At Catholic Memorial High School, we expect our students to achieve more
than they ever imagined. We challenge each young adult who enters our doors
to continuously grow academically, emotionally and spiritually. Our exemplary
academic programs compel students to elevate themselves intellectually. Our
championship-level athletics, award-winning theatre program and various
extracurriculars drive students to perform at their very best. We inspire and
educate in faith. It is through these faith-based principles our students develop
as leaders, as scholars and as contributors to society. This is how we help our
students rise to every challenge and overcome every obstacle. Here, students
become the very best version of themselves, fully prepared for lifelong success.
And at Catholic Memorial, we expect nothing less.

1

Our Mission

At Catholic Memorial High School, we EDUCATE students as individuals, intellectually
and spiritually. We GUIDE students to work to their highest, God-given potential.
We PREPARE them for post-secondary education and to become leaders who SERVE
the Church and the world.

RISE WITH US

A LETTER FROM THE CATHOLIC MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL PRESIDENT, DONNA BEMBENEK

It has been an amazing first year for me as President of Catholic Memorial High
School. I am very grateful for the partnership we have with our parents. I am
also inspired by our talented faculty and staff, enthused by the commitment of
our students, and honored by the support of our generous donors. CMH is truly
blessed in many ways.

This past year we celebrated the completion of the new Our Lady of Memorial
Chapel. We cheered on our students in athletics, drama and the arts as they once
again brought home state titles and academic honors. In addition, CMH was named
a School of Distinction in Engineering by Project Lead the Way. We were one of only
133 schools to be honored as such in the country!

I know you share our passion for Catholic Memorial and the life-changing impact of a Catholic
education. If we can ensure access for those families who share this dream – we will create a ripple effect for
generations to come. Access is defined in many ways. One way that is new this year is the announcement of
expanded bus transportation throughout Waukesha County.

Access is also made possible by our generous donors who close the funding gap. Tuition only covers 68% of the

actual cost to provide a Catholic Memorial education. The remaining 32% (the “gap”) is covered by endowment

revenues and annual gifts. We rely on contributions to

help fund teachers’ salaries, instructional programming,

building operations, overall administration and tuition

“I f we can ensure access for those assistance.
families who share this dream – A major initiative this past year, was the completion of a

throughout this study was that at CMH we inspire and

educate in faith. It is through these faith-based principles

our students develop as leaders, as scholars and as

contributors to society. Here, students become the very

best version of themselves, fully prepared for lifelong success. And at Catholic Memorial, we expect nothing less.

WHERE YOU RISE is our new tag line. Each CMH graduate is empowered with the ability to rise to every
challenge and overcome every obstacle. They will carry on after CMH with conviction, knowing that they have
the skills and abilities to pursue their dreams – grounded in faith, to serve God and our world.

Throughout this annual report you will be inspired by individual stories about how graduates rose above
obstacles and achieved their dreams because of CMH!

Thank you for your warm welcome this year and for your continued commitment to helping CMH deliver on its
mission. We could not accomplish all that we have, and all that we will, without you.

Our Lady of Memorial, pray for us!

Donna Bembenek
President

A LETTER FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS CHAIR, ANN MARIE WICK

Thankful. As I look back on my term as Chair of the Catholic Memorial Board
of Directors, this word summarizes my experience. Catholic Memorial is a
remarkable community.

We are blessed by our students, families, faculty and staff, alumni, and
community. Our compassionate teachers and staff are dedicated to elevating our
students to their highest level of achievement in their God-given talents. Our
faculty and staff are remarkable, but it does take a village. Each student at Catholic
Memorial is supported by a community of caring supporters like you – parents,
grandparents, alumni and other benefactors who believe every child should have
access to a premier Catholic education. Like you, they believe in sharing their blessings
so future generations of Crusaders can live out the Catholic Memorial mission of being men
and women of Christ who have a commitment and a desire to serve the Church and the world.

During my tenure, I have had the privilege of seeing firsthand the direct impact your support produces. Our
students come to Catholic Memorial as children, unsure of their calling, still seeking their God-given potential.
They leave as young adults, excited and well-prepared for the future, confident in their beliefs and rooted in their
faith. Catholic Memorial is truly a place Where You Rise. Our graduates go on to succeed at top universities, excel
in their careers and vocations and make a positive impact as servant leaders in a world that desperately needs
them. You’ll read about just a few of them on the pages of this annual report.

As an alumna, I am constantly reminded how blessed I am “Our students come to Catholic
for the gift of my Catholic Memorial education. It has also Memorial as children … They
been an honor to support our community through some leave as young adults, excited
notable transformations with the appointment of President
Donna Bembenek, Principal Laura Anderson and Chaplain and well-prepared for the future,
Fr. John Gibson, construction of Our Lady of Memorial confident in their beliefs and
chapel, completion of the Crusading for Excellence rooted in their faith.”
campaign and preparation for our next strategic plan to set
the course for supporting our future Crusaders.

On behalf of the students, my fellow Board members,
and the faculty and staff, thank you for all that you do to
support our young people and the future of Catholic Memorial. We are on a great trajectory. With gratitude, I ask
you to continue to bless Catholic Memorial with your prayers and your support so our students continue to rise.
Please join me in spreading the word about Catholic Memorial and giving thanks for God’s blessings upon our
community.

Our Lady of Memorial, pray for us!

RISING THROUGH

Faith & Service
Each day, CMH students learn and grow in their faith, so they can face life with the strength and confidence to
serve as disciples and become leaders who serve the Church and the world. The Our Lady of Memorial Chapel
was blessed in 2018 and provides a space for weekly class Masses. In addition, students attend monthly

AELEESA MEDINA ’16

FOLLOWING HER CALLING

Aeleesa Medina, Class of 2016, found her calling during a CMH
pilgrimage to the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia. It
was there she says she blossomed into a “whole person” and
realized her future would be in service to others. Aeleesa is
currently studying Spanish and public health. Her goal is to
become a medical interpreter, helping eliminate barriers for
those struggling to access adequate healthcare.

DRIVEN TO SUCCEED

Siblings Aaron and Paige Siehr grew up appreciating the sacrifices their parents made
to send them to Catholic grade school. When their father passed away, a CMH
education was in jeopardy. “If it weren’t for the tuition assistance options offered, we
wouldn’t have been able to go to CMH,” Paige said. Now in his senior year at UW-
Madison, Aaron added, “CMH provides a rigorous course load like a university’s. I
learned time management, organization, writing skills and professionalism – and my
teachers at CMH expected that of me.”

While at CMH, Max Mutza was involved in numerous activities – Campus Ministry,

how to stay on task and strive for achievement in the classroom and outside of it.”
Mutza was also part of an engineering design team that won the 2016 Project
Lead the Way (PLTW) State Championship, an honor that also earned him a full
academic scholarship to Milwaukee School of Engineering.

PAYING IT FOWARD
Alex Dobrinska knows the sacrifice his parents made to provide a CMH education for him and his siblings,
and he recalls vividly how they used an entire week’s wages to pay for the books they needed. Now, at 24,
Alex has found success as a financial planner and is paying it forward, providing three incoming freshmen
with books for the entire year through the Dobrinska Family Scholarship Award he created.
