The art world sometimes refers to this phenomenon as aerial perspective. The
use of this term for our purposes would be confusing, since an aerial perspective
in architecture and landscape architecture refers to a perspective view of a
subject from above. Such views are also known as “birds-eye” views.

In reality, however, value and chroma are interrelated in strong-chroma colors. If
you attempt to significantly change the value of a strong-chroma color, you find
you must usually reduce its chroma to do so. This is because each hue reaches its
strongest chroma at a particular value, called its spectrum value. For example,
try to imagine a strong-chroma dark yellow. It is impossible to imagine, because
the color does not exist. As a yellow becomes darker, its chroma grows weaker.
Certain colors are simply not achievable.
