February, 2023 Hello and welcome to my portfolio site. I am an ambivert soul, but I am happy to state that I aspire to be a teacher. During my school days, I enjoy assisting my classmates with their studies, and this mindset was the trigger that drove me to pursue a career as a teacher. After finishing secondary education, I became a home tuition tutor with no prior teaching experience. I am currently employed as a part-time teacher in a Cambridge English enrichment centre. In my view, being a degree student and a teacher for school children helps me develop my career far more effectively. Not everyone could handle both studies and teaching at the same time, but I am fortunate, and I am always delighted of myself for multitasking without affecting my studies. I am a firm believer that every educator should have a teaching philosophy. It depicts a person ' s overall approach to their students. As a teacher, I would assist my students in discovering and strengthening their unique talents by focusing on interpersonal abilities and selfexpression. I serve not only as an instructor, but also as a role model for my students by exhibiting my faith in their potential and offering the guidance and encouragement they require to achieve in their academic endeavors. PHILOSOPHY OF TEACHING 2011-2022 “Teaching is a very noble profession thatshapes the character, calibre, and future of an individual. If the people remember me as a good teacher, that will be the biggest honorfor me.”

EED21604 Microteaching was a subject that taught me many various facets of teaching. Mr. Lachel, a solid foundation of Microteaching class not just for myself, but for the entire class, deserves a special gratitude. This subject comprehensively discusses how to shape a future teacher in all elements of educational opportunities. It is a theoretical teacher training technique subject utilising authentic classroom scenarios to enhance abilities and aid to gain a more profound comprehension of the discipline of teaching. OVERVIEW ABOUT MICRO TEACHING

Lecturer Mr. Lachel Ardi Rupin He is a novel lecturer at MSU Penang. This is my first semester having him as lecturer, and he has been formed as instructor for this Microteaching subject. An aesthetically pleasing lecturer originally from Kiulu, Sabah. Nonetheless, he is a skilled lecturer when it comes to delivering his lessons. I never missed a single class of his because none of them bored me. I am extremely grateful to have Mr. Lachel as my instructor and hope to have him as my lecturer in future semesters.

Week 1 R e f l e c t i o n s 16/2/2023-17/2/2023 Icebreaking session What is MicroTeaching? Assessment briefing Portfolio introduction Purpose of learning

Reflection 1 Today is the very first Micro-Teaching period. Both the topics and the lecturer are novel to me. My lecturer conducted an ice-breaker session before we began the class. I acquire about my lecturer's professional experiences and what he expects from us as students. He also explained what Micro-Teaching is and why it is important in my education as a TESL student. Following that, the subject's SOW includes assessment details such as Project 1, Project 2, Test 1, and Test 2. Most importantly, portfolio information. My lecturer gave us several examples of how a portfolio should be done by referring to prior students' work. Furthermore, instruction for Test 1. Due to this subject does not include final examinations, we will probably be taking two tests, the first of which will be in week 5. EED21604 7 Thursday, February 16th 2023

Reflection 2 In today's class, I was given an overview to the first topic, which was the differences between teaching and microteaching. Based on my understanding, teaching is a form of variable role for a teacher to provide knowledge using appropriate teaching methods and aids. When comes to micro-teaching is a module for those teachers to learn what are the techniques, strategies that we could utilise in a real classroom for keep the students engaging. The project briefing comes next. Students in project 1 are expected to work in groups of five to develop a 21st century educational board game that integrates four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Furthermore, Project 2 entails having a mock teaching session with our classmates in which they act as students and we, as presenters, act as teachers. Both tasks must make use of the KSSM/CEFR Curriculum in any forms. In addition, for today's lesson, I learned about the teaching processes, as well as various types of micro teaching and their principles.. EED21604 8 Friday, February 17th 2023

Week 2 23/2/2023-24/2/2023 Teaching and learning objectives Importance of Lesson planning Exercise for ABCD Unit plan template Creativity in Teaching R e f l e c t i o n s

Reflection 3 EED21604 8 In today's class, about the importance of lesson planning. Based on my understanding, lesson plan is a basement for designing a curriculum on what students must learn on each day lessons. Planning a good lesson helps us to organize the flow of the lesson and end up it is categorised as discipline while teaching. My lecturer taught us various characteristics, levels, elements, and educational objectives. Besides, I learnt about what is creativity in teaching and why as a teacher needs creativity in teaching. Based on my understanding, creativity affects in many criteria such as personality. Having a creativity mindset, we manage to think about things in different perspectives. Not only that, I managed to differentiate the differences between teaching and micro teaching. Whereby teaching is sharing the knowledge with learners and micro teaching attending programs to enhance our teaching process and to work on become an effective teacher. Friday, February 23rd 2023

