprising of
simple exercises that helps to stimulate the brain function with the
focus on improving learning and mental organization. The consistent
practice of brain gym movements wake up neural connections in the
whole brain and body, making us ready for learning while feeling safe
and emotionally centred.
Students at LVIS, have been engaging with Brain Gym activities in a
fun manner every morning with their teachers. They have been
practising activities such as Brain buttons, Thinking caps, Cross crawl,

ART THERAPY
‘The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things,
but their inward significance’ a quotable quote to be pondered upon.
The powerful effect that art and creative expression have on human
minds is immense. Art therapy provides individuals who arefacing
emotional, physical and cognitive challenges with new pathways
towards understanding and self-expression. One does not have to be a
born artist to benefit from art therapy. Art therapy uses the power of
arts to enhance healing of all kinds. It inspires people to bring out their
artistic ability. Anyone who feels overwhelmed or pressurised by the
hectic world that we live in must try art therapy. It is an emotional and
a great stress relief for everyone and gives a feeling of self-
accomplishment which is very essential to improve
self-confidence.

ART THERAPY AND COVID PANDEMIC
Humans have been using art therapy as a form of self-expression for thousands
of years. This article will describe the benefits of artistic expression and how it’s
helping millions cope with COVID pandemic by exploring our inner self.
BENEFITS OF ART THERAPY
ENHANCES CREATIVE SKILLS
There are heaps of artistic activities like journaling, sculpting, painting, clay
modelling, sketching, etc. All forms of artistic expression can be beneficial, but we
may find one that draws us in more than others. Practicing art therapy as an
individual can also be rewarding, and often leads to a fascinating road of self-
discovery!
A GREAT STRESSBUSTER
Art therapy is helpful for all age groups. By using our unwanted free time to do
something we are passionate about, we may discover that our stress levels
normalize and we experience more clarity. During the outbreak of COVID-19,
people are experiencing higher levels of stress than usual. Art therapy promotes
creative thinking and helps us find release of suppressed feelings which ultimately
leads to inner peace.
TREATS MENTAL DISORDERS
Its also great for coping with PTSD, clinical depression, anxiety, children with
learning disabilities, people with eating disorders, older adults dealing with
dementia, addiction like screen addiction.During this pandemic, while we find
ourselves in self-isolation, many are resorting to art therapy to help them get
through these troubled times. Many therapists and teachers are offering online
courses to help teach basic art skills.
Art therapy is all about the process and not the result. We don’t need to be a
gifted artist to experience the benefits of art therapy. Nobody is there to judge us
on how good our art is. As long as we are feeling comfortable and relaxed while
creating, we are succeeding. There is no right or wrong; it’s simply a way of self-
expression.
