Marcheta P. Evans, PhD, became Chancellor of Bloomfield College of Montclair State University on July 1, 2023, following the historic merger of Bloomfield College and Montclair State University, the first between a private and public higher education institution in New Jersey. Immediately prior, Dr. Evans served as Bloomfield’s 17th President, and holds the distinction of being both the first African-American and first female to lead the College in its greater than 150-year history. As president, Dr. Evans led Bloomfield through the unprecedented times of COVID-19 and a complex strategic planning effort that identified the partnership that would ensure the College’s vital mission and legacy of serving traditionally marginalized populations continues. Through tenacity, transparency and perseverance, the College offers its majority first-generation and low-income student body access to a small close-knit higher education experience combined with the resources of a doctoral research university. Dr. Evans’ transformational leadership roles in higher education span more than 30 years. She has served at both public and private institutions, with the majority at MSIs in the seventh largest city in the U.S., San Antonio, Texas. Previously Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU), Dr. Evans sequentially served as Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dean at OLLU and Associate Dean and Department Chair at University of Texas at San Antonio. She has served as a faculty member for over 27 years and has the rank of Full Professor. She has served as the Presidential Sponsor for New Jersey ACE Women’s Network, past President and Fellow of the American Counseling Association, past President of the Association for Creativity in Counseling, and is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions. A small sampling of these recognitions includes the NAACP President’s Award, NJ Legislative Black Caucus Foundation Black Excellence Award, Outstanding Multicultural Leadership Award, Suburban Essex Chamber of Commerce Excellence in Education Award, Yellow Rose of Texas Lifetime Educator Award, and Counselors for Social Justice Ohana Award. Dr. Evans has authored numerous articles and book chapters, focusing on issues of diversity, multiculturalism, women’s issues and leadership, and has presented over one hundred times at the state, regional, national and international levels. In her international work, Dr. Evans has traveled extensively, including an extended stay in the African country of Malawi where she worked with educators and counselors on literacy initiatives sponsored by USAID. Dr. Evans graduated from the University of Alabama with a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Counselor Education and Supervision, specializing in Student Affairs, Administration in Higher Education, and Human Resource Management. Additionally, she has a Master of Arts degree in Education in Elementary Education from the University of Alabama-Birmingham, a Master of Arts degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Alabama. Dr. Evans and her husband, Edgar, are exceedingly proud parents of six children with five of whom graduated from minority-serving institutions. R.O.S.E. Award Recipient

In 2018, Britnee N. Timberlake-Charles is the wife of Newark Fire Fighter Dimitri Charles, Sr. She was sworn-in to serve as a member of the New Jersey General Assembly representing the 34th Legislative District, which is comprised of the City of Clifton, the City of East Orange, the City of Orange Township, and the Township of Montclair, Nutley, Bellville and Bloomfield. She serves as the chair of the Commerce and Economic Development Committee and is a member of the Homeland Security Committee. Assemblywoman Timberlake has sponsored numerous bills to improve the quality of life for all. From restoring voting rights to those formerly i incarcerated, creating funding for education and school safety, mentoring young men and women through her internship program, or tackling social justice issues, Assemblywoman Timberlake puts the needs of New Jersey residents first. Assemblywoman Timberlake has always been dedicated to putting working class families’ needs first. She was the first elected official in the state to pass a resolution in support of raising the minimum wage to $15.00 an hour. Her steadfast devotion to this initiative led to the creation of a bill supporting this policy, which was signed into law by Governor Murphy in January 2019. In 2020, she introduced a bill to preserve shift workers’ access to rest in between shifts. The bill, titled the Fair Work Week Act, permits shift workers access to consistent schedules that allow for time with family, rest, school, travel to and from work, and more. In January 2019, a bill sponsored by the Assemblywoman was also signed into law requiring the NJ Attorney General to handle the investigation and prosecution of a crime in the event a person loses their life during an interaction with or while in the custody of law enforcement. Cited as one of the first of its kind, this groundbreaking law garnered the support of the American Civil Liberties Union, the People’s Organization for Progress, the New Jersey State NAACP, the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, New Jersey Working Families, Faith in New Jersey, and countless other advocacy groups. In 2018, she called for a prohibition on the sale of certain toy guns and imitation firearms. The bill was created in response to the unfortunate death of Tamir Rice, an Ohio resident killed during an interaction with a police officer while holding an imitation firearm. This bill was signed into law by Governor Murphy in January 2020. After reports of unprecedented infant mortality rates and lack of access to prenatal care amongst women of color, Assemblywoman Timberlake was a part of a host of bills that were signed into law to combat these shocking health disparities. She successfully advocated for the passage of the following laws: requiring hospital emergency departments to ask any person of childbearing age about their recent pregnancy history; mandating health benefits coverage for fertility preservation services under certain health insurance plans; mandating health benefits and Medicaid coverage for breastfeeding support; and screening of newborn infants for spinal muscular atrophy, to name a few. Assemblywoman Timberlake is no stranger to public service. From 2015 to 2017, she served as President of the Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders representing District 3 – the City of East Orange, the City of Orange Township, the Township of South Orange Village, and parts of the West Ward of the City of Newark. While leading one of the largest counties in the state, Timberlake managed a budget of over $700,000,000. At the time, she was the youngest and the only African American female President of a Freeholder Board in New Jersey. Assemblywoman Timberlake holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a minor in Religious Studies and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Seton Hall University. She is the proud daughter of Philip Timberlake and Cathy Walsh Timberlake. Her father served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne, and her mother was an educator of the mentally and physically challenged. It is through their example of service that she has dedicated her education and professional career to helping people. She resides in East Orange with her family and is the mother of three children. She gives all glory to God for her life and stands on the word from Philippians 4:11-13. R.O.S.E. Award Recipient
