Early Life

He studied at the
Lakeside School where
he developed an
interest in computing.
He was just 13 when he
was in high school and
wrote his first software
program on the school’s
computer.

Inspirations

Roberts, whose affordable
build-it-yourself computer
kit, inspired Bill Gates and
his childhood friend Paul
Allen to create Microsoft in
1975 after they saw an
article about the MITS
Altair 8800 in Popular
Electronics.

Beginnings

Gates and Allen approached
MITS with their creation, and
the company agreed to
distribute it as 'Altair BASIC'.
They officially established
Microsoft' on 4 April 1975, with
Gates as the CEO.Bill Gates did
not graduate from Harvard;
instead, he left Harvard during
his junior year to start the
company.

Gates and Allen approached MITS with
their creation, and the company agreed
to distribute it as 'Altair BASIC'. Paul
Allen was hired into MITS, and Gates
took a leave of absence from Harvard to
work with him in Albuquerque in
November 1975. They officially
established Microsoft' on 4 April 1975,
with Gates as the CEO.

Obstacles

Microsoft became a success in the
1980s. Bill Gates struggled with
self-confidence and actually feared
that his business would be a bust.
“Even the idea that Microsoft would
be a big company, I never would
admit that to myself,” Gates said
