SRM University Sikkim, has completed its productive four years of existence in Sikkim. It was
established under the Shri Ramasamy Memorial University, Sikkim Act 2013 (Act No.13 of 2013),

Placement & Training Cell

A well-knit team of Placement Officer, Asst. Placement Officers and Coordinators lead by Chief
Placement Officer are proficiently working for building industry-institution interaction and corporate
relationship, nationally and internationally to bring forth numerous avenues for the students’ work life.
The Placement & Training Cell, with the support of Career Guidance Cell is not only facilitating
Placement but also provide finishing school training. The career guidance classes that has been included
in the curriculum of every discipline caters to the students’ personality development, personal grooming
and aptitude building thereby making the students industry-ready. Also, the final year students are taken
to SRM Institute of Science & Technology, Chennai, for a Campus Exchange program, where they are
given the opportunity to attend campus placement. The placement officials, SRM University Sikkim in

School of Management & Commerce

School of Management and Commerce was established in 2014. The School has two departments i.e.,
Department of Management offering programs BBA & MBA and Department of Commerce offering
programs B.Com & M.Com. Since its inception it has witnessed tremendous growth. As demand for
qualified, knowledgeable, and industry ready students are on the rise; the School of Management and
Commerce is taking steps to meet this challenge.

Management education in India has undergone a series of metamorphosis-from an elitist approach to an
open source, project oriented pedagogy targeting specific areas of operation. This has resulted in profuse
adoption of technology with the result that students passing out today are more industry-ready than ever
before. Management and Commerce education has its application in multifarious fields i.e., Banking,

Summer Internship
During the third semester each student works with an organization on a project for a period of a minimum
of eight weeks. The objective is to allow students an intense full time interaction with organizations.
Summer internship provides exposure to the student in the working of an organization in real time. It also
helps students to develop managerial skills and competencies, and facilitates an informed career choice
by the students. At the end of the internship, they are assessed on the basis of their performance during
the period by way of a report, viva-voice and power point presentation.

Main Project
During the fourth semester each student works with an organization on a project for a period of a
minimum of twelve weeks. The students applies the theoretical concept learned in the first three semesters
to solve a real time management decision making problem. The objective is to allow students to choose
a topic of his/her choice in an areas in which the students are comfortable or knowledgeable in a given
specialized field. At the end of the project, they are assessed by an internal as well as external examiner
on the basis of their performance during the period by way of a report writing, viva-voice and power
point presentation.

MASTER OF COMMERCE (M.Com)

Master of Commerce offers a balanced syllabus between theory and practical and takes care of the
requirement of the industry as well as the academia. Successful completion of this program opens up an
ocean of opportunities into multiple spectrums and fields, be it government or private sector. It not just
gives a chance to pursue a rewarding career in teaching and research; it also facilitates opportunities

Faculty Profile

Dr. Nityasundar Nanda

Dr. Nanda, Associate Professor, heading the Department of Management, has
earned his PhD in Management from Ravenshaw University, Cuttack. He has
completed his MBA (Finance) from GGS Indraprastha University, Delhi and MA
(Economics) from KSOU, Bengaluru. He has more than 12 years of academic and
2 years of corporate experience. He served in universities like Sri Sri University,
Odisha etc. His research interest include Stock Market Analysis & Portfolio
Management and Corporate Valuation. He has published articles in reputed UGC
approved journals and attended conferences and seminars at national and
international levels. He is a certified resource person of SEBI for conducting
workshop on Financial Literacy Awareness.

Mr. Amit Kumar Dutta

Mr. Dutta is heading the Department of Commerce. He is Post Graduate in Business
Administration from ICFAI University, Dehradun and also Post Graduate in
Commerce. He has a Diploma in International Business Operations and has qualified
UGC NET (Lectureship) in Commerce & Management. He has participated and
presented papers in National and International Conferences and Seminars.

Mr. Wangchuk Chungyalpa

Mr. Chungyalpa is serving as an Asst. Professor in the Department of Management.
Prior to SRMUS, he was working as an Asst. Prof. in Sikkim Manipal Institute of
Technology (SMIT) for seven years. He holds BBA & MBA degrees from Pace
University (NY, USA) and pursuing his PhD from SMIT. He has 8+ years of
industry experience working for private and non-profit organizations in the USA in
various capacities - as IT Manager, Production Analyst, Project Manager, etc. His
areas of expertise include Business Modeling, Process Modeling, Project
Management and Knowledge Management.

