Upcoming Parent Feedback Meetings

Teachers will be sending letters home this week regarding our Parent Teacher Feedback meetings scheduled for
18 - 21 June. It is imperative that you meet with your child’s teacher to discuss academic progress over the course
of the last semester, so please do remember to fill in your reply slips and send them back to school by the end of
the week. Please take note that school will end at 1pm on Monday - Thursday during the last week of the term,
and that the term ends at 11:00 on Friday 22 June. There will be no Aftercare on the last day of term.

Oo la la!

Mrs. Daly’s Grade 3 learners each made a ‘kroon’ to help them remember all of their
Afrikaans vocabulary using the ‘oo klank!’

What do you think?

Our teachers are utilizing Thinking Maps across all areas of the
curriculum, and Mrs. Lathleiff used a Circle Map during one of
her lessons to consolidate the sl sound with her learners.

Putting out fires!

The Grade 1s and 2s enjoyed an exciting trip to the fire station on the 17th May. The children were presented with
a safety talk and they enjoyed practicing "Stop, Drop and Roll". They then had a tour around the fire station and
learnt about the different parts of the fire engine as well as the special tools that fire fighters use. The children also
got an opportunity to spray the hose as they used their imagination to put out a fire. The highlight of the trip was the
fire engine ride! There was much excitement as the learners zoomed around the fire station with the sirens going!
Overall, it was a most successful trip!

How have you ‘bean’?

The ALP class have been learning about plant life in Natural Science
this term. As part of their theme, they have each grown and had to look
after a bean plant as well as a Checkers mini garden plant. As you can
see, they have been doing a sterling job at maintaining their plants and
we are convinced that Jack Kleynhans is, in fact, growing a beanstalk
just like the one in the popular Fairy tale! He has promised to share his
golden eggs with his teacher!

A dino-mite day!

On Friday 25 May, the Foundation Phase and the ALP class visited the Dinos Alive Expo at Blue Route
Mall. A first for the Southern Suburbs, this Expo showcases an astounding collection of animatronic
dinosaurs. Dinos Alive tells the story of dinosaurs from the Mesozoic Era, from approximately 250 million
years ago. Featuring 17 animatronic dinosaurs that can move their limbs, blink and emit lifelike sounds,
this showcase was not only fun but educational too. The learners were able to see familiar faces like the
Tyrannosaurus Rex and Triceratops, but also learnt about the lesser known Spinosaurus and Ankylosau-
rus. The children were allowed to get up close and personal with the Apatosaurus and go for a ride on
his back! There was also a small excavation fossil pit where they could get their hands dirty digging up
the ‘real’ bones of these ancient animals. This unique outing was certainly enjoyed by all!

What an art! The Arts and Crafts Club have continued to enjoy the little projects they have worked on
each week with Mrs. Lathleiff. They were very proud to show off the elephants with moving trunks and the
Bookworm Pencil Holders that they completed this term!

We were in the Cape Argus!
We were very proud to feature our Art in the Cape Argus newspaper in their Jelly Bean Journal

this past weekend! Look at the beautiful pieces by (left to right) Jack Pomario, Julia Nicol
and Keenan Thomas, all in Grade 2!
