SUMMER TASKS CLASS VI-FINAL

SUMMER TASKS CLASS VI-FINAL

Connect Time with Family

If you can’t go outside, go inside!

Dear students

Summertime is always the best of what might be!
Though the world outside is rearranging itself and your movement is restricted to the confines of your
home, yet summer is here, singing merrily at your doorstep. It has arrived, as usual, with a bagful of time:
time to strengthen family bonds, time to share joys and sorrows, and most of all, time to find peace
within ourselves. All you need to do is go within each day, explore within yourself, find your inner
strength and balance, start enjoying the little things that bring joy into your lives, and emerge as better
human beings.
Children, we know that creativity isn’t the way you think, it’s the way you like to live, and your young
minds always bubble with great ideas despite the challenges we are facing these days. At times you might
want to meditate or write a journal. Or you might want to sing a song or sit quietly with your feelings,
trying to accept and make peace with them. But amidst all this, you must ensure that you fill your days
with activities and feelings that give you a sense of accomplishment. Keeping this in mind, we have
designed some exciting activities for you which you will love doing while staying indoors. Do these
activities as they will not only engage you fruitfully but will also enhance your learning!

Here’s a Bingo sheet for you filled with different activities in two colour boxes- green and blue.
Activities in the green coloured boxes are habit-forming activities to keep you engaged, fill your heart
with gratitude and make you realize how blessed you are.
The activities in blue boxes are compulsory activities that help you connect with books, God, and our
country. You can do them independently or along with your family members.

 Please note that no activity is graded. They are simply designed to make you a curious learner and
instil life skills in you.

Here are the details of the compulsory activities (marked in blue in the bingo sheet above):

was your favourite character, and why? Would you recommend this book to your friend?

2. Connect with God: We know - Prayers can move mountains. In these challenging times, hope is
something that always stays with us. We offer prayers to God every day to keep us all safe and
healthy. This activity is designed to help you connect with the almighty. You can:

Choose any two prayers/ Shlokas you like the most.
They can be your family prayers, festival prayers or prayer songs, chants or mantras.

Write the meaning of the whole prayer neatly in MS word or on a sheet of paper.
When we pray, it creates an aura and spreads positive vibrations around us.

your views in a short video. Please share it with us.

rich heritage. It is a vast country and is valued by many civilizations and cultures. This summer,

https://www.incredibleindia.org/content/incredibleindia/en/experiences/heritage.html

You have to pick any two topics from the list given below and research on them.

a. Our Festivals

Indians celebrate festivals with great enthusiasm. We follow the age-old rituals and traditions associated
with them. You can research festivals of India and their history, significance, folklore and cultural values
attached to them. Also, add your perspective to it by highlighting the sustainable alternatives that you
follow in current times when you celebrate these festivals. Make a digital photo album/vlog etc., and
share the link with us.

b. Our Family Traditions

Prepare a list of your family traditions and values you have been observing, like touching elders' feet,
greeting with Namaste rather than good morning etc. Have conversations with your family members and
prepare a questionnaire like - What traditions do I see my parents or grandparents practice? Do I also
practice them? Why or why not? Can I think of some traditions I would want to initiate in my family?
What would be my rationale behind it?

c. Monuments of India

India is one of the most beautiful countries globally. It is best known for its fascinating monuments like
the Taj Mahal, Charminar, Rani ki Vav, Forts of Rajasthan, Temples and caves etc. From their splendid
architecture to a strong legacy, the historical monuments of India speak volumes of the glory of its rulers
and the brilliance of artisans in ancient India. This summer, explore a few monuments, history, and
background about the magnificent architecture and materials used to construct them. Make a digital photo
gallery and share it with others. You can also find out about the monuments that are not yet famous or yet
to be explored but have a glorious past and amazing architecture.

d. Traditional Art and Craft

The art and craft of India is diverse, rich in history, culture and religion and reflects the influence of
different empires. Throughout centuries, it has been embedded as a tradition within rural communities.
E.g., various industries in other states specialize in a particular form of art/craft like metal crafts, tie and
dye, Mithila paintings, cane work, woodwork, mirror work, glasswork, etc. Find out some famous art and
craft works of a few states and research them. You can also revive the dying art/ craft by initiating an
awareness campaign through various modes like social media, virtual meets etc. Make a digital photo
gallery and write short para on its historical significance.

e. Traditional Games or Sports

Try to explore some famous Indian games like chauper, Gilli danda, lattu, pictogram, hopscotch,
antakshari, Shatranj, Gitte, kho-kho, kabaddi etc. Find out from your parents/grandparents what games
they played when they were young. Make an effort to revive these games by documenting the rules that
were followed while playing them. Play with your family members. Make a digital photo album of such
games and add pictures of fun moments while playing these with your family.

f. Natural Heritage

India is rich in its flora and fauna. There are numerous parks, sanctuaries, mountains, beaches, rivers and
unexplored places. As we can't travel physically, let's explore the places you wish to visit in India.
Research on the history and significance of that place. You can also research places that are yet
unexplored and not so famous but are equally beautiful. You can make a digital diary or a photo album.
Share your research with others.

g. Traditional Dance and Music

Find out any dance form or music that you are not aware of or aware of, and it is a part of your family
ritual or customs—research on its origin and its cultural value. Share your research with your family and
friends and create an awareness campaign about the lost/ dying dance and music forms on social media
platforms, zoom chats, etc. You may also record a short video performing the same.

h. Traditional Medical care

India is known for its traditional medicinal systems—Ayurveda, Siddha, and Unani. Medical systems are
found mentioned even in the ancient Vedas and other scriptures. Ayurveda, the traditional Indian
medicine, called "science of longevity", remains the most ancient yet living tradition. Although India has
successfully promoted its therapies with more research and a science-based approach, it still needs more
extensive and evidence-based research.. We generally follow 'Gharelu Nuskhe' like special kadha/ churan
or natural beauty products made at home etc., as advised by our elders for some common problems we
face.
Research on a few Ayurvedic herbs, spices or homemade recipes used over centuries by our Rishi's and
then inherited by our forefathers to treat some common ailments. Document them in your way.

i. Traditional Cuisines

Cooking is an art, and our grandmas' and moms' have attained expertise on many traditional dishes. You
can bring out the hidden chef in you this summer and learn a traditional dish from them. It can be
savoury/ snack/ drink/ pickle/something that's everyone's favourite. Follow their steps to prepare it and
enjoy it with your loved ones at home. Don't forget to share the recipe of the final dish and a picture/
recording of the process, if possible. HAPPY COOKING!!

How to document your holiday homework?

 Choose innovative ways to document it like making vlogs, or a blog or record a podcast or make a
digital photo album via tech tools like MS Sway, Canvas, Book creator, Prezi or MS PowerPoint
or Thing link. 'Visit' for Virtual visits to museums or you can also upload the content on your
YouTube channel. Create a link. Share with your friends, family and teachers.

 You have to attach the link or word file to your Class Exam team. Go to Class Notebook and
attach your work under the miscellaneous portfolio folder.

We are hopeful that such activities will help you widen your knowledge and enjoy exploring the hidden
rich heritage and culture of our country. Also, it's the time to know and connect to our ancient valuable
traditions and practices that have kept us happy, safe and at peace till now.

Wishing you a safe and secure time with your family! Stay indoors and enjoy your holidays!!
Remember, if you have good thoughts, engage yourself positively, they will shine out of your face like
sunbeams, and you will always look lovely.