Reflection 4 In today's class, , we learnt about unit planning. A unit plan is an overview of one topic in your curriculum. It encompasses key components of content to be covered and student learning outcomes. My lecturer taught us what are differences between daily lesson plan, weekly, unit, term, and yearly lesson plans. Besides, we also learnt topic 2 teaching and learning objectives. On to this topic, we learnt about components of a learning objective statement and LO by interpreting CS and LS based on the steps provided. Basically, based on my understanding, this topic is for understand the benefits of these three elements for a teacher to comprehend before writing a lesson plan. Each of these elements we shall have to refer to the bloom’s taxonomy’s levels. As a teacher it is very important to practice those BT criteria before preparing a lesson plan. Also, for better understanding, MR. Lachel gave us a discussion question exercises on how to arrange the ABCD when learning objectives’ these exercises made us to think wisely and arranged correctly according to the statements. 8 EED21604 Friday, February 24th 2023

Week 3 R e f l e c t i o n 2/3/2023-3//3/2023 Learning Styles VAK Essay Writing CIT Essay Writing discussion Effective SetInduction Activites preparation

Reflection 5 EED21604 8 Thursday 2nd March 2023 In this morning class, we had our regular previous knowledge session, and then my lecturer assigned us an individual task to discuss the importance of Creativity in teaching. It was a 20-mark essay writing question with a time limit of 20-30 minutes. My instructor told us about the aspects that should be included in an essay, such as an introduction, three body paragraphs with appropriate examples, and a conclusion paragraph. In addition, I looked to my notes, gathered essential topics, and wrote my essay. I was able to think in a variety of ways in order to illustrate my views using examples. We resumed our regular class learning after finishing the essay. The topic of study for today was VAK learning styles; visual, auditory, and kinaesthetic (hands on). Based on my understanding of this lesson, as a prospective teacher, it is critical for me to keep track of how my students acquire academic learning. Each student will have preferences for the learning environment, the atmosphere, and the way learning is accomplished using the three learning styles. Here are the images, as well as a summary of my understanding. ALL ROUNDER. Gestures, facial expressions, graphics, colors, highlights points, drawing pictures. Good at SPEAKING and presenting. Think rather than pictures. Mnemonic/ Peg memeory sysytem and verbal analogies. HANDS ON. Point while reading, hands up even they not sure with answers. Drama , role-play, memorize and drill while moving.

EED21604 8 Reflection 6 Friday 3rd March 2023 Mr. Lachel distributed the essay-marked paper in today's class. My essay grade is 14.5 out of 20. My lecturer advised me on how to improve my essay writing, such as providing an outline of the topic on which I am writing and elaborating in the second and third paragraphs. In addition, my conclusion might be expanded upon and recap my introduction. All these notes will be useful for my next essay writings. Following that, we returned to lesson learning on subject set induction. One of the most important components of lesson planning is set induction. It is where we create and construct a foundation for pupils to stay focused on the topic while simultaneously gaining their focus. Many anticipatory sets on introducing the topic exist, including visual factual, meaningful, baffling, and techniques. Set induction is an effective strategy for building on prior lessons and connecting them to current sessions. In addition, my lecturer taught us how to grab attention in set induction by using various examples of videos. Following that, in groups of five, we need to discuss and devise four set induction tactics for each of two tasks. We chose the topic money for Form 1. I've attached a picture of our discussion.

Week 4 9/3/2023-10/3/2023 Stimulus Variations Skills of Stimulus Variation Factors for students attention Board game preparations Verbal and Non=verbal communication R e f l e c t i o n s

My lecturer offered us some prior knowledge questions about set induction strategies in this morning class. I've responded to a few of the questions. Then, in today's session, we'll be studying about stimulus variation. This lecture is pretty fascinating and makes the information easy to understand. Adapting the learning is another term for stimulus variation (SV). Teachers who use SV to improve children's learning and techniques to keep students' attention. Furthermore, my lecturer demonstrated the jam board, which is one of the fascinating online board games that keeps students engaged. Furthermore, there are numerous instructional approaches that create and sustain students' attention, including mannerism, personality, media, and resources. In SV, the main characteristics to attract students' attention are intensity, contrast, movement, audio-visual aids, and teacher attitude. Furthermore, there are eight SV component skills that my instructor demonstrated to us using two different video references. This video references would undoubtedly be beneficial to me during my mock teaching. After the lesson ended, we are in a group of 3 given a task to Identify a topic of your interest and discuss on how you would deliver the topic to your peers. EED21604 8 Thursday 9th March 2023 Reflection 7 My Task member, Shavinaa is presenting.

