What is Project One?
Project One at Milton Keynes College is a unique course that focuses on the
individual development of students through the exploration of self-expression,
personal and community identity as well as personal growth. This is achieved
through understanding and exploring creativity as well as encouraging social
interaction. It is a course that seeks to find the individual within the student as
well as preparing them for progression into not only mainstream education but
contributes to much needed life skills to build upon.
Part of the Project One experience involves workshops and off site visits when possible.
Some of the places we have visited have included MK Gallery, an East London Street
Art tour and an interactive VR experience.
What can you learn on Project One?
We try and help students settle, form group dynamics and build confidence skills
through graded assignments and course work. Subjects are based around the
themes of identity, both individual as well as group and environment identity.
Unlocking imagination through creativity is the cornerstone of the Project One
experience and this has proved successful in building confidence. The course
will cover presentation work, creative practical tasks as well as group work to
form social interaction skills. Our students finish the year knowing more about
themselves and their potential as well as receiving a L1 qualification through
practical and theory based assessments. Project One is a blend of in-class and
out of class workshops, vocational and individual progression based activities.
This course is designed
to help you discover who
you are, and how your
mind set and not your
ability affects how you do
in life. You will explore
this through creativity
and social interaction.
Who is Project One for?
Project One is for students who have found school challenging, been home
schooled or have lost a sense of direction in life at a young age. It seeks to find
the transition between past experiences and into new, positive opportunities to
develop and learn, mainly about who the student actually is and how they fit into
the wider picture. Project One values diversity and recognises that your past
does not necessarily define your future. This course acts as a springboard for
students to identify and explore possible routes of progression that are ideally
suited to their unique ways of personal learning.
Project One students are encouraged
to work independently and within
groups as they learn to build resilience
by exploring their own identity as well
as the world around them.
Project One in a nutshell
• Not sure where you are going with your life at
this moment in time?
• Lack the skills and confidence to develop in
various areas?
• Need help in finding out who you are?
• Wondering about progression for a chosen
career plan?
This is what our previous students have said about this course.
