vocabularies and conversations for hotel staff. Most
vocabularies and conversations are short and simple
that the readers may usually use in working life in the
future. I hope who goes through it will find it useful
and worth learning.

As we all know, Thailand has a lot of tourist attractions,
whether it’s mountains, seas, or waterfalls. It also has interesting
accommodation waiting for more people to explore. 20
accommodations that I would like to present to all readers on
the next page, located on 3 provinces that are popular in
Thailand including Krabi, Phuket and Chiangmai.

Krabi is the most relaxing part to be in all of Thailand, it is a
province that has the most stunning scenery imaginable,
beautiful white beaches that stretch on for miles, a jungle and
over 200 islands just of the coast.

In addition, there’s no way that tourists–foreign or Thailand
alike–never hear about Phuket. Phuket is one of the destinations
that people will always choose to visit at least once. There are
various types of tourist attractions for every possible way of
tourism, ranging from the sea, beaches, small islands around the
province, sites of extreme sports, and unique traditional
architecture

When it comes to winter, Chiang Mai is always on top of the
list. Chiang Mai is the northern Thailand’s economic center.
There’s unique culture in the province; plus, visitors can travel
there any time of the year. There are temples as well as
bountiful nature waiting for people to visit.

Moreover, accommodation is also important part of a trip and
there are 5 types of accommodation in this 3 provinces I would
like to recommend you including resort, hotel, hostel, homestay,
and guesthouse.
The reason why I give you about this information is I would like to
tell you that there are many types of accommodation in Thailand
you can work. I think these example of accommodation could
help you understand yourself what type of hotel you want to
work with them. Thus, If your dream is being a hotel staff, please

A resort is a place used for vacation, relaxation or as a
daytime getaway. While this can be a single structure such

as a hotel, it also can be a whole island or a ship at sea.
One of the most looked-for aspects of a resort is that visitors

are freed from most daily errands, which are typically taken

There are a lot of people, both Thais
and foreigners, traveling to many
provinces of our country. Therefore,
there are many types of
accommodation as well that are built
to accommodate tourists. What is even
more important than accommodation is
hotel staff.

From my perspective, hotel staff are
an important part of the hotel services
and it's a part of the happiness that
guests will receive from each of their
trips. Thus, I would like to present you
the various position in the hotel to
guide you what you need to do If you
want to work in this position. In this
content, I recommend you 18 position of
hotel staff that you can work from
general hotel to 5 star hotel.

Receptionist

1. Receiving visitors at the front desk by
greeting, welcoming, directing and
announcing them appropriately.
2. Answering screening and
forwarding incoming phone
calls.
3. 1.Receiving and sorting
daily mail.

Bellboy

Duties often include welcome guests, opening
the front door, moving luggage, valeting cars,

calling cabs, transporting guests, advising
directions, performing basic concierge work,

and responding to guests' needs.

Travel agent

Planning and selling transportations,
accommodations, insurance and other travel

services, cooperating with clients to
determine their needs and advising them

appropriate destination, modes of
transportations, travel dates, costs and
accommodations, and providing relevant
information, brochures and publications
(guides, local customs, maps, regulations,

events etc) to guests.

Cashier

Besides processing cash, debit card and credit card
transactions for guests, a hotel cashier is often

responsible for preparing and submitting daily bank
deposits. He may also be required to accurately

complete sales tax reporting forms. If customers have
questions or concerns about charges on their bills, the
hotel cashier should be competent in addressing them

to their satisfaction. If a hotel has safes or safe-
deposit boxes to protect valuable possessions of their

guests, the hotel cashier is frequently in charge of
guaranteeing the security of the contents.

Excutive chef

Overseeing kitchen staff and ensuring the quality
of food items. Their duties include hiring and
training staff to cook their dishes, expediting

orders to maintain a steady flow of dishes and
creating dishes to add to the menu.

Sous chef

Work with the executive chef to produce diversified menus in
accordance with the restaurant’s policy and vision, produce
high quality dishes that follow up the established menu and

level up to location’s standards, as well as to clients’
requirements, and plan the food design in order to create a

perfect match between the dish’s aspect and its taste.

Pastry chef

Pastry chefs are responsible for the creation,
decoration, and presentation of desserts such as
cakes, pastries and pies. General duties include

ordering ingredients and supplies for the
restaurant.

Bartender

1. Mixing beverages using an
extensive range of ingredients
including liquor, bitters, soda,

water, sugar, and fruits.
2.Taking beverage orders from

customers or wait staff and serving
drinks as requested, paying
extreme attention to detail.

Housekeeper

Making beds, replacing used towels with
new ones, vacuuming carpets, cleaning and

disinfecting bathrooms and ensuring new

good for the use of another guest.

Laundry staff

1.Washing, drying and folding clothes and
linens.