Dr. K. Kamalakannan
Dr. Kamalakkannan, M.Com, M.Phil, MBA, M.A (Psychology), B.Lisc, DAST,
Ph.D (PDF), Assistant Professor (Selection Grade), Department of Commerce. He
has 13 years teaching experience at college and university levels, and 11 years
worked as a visiting faculty for Distance Education in the universities of
Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh, and also support for Academic
Council Member from above universities. He has published journals in national
and international UGC Approved and Thomson Reuters indexed, and also
attended seminars / workshops / conferences.

Ms. Sreejana Saha
Ms. Saha is an Assistant Professor (Senior Grade) in the Department of Management.
She completed her B.Tech and MBA degrees from Sikkim Manipal University,
Majhitar, Sikkim. She has expertise in the area of Human Resource Management
and Project Management. She has industry experience of over 10 years in IT and
other sectors. She has worked with reputed multi-national companies like
Pricewaterhouse Coopers Pvt. Ltd., HCL, Wipro, etc.

Dr. Arif Hasan
Dr. Hasan [Ph.D, M.Phil, PGDBM, MBA, UGC-NET] is working as Assistant
Professor in the Department of Management. He has over 6 years of academic,
research and industry experience. He was the awardee of UGC Fellowship for
Doctoral Research programme. He published twenty research papers in reputed
journals like Sage, IIMs etc. which are also indexed in Scopus, ICI and others. He has
participated in twelve MDPs and workshops. Besides this, he also presented eleven
research papers in national and international conferences. His area of specialization is

Mr. Rohan R. Nambiar
Mr. Nambiar, Assistant Professor, Department of Management, completed his
BA.LL.B, from Sikkim Govt. Law College and LL.M from University Law College,
Bangalore University. He has three and half years of teaching experience He served
as a visiting faculty at ICFAI University Sikkim. He was practicing Advocacy in the
Court of Law, Karnataka. His area of expertise includes Constitutional Law. He is
also discharging as the Program Officer for NSS Cell, SRMUS.

Ms. Sherpa is serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Commerce.
Before joining SRM University Sikkim, she worked as a Lecturer at ICFAI
University, Sikkim. She earned her post graduate degree in Commerce from St.
Joseph’s College of Commerce, Bangalore in the year 2012 and cleared her UGC
NET in the same year. Her areas of expertise include Accounting and Taxation.

Dr. Wasif Ali
Dr. Ali is serving as Assistant Professor (OG) in Department of Commerce. He has
two years of experience in Academics. He has served as Assistant Professor at BIMS
College and Mumtaz P.G. College in Lucknow. He has earned his B.Com Degree
from Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varanasi and M.Com and Ph.D from
Banaras Hindu University. He qualified his UGC-NET and JRF in Commerce and
Human Resource Management respectively. His areas of interest are Human
Resource Management, Organizational Behavior and Accounting. He has National
and International Journal Publications (09) and attended Seminars/Conferences (25).
He is Life Member of Indian Commerce Association (UP517), Indian Accounting
Association (PTN60) and The Indian Science Congress Association (L32571).

Mr. Deepkant Gajmer
Ms. Gajmer [ MBA, B.E (Civil), UGC-NET ] is working as Assistant Professor in SRM
University Sikkim. He has over 9 years of industry experience working in the
Engineering and Business Sectors in the Lanco 550 MW Hydro Electric Power Project,
Department of Rural Management and Development Government of Sikkim and Hydro
One Networks Toronto. His area of specialization is Marketing Management, Human
Resources, Production & Operations Management and Supply Chain Management.

Mr. Peeyush Nepal
Mr. Nepal joined the Department of Commerce at SRM University Sikkim on 23rd
August 2018. He graduated from Shri Ram College of Commerce, New Delhi
(B.Com Hons) and Post Graduated in Commerce (M.Com) Symbiosis College of
Arts and Commerce, Pune. He holds a Diploma in Liberal Arts from Symbiosis
Center for Liberal Arts, Pune. He qualified the UGC NET in Commerce. His
academic interest lies with Cross-Border Trade and Workforce Diversity.

Mr. Dinesh Gupta
Mr. Gupta, Assistant Professor (OG), Department of Commerce, has one year of
experience in Academics. He served as an Assistant Professor in Sikkim Government
College, Burtuk and Sikkim Manipal University. He pursued his B.Com and M.Com
from Sikkim Central University, MA (Eco) from IGNOU and pursuing his Ph.D. He
qualified UGC-NET and JRF in Commerce and Economics respectively. His areas of
interest include Capital Market, Banking and Behavioral Finance.

Ms. Vishaka Lama
Ms. Lama is currently working as an Assistant Professor at SRM University Sikkim.
She has completed her graduation in BA Economics from Miranda House, Delhi
University and her post-graduation in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University,
Delhi. She has qualified the UGC-NET, and has started her career in the field of
academics with SRM University Sikkim from 2018.
