TEAM MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

MOLLY MCCOURT | SCHOOL ADVANCEMENT

Molly McCourt joined the CMH Advancement Team this year as the Admissions Associate. She
was a natural fit with previous experience as an undergraduate academic advisor for UW-
Milwaukee and family ties to CMH, as her husband Jamie McCourt is a 2004 graduate. As the
Admissions Associate, she helps to welcome our incoming freshman families to Catholic
Memorial and guides them through tuition assistance and WPCP financial pathways.
Additionally, she works on recruitment events, school outreach and leads the shadow program
for 7th and 8th graders to experience what a day as a CMH student is really like. Molly has been
a great addition to CMH with her welcoming and positive energy.

“There is something special about the energy in the halls and classrooms of Catholic Memorial.
Everyone here finds ways to make others feel sincerely welcome, and I love extending that
same warmth to new families through my job as Admissions Associate.” - Molly McCourt

BRAD YOUNG ʼ98 | ACADEMIC RESOURCE CENTER

This may be Brad Young’s first year at Catholic Memorial as a Learning Resource Specialist, but
he is no stranger to CMH. He is a CMH graduate from the class of 1998 and has been involved at
the school, often lending his support to the football team, alongside his father, current CMH
varsity football coach and faculty member, Bill Young. Brad is an integral part of the academic
support structure for students. He works with students in the Academic Resource Center (ARC)
during study halls to help with questions and assist with accommodations for testing,
assignments, studying and more. He also leads the expanded support program for students
during their sophomore, junior and senior years to guide college and career research and
develop successful study skills and effective note taking habits.
“Being able to work with students at CMH, in the same seats that I once sat in, and help
support them in their future endeavors means the world to me. It is so encouraging as a
teacher to see students everyday that want to learn and are so engaged.” - Brad Young ’98

TIM NORGAL | STEM PROGRAM

Tim Norgal joined CMH this year as the newest faculty member in the STEM program. Tim is a
current CMH parent (Leah ’23), alumni parent (Trevor ’06, Kelsey ’10 and Jared ’14) and is
married to current CMH math department teacher, Marie Norgal. His professional background
and connection to CMH has helped him fit in seamlessly. He teaches the Engineering Design
and Development course, guiding students to develop, create and market a new product that
solves a problem they have identified in the world. Tim has already established himself as an
amazing teacher and mentor to his students.

“The sense of community at CMH is exceptional. It is unlike anything anywhere I have ever
witnessed. The faculty stay at Memorial their entire career because there is a difference in the
culture. Generations of former students show an ageless adoration to the school. As a parent, I
have watched this remarkable culture and its positive impact upon my own children. Truly,
everyone who has ever been in the building cares about anyone who has ever been in the
building. It is something amazing. Something difficult to explain, something you come to feel.
Many years ago, my wife was pushing hard on the idea that our children attend Catholic
education. I remember debating with her… how will I know if it is worth it? In that
conversation, she wisely said, “…you won’t know, until the end.” She was right. Catholic
education is a challenging decision and in the end the value is exceptional. Catholic Memorial
is a special place. I consider it a great privilege to be invited to share my life’s experience with
today’s students. My goal is to guide them in achieving the best in academics as well as in
building skills that will help them become responsible adults prepared for the global
8 economy.” - Tim Norgal

SCHOOL HAPPENINGS

fCoMrHthRee4ctohgCnoiznesdeacus tTiovpe YSeTaErM! School in the Nation
Catholic Memorial made headlines in the fall for being
recognized as a top STEM school in the nation for the fourth
consecutive year! CMH was honored as a Project Lead the Way (PLTW)
Distinguished School for providing broad access to transformative
learning opportunities for students through Computer Science,
Biomedical Science and Engineering. CMH has continued to expand
the STEM program offerings including added Biomedical Science
and Computer Science courses for students interested in the medical
and information technology fields. Catholic Memorial is one of just
209 schools across the United States and one of only 22 high schools
in Wisconsin to receive the honor. Even more impressive, CMH is
one of only two schools in Wisconsin to earn the honor for a fourth
consecutive year.

CMH’s TributLeoCsetroenmSoenpytetomHboenro1r1T, 2h0o0s1e
The entire student body, faculty and staff came together to
honor those lost on September 11, 2001. Students tied red,
white and blue ribbons to a banner that represented every

life lost during the attacks, which was then lifted to hang
across the top of the school. The ceremony continued with

the national anthem, color guard, prayer and an inspiring
message shared by Katie Warns Riesch ’98 in honor of her
brother, Robert Warns ’99, who died in service to our country

following the September 11th attacks. The ceremony
finished with students placing a wreath by the Memorial
Wall in honor of the 29 servicemen that the school stands
as a Living Memorial, followed by the entire group joining

together to sing “God Bless America.”

Junior Crusader Pom & Dance Team
The newest addition to the Junior Crusaders programs at CMH
kicked off with a great fall season. The dancers on our Junior
Crusaders team wowed audiences with their entertaining
performances at the Junior Crusaders Football games, along
with an outstanding routine at Carroll University during a
Varsity Football game. The girls kept the excitement going and
extended their season to perform at the Girls Varsity Basketball
Games.

