Welcome Letter From the Head of School
Hello MSB!
What a year it has been for MSB, Beijing, China, and the world. We couldn’t have imagined that we would be apart from each other for so long, that we would all get used to words like “Zoom” or “pre-recorded” or deal with nerves around accidentally sharing our screen!
I want you all to know that although this year has been extremely difficult, the true nature of our community shone out because of you! As we all adjusted to life, the strong connection that you have with your teachers and friends has been the beacon that we have all looked to for normalcy and the belief that things will get better.
I have been so proud of your bravery and your spirit. You have written stories about fighting back against Covid-19. You have looked out for your friends to make sure they were doing fine over these last few months. You never gave up and you have never stopped smiling.
This was a year of many firsts for MSB. We opened our new Middle School and our new Infant and Toddler building. We had our first on campus JISAC games and our first friendlies with other schools. We started to get accustomed to the wonderful new fields we have and all the games that we can now plan. We loved all the snow (and the snowmen!) that came this past winter!
In closing, let us not focus on the difficult times but on the good that came from it. We spent more time with our families, we learned the value of slowing down and enjoying the simpler things in life, and we learned how much we all missed our everyday routines and how important all those around us are. We learned that a school is much more than
its buildings and classrooms, it’s all of us! In the years to come, let us hold on to that and remember the good that came from this time.

Message From
the Student
Council
Dear MSB Students,
This has been a difficult and challenging year for all of us, but congratulations! You made it through successfully! Home learning isn’t always easy, there are lots of things out of our control. From internet problems to jammed printers, obstacles are always right around the corner. But you conquered them all, and that is something you should be proud of. Make sure to give a big thanks to your parents and teachers too, because they worked tirelessly to help you.
Adapting to home learning has not been easy. For most of us, when we are at home we feel relaxed, so working at home as if you are at school on a schedule is no easy task. Your family members might be in other meetings as well, so you needed to get used to the constant noise of people talking. There are many other distractions and reasons to get frustrated. But slowly, you got used to home learning, you achieved those seemingly impossible goals. You can be very proud of those achievements.
The reason for our home learning was because of something nobody could have expected, a global outbreak of the coronavirus, or COVID-19. People all around the world were getting really sick because of this virus, so we all had to stay home and stay safe. Some people may be enjoyed staying home, others were going crazy quarantined in their houses, but no matter whether you enjoyed the time at home or not, it was memorable. This experience will be remembered for a
very long time. You will remember headlines flashing across your television, the crazy dash to the supermarket to stock up on toilet paper and banging your head against your desk in frustration when the internet stopped working. These experiences will be etched into your brain and be remembered for a very long time.
Seeing the number of people getting sick rise at an uncontrollable rate was frightening for all of us. And the things we have done to prevent more people from getting sick has been truly amazing, an act of kindness and solidarity. When these unexpected events happen, it is easy to get trapped in fear and worry. But stay positive, keep your morale high, and believe that if we continue to stick together we can continue to beat this virus, and any future pandemics, and come out the other side as a better, stronger world. Always remember that you have the choice to be happy, don’t let anything bring you down.
For those leaving MSB, we wish you a lifetime of happiness and joy – come visit MSB once in a while! This has been one of those times we won’t get to say goodbye in person but hopefully your fond memories of MSB live on in your heart.
Once again, we congratulate you on a rewarding year. Have a wonderful summer and we wish you all the best in the coming year!
