WIAA Fun Facts
Girls swimming and diving was conducted in a single division until 1992 when a two-division
format was adopted. Germantown won the rst Division 2 team championship held at the UW Natatorium with Rhinelander placing runner-up, while Madison West won the Division 1 title in the rst year of the two division format. Either Madison Memorial or Madison West won all the championships through 1983. Madison West has won the most State titles with 15, and Madison Memorial is right behind with 14. Madison Memorial and Madison West have won the most event championships with 81. Arrowhead

Bortizke has won the
most titles by an individual with 16. Maggie Zblewski of Arrowhead and Michelle Jesperson of Madison West are next with 14. Aja Van Hout of Madison East swam to 13 titles. Katie Drabot of Cedarburg nished her career in 2015 as the State Meet record-holder in the 50, 100, 200 and 500 freestyles, as well as the 200 IM.

In the heart of campus along the shores of beautiful Lake Mendota, the “Nat” features an eight-lane, 25-yard pool that is equipped with a Colorado Timing System and eight-lane, digital readout scoreboard. Pool depth ranges from 4.5 to 7.5 feet. The competition pool is kept at a temperature of 80°F while the 12.5 foot deep diving well is


kept at a toasty 89°F. The WIAA began sponsoring a tournament program in girls swimming in 1970. The rst two State Meets were held at Beloit before it moved to White sh Bay from 1972-1975. It was held in Madison in 1976 and Whitewater in 1977. Since 1978,
the meet has been held at the University of
Wisconsin
Natatorium in Madison. Free parking near the Natatorium can be found in Lot 62 on 525 Easterday Lane Monday - Friday after 4:30pm and all day on Saturday and Sunday. However parking is regulated during all WIAA events and costs a at rate around $10 for attendants without a valid parking
permit.