Catholic Memorial students were given a very unique
opportunity this past fall, as the school hosted a nationally
recognized speaker on technology and innovation, Dr. Rob
Atkinson.
Dr. Atkinson is the President and CEO of the world renowned
and top think tank, ITIF (Information Technology and
Innovation Foundation) in Washington D.C. In December of
2019, ITIF collaborated with the Brookings Institute to publish
a study that identified Southeastern WI as the next location to
become the tech hub of the Midwest.
Dr. Atkinson made a special visit to CMH after the recent
recognition as a top STEM school in the US, to speak with our
students about his research, career path and what IT businesses
are looking for in young professionals. The group discussion
was dynamic and our students impressed Dr. Atkinson with
their career-minded and thoughtful-provoking questions.

Open House

The CMH Open House was an amazing success with a huge
turnout! Hundreds of Future Crusaders were in attendance
along with their families, eager to meet our dynamic teachers,

legendary coaches, inspiring club leaders and welcoming
students and parents. Everyone left amazed after touring
the school, learning more about the unmatched academics,
championship athletics, award-winning performing arts,
elevating clubs and so much more. The building was packed the

entire day and the energy was unbelievable.
A very special thank you to the volunteers who helped make this

event so wonderful, we couldn’t do it without you!

CMH Girls Tennis State Champions!
The Crusader Girls Tennis team finished their
season on the highest of high notes this past fall,
as State Champions! Their impressive showing in
the post season at regionals and sectionals had
them named as a top contender for state, and
they did not disappoint. At the state semifinals,
they pulled together a commanding victory, 6-1,
over Xavier High School, followed by a repeat, 6-1,
finals victory over Regis High School. Their “team
first” mentality shined the entire season and we
couldn’t be happier for this outstanding group!

CMH Girls Rugby State Champions!
The Crusader Girls Rugby team came away
with an undefeated season, finishing as State
Champions. The championship game was a
clash of the titans, as CMH took on longtime
rival, DSHA. The Crusaders pulled together to
overtake DSHA’s early lead in the first half for a
21-17 victory. Congratulations to the players,
coaches and parents on such an amazing
accomplishment!

CrusaderaFsoSottabtaellCThharmeeppioeantss!
The icy temperatures at Camp Randall Stadium during the

State Championship game couldn’t stop our Crusaders
from finishing their undefeated season with a threepeat
State Title! The offense started strong with a quick 21-0
first quarter lead and Ellsworth fought back, responding

with two touchdowns, but failed to convert both two-
point conversion attempts to make it 21-12 at the half.
The second half was a defensive battle back and forth,
and the Crusaders showed their grit, holding their lead
to come away with the 21-12 victory as the final second
ticked away. What an amazing feat by our entire program,
congratulations to the players, coaches, parents and fans

on an incredible undefeated season!

Crusader Day of Service
The Wednesday before Thanksgiving was an inspiring day
filled with positivity and love as our CMH students, faculty,
staff, parents and alumni came together for the 8th Annual
Crusader Day of Service. Everyone joined forces to support
Waukesha and the greater community, supporting over 15
nonprofits and charitable organizations. Projects included:
packing lunches for the Street Angels, organizing packages
for veterans, tying fleece blankets for those affected by the
Waukesha Christmas parade tragedy, writing cards for teens
dealing with mental health issues through NAMI, making a
carry out Thanksgiving dinner for the community, and much
more. It was an amazing day that showcased our school’s
motto of Caritas In Omnibus “Charity in All Things”! A very
special thank you to the donors and volunteers that made
this day possible!

National Catholic Youth Conference
Our students and faculty ventured to Indianapolis, IN to
participate in the National Catholic Youth Conference.
The group had a phenomenal time listening to amazing
speakers, praying and meeting other groups from
around the country. It was an enlightening experience
for the students and group leaders to attend this
outstanding event to deepen their faith.

Prayer Service PafatreardWeaTurakgeeshday
The entire Catholic Memorial community combined

with Waukesha Catholic to host a prayer service
following the tragic events at the Waukesha

Christmas parade. CMH Chaplain, Fr. Mark, Waukesha
Catholic Pastor, Fr. Matthew, and St. Anthony on the

Lake Pastor, Fr. Tony concelebrated a wonderful Mass
to help start the healing process for everyone. The

outpouring of support for those affected continues to
showcase the power of our CMH family, exemplifying

#WaukeshaStrong.

CMH Fall Production, “Farce of Nature”
The Fall Production of, “Farce of Nature,” was
a huge success. The cast and crew wowed
audiences all weekend long. Laughter could be
heard throughout the school as our students
took the stage and dazzled everyone with their
comedic stylings.

