Officers & Directors A Message from Jim...
May 2018 – April 2019 Dear Sangamo Club Members,
Sangamo Club Hello, and happy Autumn. This is my favorite time of the year!
Board of Directors
As I write this article, Springfield has just had their Route 66 Car Show. What a great show it was – I
President, Leslie Sgro checked out the various cars with much delight! The Club hosted a fantastic Fall Chaines de Rotisseurs
Vice President, Keith Sias dinner on Saturday evening, the Culinary team led by Chef Joe Martin and the Service Team led by
Secretary, J. Chistopher Smith Dennis Groves and Tony Cunningham did a superb job. All guests that were in attendance had a nice
Treasurer, John Myers, CPA time. Thank you.
Past President, Many great times are had at the Sangamo Club; we are building for an even stronger future. The
J. Randall Cox Club always looks the very best when it is filled with members, their families and friends having a
great time. I am frequently asked, “how’s the Club doing?” The Sangamo Club is going great, we are
Officers & Directors a member-driven Club. We rely on our members inviting their friends and colleagues to join the San-
of the Board gamo Club. We are crazy about our members; we want this to be your favorite place in Springfield. If
you have a friend or colleague that would like to have a tour of the facility please have them contact
Class of 2018 Ali so that we can discuss some of the many benefits of being a member. The reciprocal opportunities
Charles Pell are fantastic; the Sangamo Club is part of a network of private Clubs throughout the United States and
Dr. Diane Rutledge many foreign countries.
Leslie Sgro
Class of 2019 Please join me in welcoming our new Administrative Assistant, Ms. Mary Hall. We are very pleased
John Myers, CPA to have her as a part of our team, see her bio enclosed.
Lauren Nevius
Keith Sias We have some great activities that are planned, and hope that you join us for many of them! The
Class of 2020 Spooktober Trick-or-Treat Dinner will feature the blue envelope with a trick or treat enclosed! Join us
Ryan Hillestad for the Oktoberfest dinner specials the first week of October. Everyone has said about the Sangamo
Emily Rabin events that they are often imitated, never duplicated!
Josh Sharp
We are taking reservations for banquets and holidays parties. Please contact us if we can host your
next special event. We would love the opportunity to work with you and serve your guests. There is
no party like a Sangamo Club party!
See you at the Sangamo Club.

tarot and trivia ladies’ night
monday, october 29
5:30pm
The Sangamo Club presents a frightfully fun evening, full of mystery, a touch of magic and spooky trivia.
This ladies night out will be unlike any other you have seen! We will be featuring Tarot Card reader, Morgan
Paige, who wants to bring you a divinely guided personal reading that suits you here and now. Tarot is all
about your intuition. It’s the inner voice of your higher self, and Tarot cards can help you embrace messages.
It’s not about lifting ‘curses’ or meddling with other people’s choices. It’s not necessarily about gloomy omens
or impending doom or opening evil doors. Tarot is a tool for confident decision-making, clear communication
and timely, decisive action. With each Tarot reading, you can explore the pros & cons of different choices that
you might make. It is a fascinating ancient art that we are excited to offer our members. But the fun won’t stop
there! As you wait for your personal reading we will also be hosting team trivia! So put on you witch’s cap
and bring all of your Halloween knowledge to the table! We suggest teams of five but accommodations will
be made to meet the needs of the ladies who attend.

artist of the month - lily fields
“The journey, whether near or far, is what rejuvenates my being, fuels my desire
to create and inspires my photography.”- Lily Fields
Born in Taipei Taiwan, Lily Kan-Fields immigrated to the US with her father, mother, and older sister when
she was four years old. She grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, moving five times before the age of ten, and
then moving three more times over the course of high school. For some, moving so many times would be
daunting, but for not Lily. To this day, every few years she feels the urge to move, and she believes her love of
travel was born from her journeys as a child.
Raised mostly in Woodridge and Naperville IL, Lily moved to Chatham, IL after getting married. She discov-
ered her love for photography while in high school and continued to pursue her passion in college. She earned
her Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts from the University of Illinois at Springfield. While in college, she won
the Bruce Magidsohn Scholarship Award. She also won best of show in the 1999 Juried Student Art Show for
her Raku and honorable mention for her black and white series of nudes. After college, she took time to raise
her family. She and her husband are proud parents of five beautiful children, ranging in ages from 10 to 24.
Lily is a floral designer in Springfield and pursues photography in her spare time as well as hand-made, wire-
wrapped jewelry with a conscious emphasis on using recycled materials.

