Strategic Plan Accomplishments

“Our school is strong, and the decisions we make now will set our direction for years to come.”
Catholic Memorial President Donna Bembenek shared this sentiment two years ago about our
strategic plan. Since then, our school has made strides in accomplishing the initiatives and
objectives laid out in that plan thanks to key investments from donors. Fundamental to our plan is
an outstanding and inspiring student experience rooted in our Catholic faith and our reputation for
academic rigor. This summer we’re accomplishing additional strategic plan initiatives ahead of the
2022-2023 school year.

forward-looking 21st-century school that is safe,

amenities needed for success. Updates include

SCHOOL HAPPENINGS

ACrMcHhbCiashthoopliLcisStcehcokoi ls Week Celebration with
In February CMH hosted a Catholic Schools Week Mass with
Archbishop Listecki, bringing together over 1,300 grade
school, middle school and high school students along with
faculty and staff. It was inspiring to celebrate this CMH
tradition, reminding us of our blessings and how grateful
we are to have such a bright future because of this gift of a
Catholic education!

CMH Winter Musical Success!
The CMH Cast and Crew of the Winter Musical,
“Seussical,” wowed audiences for two weekends of
sold-out shows. The talent on stage and behind the
scenes created the magical world of Dr. Seuss that
audiences could not get enough of. The production
was one of the best to-date, and the standing ovations
were well-deserved for the students, parents,
volunteers and friends that put in countless hours to
make this year’s musical such a smashing success.

CMH Class of 2022 Senior Retreat
The CMH Class of 2022 came together to reflect on their
time at Catholic Memorial at their senior class retreat. The
group traveled to Perlstein Retreat Center in Lake Delton
to unplug and focus on bonding as a class. Everyone had
a great experience making memories together to cherish
for a lifetime and growing as individuals emotionally and
spiritually.
A special thanks to the faculty and staff leaders who put
this outstanding retreat together.

41st Annual Crusader Auction
Oh, what a night it truly was! The 41st Annual

Crusader Auction was a wonderful evening
celebrating the CMH community. The night was
filled with energy and Crusader spirit from start
to finish. Guests loved dressing up to celebrate
Proms of the Past, bid on amazing auction items,
participate in the nostalgia with festive games and
more. The support from our CMH community came
through and made it a record-breaking event to

support the school we all love.
A very special thank you to the planning committee,

volunteers, sponsors, attendees and donors that
made this event such a spectacular success!

CMH STEM Challenge
CMH was full of creativity, innovation and collaboration as
over 250 middle school students from 18 private and public
schools throughout Waukesha and Milwaukee County
visited CMH to participate in STEM (science, technology,
engineering and math) activities. The middle schoolers were
broken up into 70 small groups led by our CMH students
and were tasked with the Roller “COA-SADER” Propel STEM
Challenge. Every group was taught Memorial Propel, CMH’s
trademarked design thinking process, and worked together
to create a coaster to compete for the longest timed marble
run. There was cheering and applause that could be heard
throughout the school as the final teams had their last timed
trials. Congratulations to our 1st and 2nd place groups from
St. Mary, Menomonee Falls and St. Anthony on the Lake.
Special thank you to our outstanding sponsors: Aries
Industries Inc., Dedicated Computing and Metal-Era LLC for
making this event such a huge success

2022 Future Leaders Forum
CMH welcomed 100 eager 6th and 7th grade
students for the 2022 Future Leaders Forum! The
group arrived and got right to work participating
in activities that highlighted important leadership
skills including communication, preparation, active
listening, organization, and more. The energy in the
building was amazing as this outstanding group
of students learned about their strengths, grew as

leaders, and made new friends.

Crusader Fest
The 2nd Annual Crusader Fest Event was full of
energy and excitement. We welcomed so many new
families to CMH to participate in fun activities with
our students and meet our legendary coaches and
dynamic club leaders. The cheering and laughter
could be heard above all the music playing as Future
Crusaders of all ages caught touchdown passes with
the football team, scored goals against our soccer
team, clocked their swing with the softball team,
threw their best pitches with baseball, took photos
dressed as their favorite characters with performing
arts, scaled the rock wall with the ski team, helped
with service projects with campus ministry, made
Mother's Day cards and magnets with NHS and so
much more.

Celebrating Lives of Service
The Catholic Memorial family was honored to host the
Celebrating Lives of Service Mass honoring the 29 servicemen
that gave their lives in service to our country and for whom
the school stands as a living memorial. The celebration was
a wonderful event where we welcomed many veterans,
grandparents and special guests for a day focused on the
importance of service and charity.
Special thanks to the Campus Ministry Department and
Advancement Department for organizing and leading this
outstanding event alongside our faculty, staff, students and
volunteers.