CMH SWEETHEARTS

Louise Kissinger Vitale ’56 & Joe Vitale ’56

Did you date in high school? Did you reconnect after high school?
Louise and I both attended St. Joseph’s grade school in Waukesha. We were strictly
classmates in grade school, our parents knew each other before Louise and I even
knew each other. I asked Louise to the Easter Dance at CMH on April 11, 1955. I
remember that date as it was her mom’s birthday. After the Easter dance we became

“a couple”. We dated all through college and planned to
get married following my graduation from Carroll
College on June 11, 1961.
What year did you get married? Were there any
CMH alumni in or at your wedding?
We were married on June 17, 1961. Pat Pucci Bethke
’56, Don Natalizio ’56, Tony Natalizio ’59 and Vic Bartoli
’59 were all in our wedding. Dick Roberts and Carol Mlodzik Roberts were great friends from St.
Joseph’s that were even there.
What is your connection to Catholic
Memorial since graduating?
We have stayed close to CMH in sundry ways. I
have served on different committees over the
years. We are loyal spectators, donors, alumni
parents and alumni grandparents. I was
honored to receive several awards from CMH
including the CMH Loyalty Awards in 1998,
Outstanding Alumni of the Year in 2006, and was inducted into the Athletic Hall
of Fame in 2016. We have a pretty long line of children and grandchildren that
have graduated, coached and taught at Catholic Memorial through the years
as well. Our three sons attended CMH, Joe ’81 his wife Kelly Eder Vitale ’83,
Robert ’83 and his wife Amy Hunt Vitale ’83, and Thomas ’85. We also have
three amazing grandchildren who also graduated from CMH, Nick Vitale ’12,
Anna Vitale ’13 and Elizabeth Vitale ’17.

Tom Schmitzer ’89 & Sheilah Keyes Schmitzer ’89

Did you date in high school? Did you reconnect after high school?
Tom and I met freshman year at CMH but did not start dating until our first class together which was junior year Chemistry.
Then, we dated long distance while Sheilah attended St. Mary’s of Notre Dame and Tom attended UW Madison.
We continued our long-distance relationship throughout Sheilah’s graduate school and Tom’s law school.

What year did you get married? Were there any CMH alumni
in or at your wedding?
We dated 10 years before we married on June 6, 1998. There were many CMH
teachers, alumni family, and friends who attended our wedding. Father James
Loehr, our CMH Principal, married us and then also baptized our four children.
What is your connection to Catholic Memorial since graduating?
Our family is very connected to Catholic Memorial. Tom and I both have siblings
that graduated from CMH, my four sisters and Tom’s sister, so we have strong
family ties to CMH. Our oldest son, Tommy, is a 2020 CMH Alumni and attends the
University of Notre Dame. Jack is a current CMH senior, and Maggie is a current
CMH Sophomore. Our youngest Will is a sixth grader at Waukesha Catholic and
plans on attending CMH. Sheilah serves on the CMH Mother’s Club, teaches at
Waukesha Catholic, and works with several CMH teachers and students in the
Tutoring Program for Waukesha Catholic students. Tom currently serves on the CMH Facilities Committee. We have always
enjoyed attending CMH sporting and social events throughout all the years!

Jack Riesch ’96 & Katie Warns Riesch ’98

Did you date in high school? Did you reconnect after high school?
Jack and I first “met” when I was 5 years old, the Warns family moved onto Cavalier Drive in 1985, and the Riesch’s were our across
-the-street neighbors. Dating in high school was not a thought, as Jack was just the upperclassman that was tasked with driving
me to school. We spoke very little on those car rides to school! Eventually I was able to drive, and Jack graduated and moved to
Chicago. A few summers later we reconnected at his sister’s graduation party and we made plans to attend a Chicago Cub’s
game… the following summer we got engaged.

What year did you get married? Were there any CMH alumni in or at your wedding?
Jack and I married on September 27th, 2003. We were married at St. Mary’s Waukesha. Bryon
Riesch ’97, Dan Knapp ’97, Jess Albrecht ’98, Bobby Warns ’99, Stephanie Riesch-Knapp ’01,
and Mikey Riesch ’05 were in our wedding party. Countless CMH alumni and alumni parents
attended the wedding.

What is your connection to Catholic Memorial since graduating?
Since graduating, our relationship with Catholic Memorial has continued in ways we never
imagined. We have supported the CMH community through volunteering and attending
events, and the CMH community has supported us. When the unimaginable occurred in 1998,
2004, and 2014 – we were overwhelmed with the support of the Catholic Memorial community.
1998 brought a tragic accident that paralyzed Jack’s brother Bryon, 2004 brought Operation
Iraqi Freedom where my brother Bobby lost his life as a Marine, and 2014 brought a lost battle
with cancer for Jack’s brother Mikey. During each of these events, we were surrounded by the
CMH community and felt incredibly grateful for
the love, support and prayer.

Our connections with the CMH community have also been uplifting, continuing to
show up around every corner. Attending parties where dozens of couples are
married alumni, attending soccer games where half of the team are alumni
off-spring, and working along-side numerous fellow alumni at R&R Insurance.
Two of our three children attend St. Anthony on the Lake school in Pewaukee,
where the CMH alumni community is alive and thriving. I took on the role as CMH
alumni and internship coordinator at the beginning of 2021, and our oldest
daughter joined the class of 2025 at CMH this past August. Our kids will be
walking these halls until 2029.

Looking back to 1996 when Jack was a freshman, never did we imagine the
incredible ways CMH would touch our lives
