WIAA Fun Facts
Boys swimming and diving was conducted in a single class until 1993 when a two-division format was adopted. Verona won the rst
Division 2 team championship. Only 4 athletes have won the same individual event four times. Kyle Bubolz of Waukesha North/Kettle Moraine was the rst to do it. He won the Division 1 50-yard freestyle from 2001-2004. Ryan Je erson of Edgewood accomplished the feat in the diving competition, winning the Division 2 titles from 2003-2006. Alex DeLakis of Eau Claire Memorial/North was a four- time Division 1 champion in the 100 yard breaststroke. In 2015, Joe Kaszubowski of White sh Bay became the fourth individual

title in the Division
2 diving competition. Madison Memorial has won the most State event titles with 84, surpassing Waukesha for that distinction in 2014. Waukesha, before it split into three schools, recorded 77 individual and relay championships. Madison West has had 64 champions and Wauwatosa crowned 61 champs before forming separate programs.

UW Natatorium
In the heart of campus along the shores of beautiful Lake Mendota, the “Nat” features an eight-lane, 25-yard pool that is equipped with a Colorado Timing System and an eight-lane digital readout score board. Pool depth ranges from 4.5 to 7.5 feet. The competition pool is kept at a temperature of 80°F while the 12.5 foot deep diving well is kept at a toasty

89°F. The WIAA goes back to 1925 to determine the beginning of its Boys Swimming Tournament Program. The rst meet was held at the University of Wisconsin Madison. According to WIAA records, the meet was held indoors because “the water on the lake was
too rough.” Afterwards meets were held at a variety of other sites until
1966.
Since then it has been held exclusively at the University of Wisconsin Madison. Free parking near the Natatorium can be found in Lot 62 on 525 Easterday Lane Monday - Friday after 4:30pm and all day on Saturday and Sunday. However parking is regulated during all WIAA events and costs a at rate for attendants without a permit.