EED21604 8 Friday 10th March 2023 Reflection 8 My group and I were prepping for our next week's board game activity during today's first hour of evening class. This board game was created for our project 1 job A 21st educational game. We made a black and red checkers gaming board. We painted many mahjong papers and cardboards with different colours. We request an excuse from our lecturer for arriving late to class. After that, we returned to class. My instructor informed us about the test 1 subjects on which we would be focusing throughout the first hour. Then, in class, we concentrated on verbal and nonverbal communication. Speaking, listening, and nervousness, in my opinion, are all forms of communication. In communication, there are two classification methods: sympathetic and empathic. Empathy is a personal sensation, whereas sympathy is a feeling for someone. Individual brainstorming is the next step in communication. This notion has two advantages: unfettered flow of thoughts and strategic and comparative judgements.

Week 5 16/3/2023-17/3/2023 MicroTeaching Test Task A Demonstrations 5O Objectives Questions 9 A.M- 10 A.M. Classmates ' group presentations. My group presentation; The checkers. R e f l e c t i o n s

Reflection 9 Thursday 16th March 2023 Today is our test 1 day. The test starts at 9:15 a.m. There were 50 MCQs in all, with a time limit of one hour. I answered all the questions in the time frame given to me. Since everything was taken from notes, the questions were fairly direct. This are my notes for my group's presentation tomorrow. I jotted down some ideas from the prior groups. My workmates and I decided to let the students play our board instead of explaining the lesson plan or the presentation part. This is a photo of Group 2's presentation for Project 1, Task A. Their aim for presenting their board game was excellent. Under the mystery box section, I found it pretty unclear, and I wish they would let us to play it so that we could gain a better understanding. This is a photo of the group 1 presentation for project 1, Task A. They all gave excellent presentations, and I even got to participate in their board game activity. 8 EED21604

Reflection 10 Friday 17th March 2023 We have no lessons this week, it will be entirely about presentations. Almost every group was able to present their project 1, Task A today. My group is the fourth group and the second group for today. In conclusion, we utilised checkers as our board game, as we usually do with the checker's coin but in our game, we replaced the human being within the box. As you can see in the photo, we designed big boxes and divided 5-5 players into two groups: group red and group black. Each group will have a leader, as the leaders will be the hands that move the coins. Essentially, the leaders are the actual players who cut the human coins to win. Those that are eliminated from the game must choose a language skill and complete the tasks accordingly. Limitations: Time durations. Initially, we intended to place 10 players in each row. But there is not enough room, so we have to cut five guys from each team. Rearranging this thing took a long time, and we were unable to complete all the activities we had planned. Picture from group 3's presentation.

Week 6 23/3/2023-24/3/2023 TOPIC 5 DEBATE DAY Questioning matrix Questioning techniques Topic: Should there be free college education? R e f l e c t i o n s Team: government. TEST 1 QUESTION DISCUSSION

Reflection 11 Thursday 23rd March 2023 Before we began the lesson today, my lecturer provided us the test 1 percentages. I received 11% out of a possible 15%. That makes me very happy, but I still want to improve and do better in the forthcoming test 2. We then went over the test question paper. Some of the portions are correct, but I also made some unintentional errors. I've written it down in order to do better in test 2. In addition, we started topic 5 today, which is questioning techniques. This topic is all about how we can address student questions. There are three basic types: when students answer, when students ask questions, and when students do not respond. likewise, the question matrix is a fantastic approach plan for how to plan and address students' questions, particularly when using Bloom's Taxonomy levels. REINFORCEMENTS MANAGERIAL PROBING RHETORICAL

Reflection 12 Friday 24th March 2023 Today is the tutorial day. My instructor assigned us a few education-related issues for debate in this afternoon class. Mr. Lachel split us into two groups: the government and the opposition. I have chosen for government team to argue the question "Should there be free college education?" Each team should have three members and debate the supplied topic. Unfortunately, my team only has two players, but the opposing team has three. Our debate is focused on agreeing on this assertion. I have gathered some credible evidence to support up my claims. There is also another team that debated the topic "Is a college degree worth accumulating student loan debt?" Their debate was pretty intriguing, with many useful points. Personally, I agreed with the opposing team. • It benefits pupils • It promotes society ' s understanding of our country ' s history and economy. • It is a positive step forward, as many other countries have instituted free education. • Improves equality.