2.Laundry staffs employed in the hospitality industry,
for example, often are responsible for washing

towels and sheets, as well as the personal items of
guests. Laundry staffs also work for dry cleaners,
washing items like shirts and pants.

Waiter/ waitress

Greets customers and offers
restaurant or cafe menus, answers

questions about menu offerings,
processes food and drink orders,

carries food and drinks from
kitchen to tables, and prepares

bills and process payments.

Room service staff

Taking guest requests and
phone calls and delivering food
and drinks to the guest’s room.

Valet

Greet guests of the establishment, assist
with unloading guests' luggage, park

cars safely, retrieve cars for guests in a
timely manner, and ensure that parked
cars are locked and that keys are stored

safely or returned to the owner.

Butler

Providing personalized service to guests,
having a deep knowledge of all hotel
amenities for guests, working with all
departments (housekeeping, food
services, etc.) to meet guests’ needs.

Mechanic

Inspect and repair various energy systems,
such as the heating and cooling systems,

plumbing, lighting, and kitchen equipment.
You also assist with repairing floors, roofs,
and doors and installing new products, such

For the last content, I would like to give you
about vocabularies and conversations for
hotel staff. If you read the content before
this, I think you know that what is duties of
each position in hotel. Next page, You will see
examples vocabularies and conversations for
working at a hotel

But, hold on...

Let me tell you
something first

It is true that there are many position
in hotels you can work. But in Thailand,
there are only a few occupations that
often use English to communicate with
guests and this electronic book is about
basic English for hotel staff. So I would
like to give you an example of
conversation for 7 position including
receptionist, bellboy, waiter/watress,
room service staff, housekeeper, travel
agent, and cashier.

Receptionist

Single room1. = A room assigned to one person. May have one or more beds.
Double room2. = A room assigned to two people. May have one or more

beds.

Twin room3. = A room with two twin beds. May be occupied by one or more

people.

Triple room =4. A room that can accommodate three persons and has been

fitted with three twin beds, one double bed and one twin bed or two double

beds.

Quad room5. = A room assigned to four people. May have two or more beds.
Studio room6. = A room with a studio bed- a couch which can be converted

into a bed. May also have an additional bed.

7. Suite / Executive Suite room = A parlour or living room connected with to

one or more bedrooms. (A room with one or more bedrooms and a separate

living space.)

Connecting room8. s = Rooms with individual entrance doors from the

outside and a connecting door between. Guests can move between rooms

without going through the hallway.

Adjoining rooms9. = Rooms with a common wall but no connecting door.
10. Mini Suite or Junior Suite room = A single room with a bed and sitting

area. Sometimes the sleeping area is in a bedroom separate from the

parlour or living room.

Cabana room11. = This type of room is always adjoining to the swimming pool

or have a private pool attached to the room.

12. Smoking / Non-Smoking Room = Many hotels provide both smoking and

non-smoking rooms for their guests. In order to minimize the effects of

secondhand smoke exposure on non-smoking guests.

complimentary13. : This word means “free.” Often hotels will serve a

complimentary breakfast (included in the cost of your room), or have

complimentary shampoos and soaps in the bathroom.

toiletries14. : Toiletries are small personal items you might use in the

bathroom, such as shampoo/conditioner (for washing hair), soap,

toothbrush and toothpaste.

Receptionist

15. single bed/twin bed : a twin bed is the smallest type of bed, where one

person can sleep. It’s also sometimes called a single bed.

full-size bed16. : a full-size bed is usually for one person, but two people could

sleep in it (very close together). These are also called double beds.

queen-size bed17. : a queen-size bed is bigger than a full bed, and usually

shared by two adults.

king-size bed18. : a king-size bed is the largest size of standard beds, and can

comfortably sleep two people.

heating19. : When the weather is cold, heating will keep the rooms and hotel

warm.

internet access20. : If a hotel has internet access, it means guests can use the

internet somewhere inside. They might have Wi-Fi which could be free, require a

password to access or cost money to use.

wireless printing21. : This allows guests to print from their own computers to a

printer somewhere else in the hotel.

balcony22. : a platform outside that’s enclosed by some type of railing,

connected to the hotel room. Balconies are on floors higher than the ground level

(second floor and higher).

patio23. : A patio is a paved area outside (on ground level) that usually has an

outdoor table and chairs.

smoke-free24. : If rooms are smoke-free, it means that smoking is not allowed.

Smoking and non-smoking are two other terms used to describe if smoking is

allowed or not.

turndown service25. : This is a service that has housekeepers go into the room

and remake the beds. They might put a mint or chocolate on the pillow to show

the bed has been “turned down.”

curtains26. : These usually hang from a curtain rod to cover a window. Curtains

can be pulled open or closed to let sunlight in or keep it out.
