Pitching two teams from equivalent leagues against each other to ultimately have bragging rights...and win a trophy! The Big Match isn’t just a rugby game. It’s the reason why I created North Rugby. It’s to give the much needed exposure to the fantastic level of rugby we have in the North. The clubs, the players and the supporters deserve this exposure. Tim Holmes Good Afternoon everybody and welcome to Grove Park, the home of Manchester Rugby Club. For those who don’t know Manchester FC was formed in 1860 and is one of the first two rugby clubs formed in the world. So, it’s fitting that Manchester hosts the first game of its kind in England where the Best of Best from Regional NW 1 take on the Best of Best from Regional NW 2 in what we hope will be an annual game in the Rugby Calendar. We are very honoured to host this game and huge credit must go to Mike Brown for his tireless organisation of this event and his dedication to Regional North Rugby at this level. He has done an amazing job of publicising these leagues and raising the profile of the excellent rugby we have in the North. Well done Mike! Today we have over a dozen clubs represented in the game with players coming from far and wide to make this event happen. Thanks must go to the players for their commitment in the off-season and to the coaches of both teams. You’ll notice a new building in our stadium. This is MRC’s new changing room facility and after over a decade of fundraising we were awarded a £100,000 grant from the RFU as part of the RWC2025 Impact Programme. This enabled us to build a brand new state of the art facility that will serve the whole club but will enable us to develop the Women’s and Girls game as for the first time we will be able to have Women’s and Men’s Rugby at the club at the same time. A great step forward for the whole club. So, on to the Rugby and we hope you have a good day at Manchester. Here’s hoping for a great game of rugby, no injuries, and a close win for the North West….