membership report
by ali murphy, membership director
Since June 18, 1890 the Sangamo Club has represented the peak of high class dining, exception-
al ambiance, and above all first-class service to its very fine members in the Springfield area and
beyond. Being a member of our premiere dining club is an investment in yourself and the com-
munity. As the new Membership Director, I would like to see our membership reach new heights!
Membership by invitation and positive word of mouth will take us there. I invite every member
to have someone to the Club. Together we can show area residents the value of a membership.
Bring a friend, a family member or a co-worker. Now is the time for our current members to act as
ambassadors for their Club. Help us get the word out. We all know the Sangamo Club is the place
to be, but now it’s time to show everyone else! Lead the charge for the future by introducing po-
tential members to the Sangamo Club, engaging younger members in many events and activities,
and focusing on member experiences and interactions for those under the age of 40.
We’re offering gift cards! Sangamo Club

Please welcome mary hall, administrative assistant
My personal mission is to be a strong and positive role model to not only
my daughter, but for any individual I interact with. I hope to inspire oth-
ers to never stop seeking out new experiences and adventures. Growing
up in a family that was always on the move, I have lived in many places
across the country. I was encouraged when I was young to be active and
involved. During my school years, I participated in sports such as vol-
leyball, tennis, soccer, softball and competitive swimming. In December
2007, I obtained my certification in Office Technology from Southwestern
Illinois College of Granite City, IL. I immediately began working as an
Administrative Assistant, and have been working in administration since.
I began working with The Boys & Girls Club of America in 2013. This is
when I started to learn how much I enjoy working in a club environment
because of the interactions I had with people from all walks of life. By
February 2017 I began working with Island Bay Yacht Club where I assist-
ed with the membership and other administrative tasks. This is when I
started getting to know many members within the community and sur-
rounding areas. I came to Sangamo to learn how to work in other areas
within the club, and have more interaction with the members. I am very
excited to be a part of Sangamo Club and looking forward to working
with all of you!
member of the month – Dr. Charlotte J. Warren
Background:
I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in psychi-
atric nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. I
went on to complete a Ph.D. in counseling psychology and research from the Uni-
versity of Virginia. My career has encompassed practicing and teaching nursing,
a practice in psychotherapy and college administration. I also served 21 years in
the Georgia Army National Guard, retiring as Colonel and Honorary Brigadier
General. Currently I am privileged to have served as the President of Lincoln
Land Community College for the past 12 years..
Accomplishments:
Since moving to Springfield I have been honored to contribute to the community
through a number of organizations including the United Way Board, the Greater
Springfield Chamber of Commerce Board, and the Mid-Illinois Medical District
Commission. Nationally I get to continue to support the reserve armed forces by
serving on the Reserve Forces Policy Board, an advisory board within the offices
of the Secretary of Defense.
Why You’re a Member:
Sangamo Club is a great place to meet and do business, while still being able to enjoy a great meal. All of the special events
offered are a great bonus.
Making Memories:
Sitting around a large table of friends, oyster shells piled high from the Oyster fest. It is always a great excuse for a party!
‘tis the season for generosity
As a part of our Local First initiative and in the spirit of giving, the Sangamo Club invites our members and staff to
get involved. The Club will be collecting donations to support two local institutes. We will be collecting blankets,
sweat shirts, and socks for the Washington Street Mission. Donations will be delivered the week of Thanksgiving.
So if you find yourself cleaning out your closet, do your part and bring in these items. We are also supporting HSHS
St. Johns Children’s Hospital by way of new toy and art supplies donations. These items must be purchased new
to be given to the children. Together we can help those in need this holiday season.
