WIAA Fun Facts
The WIAA began sponsoring a softball tournament program in 1976. There was only one class of competition in the rst three years of
the tournament. An A and B division were both added in1979 and 1980, and the C division was added in 1981. Terminology was changed from classes to divisions (1-2-3) in 1991. In 2002, the tournament series expanded to four divisions. Stevens Point leads all programs in State titles won with nine. Kimberly has seven championships and Marion has won six. Both Denmark and Oak eld have won ve championships. Ashwaubenon has won four titles, and Loyal, Pacelli and Poynette have won three championship titles. Stevens

only school that has
won four consecutive titles (2001-04). Schools that have won three consecutive championships in addition to Stevens Point are Ashwaubenon (1992-94), Loyal (1978-80) and Marion (1990- 92). Ashwaubenon and Stevens Point lead all member schools in the number of trips to the State Tournament with 16.

GOODMAN DIAMOND
Located on beautiful Lake Mendota, the Robert and Irwin Goodman Softball Complex o ers the University of Wisconsin softball program state- of-the-art amenities. From the indoor practice facility to the newly resurfaced playing eld, the Badgers are happy to call Goodman Diamond home. The diamond received a total resurfacing during the summer of 2012 with a new in eld and

out eld surface being installed. In 2013 the Goodman Softball Training Center was completed. In the 16,500 square foot indoor facility the Badgers have access to a regulation-sized in eld, batting cages, team conference room and lounge. In addition, the team locker room and athletic training
areas underwent extensive renovations. The rst

Tournament was held in Madison in 1976. Madison West won the championship by defeating Elmwood, 27-8, in the title contest. Waukesha became the site of the State Tournament in 1977, and the tournament was held in that location the next 25 years. The championship moved back to Madison and has been held at UW’s Goodman Diamond
since 2002.
