 A robot is a machine—especially one
programmable by a computer — capable of
carrying out a complex series of actions
automatically.

 Robots can be guided by an external control
device or the control may be embedded within.

 Robots may be constructed on the lines of human
form, but most robots are machines designed to
perform a task, but literally robot means a 'slave'.

 The 1st used of Modern Robots were in the

factories as INDUSTRIAL ROBOTS -(It is a simple
fixed machine capable of manufacturing tasks
which allowed production with less need for
human assistance) .

 In 1954 George Devol invented the first
digitally operated and a programmable robot
called the Unimate.

 In 1956, Devol and his partner Joseph
Engelberger formed the world's first robot
company.

 In 1961, the first industrial robot, Unimate,
went online in a General Motors automobile
factory in New Jersey.

 In 1942, the science fiction
author Isaac Asimov published
a short story called Runaround
in which he introduced
three laws that governed the
behaviour of robots.

1. A robot may not injure a human
being or, through inaction, allow a
human being to come to harm.

2. A robot must obey orders given it by
human beings except where such
orders would conflict with the
First Law.

3. A robot must protect its own
existence as long as such protection
does not conflict with the First or
Second Law.
