Wet Strength Agent Wet strength agent are water-soluble
polymer products. The most commonly used
solutions are formulated with polyamide-
epichlorohydrin (PAE) resin chemistry and
are intended primarily for the consumer
market. PAE resins function in
neutral/alkaline papermaking processes.
They have a high level of Wet strength agent
permanence, help improve machine
efficiency and do not adversely affect paper
absorbency.
Wet strength agent work during the curing process, when the functional groups on the polymer
react with cellulose fiber to form a covalent bond. The polymer molecules cross-link, forming a
network in the cellulose web that provides strength when the paper becomes wet.

Increase burst strength up to 20% of kraft liner
03 May 2019
Keywords: ABSTRACT
Objectives: In this test report was designed to burst strength up to 20% with DSR.
Dry Strength Agent, 20% (DSR),
Burst Strength, Material and methods:
Paper Grade: 205 gsm of kraft liner 1. Dry Strength Agent, 20%
Speed 410 m/min 2. Water
3. Pulp
4. Chemical feed system
The application of different dosages of DSR.
Result: The burst strength improvement result was 6.5, 11.38, 14.50 and 19.25% after dosage DSR as
5, 10 ,15 and 20 kg/MTs paper.
Conclusion: DSR can improve the retention of fine fibers, effectively improve the dewatering of webs.
The result showed that the burst strength of the sample was improved with increasing dosage.
Process flow:

DSR 20 kg/MTs 6.40-6.70 7.63-7.75 14.5
6.40-6.70 19.25
Conclusions & Suggestions:
The use of fibers is steadily increasing in kraft liner paper products and there is a need to improve the strength properties of paper products made
from these fibers. Using a dry strength additive is a improve burst strength. Hence, in this test. Some conclusions of addition of dry strength agents
are as follows:
1. The maximum in burst improvement results was 19.25 % after dosage DSR as 20 kg/ton paper.
2. We need to run long time for trial of dosage as 20 kg/ton paper for up to 20 %.
3. The dry strength performance increases accordingly with the dosages increase.
4. The dry strength can reduce the amount of modified starch used. It also increases the speed of the machine due to reduced viscosity.
