HAMAKOM HAPPENINGS_______________________

by Alissa Frankel, Education Director

I know teens are busy…and parents of teens are busy, too. That’s why there are many different ways for teens and their
friends to stay connected and get involved this upcoming year at Temple Beth Am. Teens can earn community service
hours through volunteering on Sundays and Tuesdays as Madrichim, on Fridays as an AV Teen, and through other
opportunities throughout the year.
Our Tuesday Night for Teens and Youth Group programming are great opportunities to see your friends, meet new
ones, eat together, learn something new, and have fun. There are also leadership opportunities available to help create
programing experiences and connecting teens to cultivate Jewish friendships.

TUeSDAY Night FOR TeenS

All 8th–12th grade teens are invited to join us every week on Tuesdays from 6:00pm–8:00pm at Temple Beth Am (first
night is September 6). Every week we will enjoy dinner together and then participate in fun, social, and educational
programs. Some highlights for this year will focus on philanthropy, social justice, holiday celebrations, current headlines,
and teen-led programing. Every week is different! To stay up to date on each week’s dinner menu and program, check
your weekly emails and follow us on Instagram at @jamty.tba!

MADRICHIM

Volunteer on Sundays and/or Tuesdays during HaMakom’s Religious School. Volunteering is open to 8th–12th graders.
Teens will enhance their leadership skills while being mentored by our teachers. Some of the responsibilities are to
assist with administrative tasks such as taking attendance, passing out flyers, and preparing supplies. Some of the more
interactive tasks may include helping students with projects, leading groups during small group activities, creating mini-
lessons with the teacher, reading stories, and working one-on-one with students who may need extra assistance.

JAMTY & JAMTY JR.

Our High School and Middle School youth groups meet throughout the year for social programs. Both JAMTY and
JAMTY Jr. have leadership councils that meet throughout the year to help plan and lead programs for their peers.
Our annual kick-off event will be Sunday, August 28 at 1:00pm. More details to follow in early August!

AV TEENS

Temple Beth Am is currently looking for teens interested in learning about AV to work during Shabbat Services.
Positions include running slides, camera, or lights. Please contact Jackie via email for more information at
[email protected].

For more information, questions, or to sign up for any of the above programs, please contact
Alissa at [email protected]. Looking forward to another great year together!

We need your college student’s address!

The College Connection program gives TBA the opportunity to send out surprise holiday packages
throughout the year to our college students. This is a wonderful way to let them know that their family
and congregation are thinking of them and allows the students to maintain a strong connection to
their Judaism. The packages will be sent out three times every year that your child is in college in time
for Rosh Hashanah, Hanukkah, and Purim!
If you would like to participate in the College Connection Program and have your college
students receive packages from the Temple, please send their college address no later than
September 9, 2022 to Alissa Frankel, Education Director, at [email protected]. Even
if they have received packages in the past, please fill out a new form (one per student) so we can
update our information.
A $36 donation per student is suggested. This helps to defray the cost of materials and shipping.
As always, your donations are greatly appreciated.

We look forward to continuing our relationship and support for your student(s)!

Bar Mitzvah of Jaxson Lawrence (August 13, 2022)
Jaxson Lawrence is a fun-loving, smart, silly, sports-loving kid. Jaxson has a huge heart, loves
his family and friends, and is equally a homebody. He loves every sport imaginable (to watch
and play) and knows every fact around.
The journey to his Bar Mitzvah has been unique—overcoming fears of the unknown to gain
the confidence to succeed at something new. As becoming a Bar Mitzvah is about coming
into your own, we have allowed Jaxson to decide how and what this process will look like;
empowering him to take ownership of his Jewish education and allowing him space to figure
out what that means to him. Giving him the time and space to find his voice, to use his voice,
and to be proud of that voice…in a way that feels right to him. We are truly blessed with
everything Jaxson has become in his 13 years, are grateful to be part of his journey & looking forward to see how he
continues to grow.

— YIZKOR BOOK REMEMBRANCE FORM —

During the High Holy Days, and especially at the Yizkor Service on Yom Kippur, we remember family and friends
who have passed away. It is customary to make a contribution to tzedakah in honor of those for whom we say
Yizkor. One opportunity for honoring the memory of loved ones is to include their names in our annual Yizkor
Book, which also includes prayers, poems, and readings. Please complete the Yizkor form below. We must receive
your Yizkor form by Thursday, September 1, 2022 to include your listing. This is a FIRM deadline. Forms
received late will not be processed in time for the name(s) to appear in the book. A donation of $18 per line is
suggested. Please contact the Temple office at 561.747.1109 with questions. Return this form with your check made
payable to Temple Beth Am, 2250 Central Blvd., Jupiter FL 33458.

How can you honor your deceased loved one?

By placing your loved one’s name on the Memorial Board
in the Memorial Hallway entering the Sanctuary.

When you do this, a light on their plaque will be lit on their Yahrzeit
(anniversary of their death) and their name will be included in the Shabbat announcements.

Their light will also be lit on Yom Kippur and their name will always be included
in the Yizkor Book during the High Holy Days. Even when you are gone,
your loved one will not be forgotten.

Plaques are $500 for the upper section (rows 1-12) of the Memorial Board, and $750 for
the lower section (rows 13-20). Call the Temple at 561.747.1109 to place your order.