Week 7 30/3/2023-31/3/2023 TOPIC 6 TOPIC 7 Reinforcers Reinforcement strategies Teaching aids language learning. R e f l e c t i o n s GROUP DISCUSSIONS / TASKS

Reflection 13 Thursday 30th March 2023 We learned about reinforcement tactics in today's class. Reinforcement is the process of strengthening knowledge in order to get pupils to pay attention in class. Positive, negative, reinforcers, and punishment are the four types of reinforcements. As a future teacher, these reinforcement methods would be beneficial in controlling my class because it reduces lost instructional time due to behavioral concerns, increases student involvement, and improves the classroom environment. Furthermore, reinforcers are the major strategy that we use to approach children, such as verbal praises, attention (high-fives, hugs), and giving them free time for things they accomplished in class task.

Reflection 14 Friday 31st March 2023 This topic is all about distinctive teaching aids that help teachers make the lesson more exciting for their pupils to learn, such as photos, flash cards, and charts. There are numerous jobs that my lecturer educated us about in this topic. To begin with, instructional aids help us remember the lesson, inspire us, and improve what we see and hear. Using instructional aids boosts students' vocabulary development and creates a more enthusiastic environment by directing experiences to students. Visual aids, audio aids, and visual-audio aids are the three categories of teaching tools that help pupils learn. Following our lesson, we had a group task, of offering 5 examples of teaching aids in the virtual classroom. We have given a few platforms such as Prezi, augmented reality, Blooket, interactive whiteboard, and video conferencing.

Week 8 6/4/2023-7/4/2023 BLOG PREPARATI ONS TEST 2 PREPARATI ONS Form 3, wonders of nature Educational activities Topic: 4,5,6 R e f l e c t i o n s MID-TERM HOLIDAY

Reflection 15 Thursday 6th April 2023 This is my midterm break. I spent the entire week preparing for Project 1 Task B educational blog. This instructional blog is based on Task A, which covers four language skills. As part of my contribution to Task A, I prepared the board game because there are four language skills but we are in a group of five. As a result, in Task B, I took on the entire blog design, and my members assisted me in finding our relevant activities and websites to insert the activities. Al though it was pretty stressful to create a blog, but I did it. I watched various YouTube videos and have previous experience utilising this blog platform in the previous semester. I did my best to develop something related to our theme, natural wonders (Form 3).

Reflection 16 Friday 7th April 2023 I used my class time today to study for Test 2. My lecturer provided us some test preparation tips. Topics 4-6 are covered. I was able to make a handwritten note to help me comprehend better. It is also my strength because I am not a digital learner; I prefer taking notes on paper, using highlighters and colored markers, and retaining them in my brain.

Reflection 19 The final two chapters are covered in today's afternoon class. Topic 8: closure in a lesson. This topic discusses the significance of closing in each lesson. We watched a video about closure on what we should and should not do. Essentially, a lesson closure is a moment for students to cool down, analyse their work, and assess their understanding. Closing is important before, during, and after a lesson. My instructor also taught us how to design fun closures with examples of activities, my favourite of which is thumbs up/thumbs down. Following by, topic 9: use of white/black board in classroom. In this topic we learnt what are the benefits and roles of whiteboard and blackboard. We learnt what are ways to organize on a white and black board such as; date, day, page, vocabulary of the day, learning objective, topic, homework, and grammar of the day. In this way students could stay in track on what are they actually going to learn today and even they are not really sure on which part is teacher focusing, this information in white/blackboard helps them to understand. Week 14 19/5/2023 R e f l e c t i o n s Final Week: MOCKTEACHIG

Today is my mock teaching turn. My turn is the twenty-first. There were 5 teachers teaching before me. I was anxious as well as excited to present and deliver the lesson I had planned for students. Actually, my turn was meant to be on the 37th. Due to the diploma graduation of some of the progressing students, my friend Yashwini requested that her turn be swapped with mine. I agreed to the request in order to finish my mock teaching earlier. I prepared everything needed for my mock teaching the day before, such as manilla cards, mah-jong paper, flash cards, and CCTV. The lesson I chose for teaching is unit 9; high-tech world and grammar lesson. I felt confident enough to deliver the lesson because I had previously conducted a sample teaching on the same subject and everything went well. Another reason for selecting this grammar and topic is because this grammar passive voice; gerunds is a fresh lesson for everyone. My tutoring centre’s syllabus provided me with the opportunity to study this grammar. Before I prepared the lesson for them, I thought this grammar was new and difficult to teach, but once I understood it, it was a really simple and easy lesson to deliver. I am grateful for this opportunity, and I completed the lesson in the time allotted to me, and they all appreciated it as well. My lecturer was also happy, as i got the feedback from him.