CMH’s One Day In May Success

CMH’s One Day in May was a huge success because of the
generosity and support of the CMH community! The virtual
event raised over $175,000! Everyone had a blast the whole

day, celebrating the legacy and supporting the future of
Catholic Memorial.

CMH Class of 2022 Graduation
The CMH family celebrated the Class of 2022 with
the traditional Baccalaureate Mass and Graduation
Ceremony on Friday, May 27th. The graduates
and families were so happy to be together. The
entire InPro Athletic Center was buzzing with
joyful energy as our students walked across the
stage and received their diplomas. We are thrilled
to welcome this wonderful group as the newest
members of the CMH alumni family! Please enjoy
a few of the many impressive stats from this year's
graduating class.

John Bisswurm ’77 and Sally Heck Bisswurm ’81

Did you date in high school? Did you reconnect after high school?
John and I did not date in high school. My senior year John began coaching. We didn’t meet until many years later when we were
introduced by Mark Biebel ’87 and my brother, Tom Heck ’87 in 2001. Mark was a former player of John’s.

What year did you get married? Were there any CMH alumni in or at
your wedding?
We were married in 2002. We had quite a
number of alumni who participated in our
wedding.
John’s siblings: Patty Cattani ’78, Mike ’81,
Teri Bisswurm ’82, Paul ’83, Tim ’84, Cathy
Vogel ’86, Anne Miller ’88, Heidi Semann ’89,
Rob ’96, Jenny Hayes ’99, Tommy ’01,
Elizabeth ’04.
My brothers: Paul Heck ’84 and Tom Heck ’87
Sisters-in-law: Debbie Bisswurm ’84 and
Carla Heck ’84.

What is your connection to Catholic Memorial since graduating?
John has been the boys’ soccer coach since 1980. We’ve attended many auctions
and have been on a variety of committees. Currently I’m on the Parents’ Club
(formerly Mothers’ Club) board. Our son Jack is a 2022 graduate and Max will be a
sophomore this coming school year.

Joe Piette ’89 and Sue Roeske Piette ’89

Did you date in high school? Did you reconnect after high school?
We started dating in February of junior year. One day at school we really got to talking and found ourselves sitting on the steps
chatting away. So much so that we may have missed a class. Not that we condone
that, but we had a pretty good result from it. :) We went to prom that year and never

looked back.
What year did you get married?
Were there any CMH alumni
in or at your wedding?
We were married in September of 1994.
All of my siblings (Therese, Tom, Mary,
Rob, Jeanne) and Jenny Beranek (now
Reidy) were in our wedding and many
other alumni were there! In fact a bunch
of those same alumni were at our twins’
recent CMH graduation party.
What is your connection to Catholic
Memorial since graduating?

Since graduating, we’ve kept in touch with the many good friends we made. We’ve
also seen many of our friends’ kids go through Memorial. And our siblings’ kids went to and are currently attending CMH. We’ve
now had our four kids graduate from CMH and have a connection with so many teachers, staff, and coaches. Through all of this,
we have attended many events through academics, arts, athletics, volunteering and many other get-togethers. We love seeing
staff that we knew back when we went to school and staff that we’ve met over the years. Our parents have also continued to
nurture our connection with CMH - most recently donating my Godfather’s (Father Kaiser) relics to the chapel. Our hearts will
always be grateful to CMH and the many, many blessings and wonderful memories we have from it.

Joe Fleming ’11 and Morgan Wiesner Fleming ’11

Did you date in high school? Did you reconnect after high school?
We dated in high school! We started dating the summer before our junior year, and have been
together ever since! We actually became friends in Ms. Baenan’s Accelerated Algebra class
Freshman year.
What year did you get married? Were there any CMH alumni in or at your wedding?
We got married September 4th, 2021! There
were TONS of CMH people there. We have
stayed very close with many of our classmates
who attended our special day, this includes
CMH’s AD Matt Bergan ’02. Joe and Matt grew
up in the same neighborhood, he has known
Matt since he was little.
What is your connection to Catholic
Memorial since graduating?
Morgan is actually the Varsity Pom and Dance
team head coach! Courteney Krausert ’10 and Morgan coach the team together,
and absolutely love being back at CMH! Joe is the team’s biggest cheerleader!
We also just attended our 10 year reunion!
