Food can be classified into
seven groups which are
• carbohydrate,
• protein,
• fats,
• minerals,
• vitamins,
• fibre,
• water.
CARBOHYDRATE
• are the sugars, starches and fibers found in
fruits, grains, vegetables.
• most of the food in this class are from:
i. grains like rice, wheat, oatmeal, and barley,
ii. grain-based foods like bread, cereal, pasta,
and crackers
iii. starchy vegetables like potatoes(tuber),
peas and corn.
• function of carbohydrate food is provide
energy to our body.
PROTEIN
• most of the food are from animal product.
i. lean meat and poultry such as chicken,
duck, bird and other, fish, eggs, tofu,
nuts and seeds and legumes/beans' group.
ii. milk, yoghurt, cheese and/or
alternatives (mostly reduced fat)' group.
• Your body uses protein to build and
repair tissues and help to growth.
FATS
• most of the food are fats and oil product.
i. fatty meats and fish
ii. Cheese, butter, ghee, oils (olive oil,
coconut oil, and etc)
iii. Chocolate.
• fats helps to protect your organs and
keep your body warm.
MINERALS
• found in foods like salts, cereals, bread,
meat, fish, milk, dairy, nuts, fruit
(especially dried fruit) and vegetables.
• example of minerals are calcium,
phosphorus, magnesium, sodium,
potassium, iron, zinc, iodine, selenium and
copper.
• minerals help our body to maintain
healthy.
VITAMINS
• found most in fruits and vegetables.
• example of vitamins are
i. Vitamin A,
ii. Vitamin B,
iii. Vitamin C,
iv. Vitamin D,
v. Vitamin E and
vi. Vitamin K.
• Vitamin is important to maintain our healthy.
WATER
• Water is important to our body.
• Water as a solvent to fats and
vitamins.
• We can get it from fresh fruit and
vegetables.
• Water helps to regulate body
temperature.

FIBRE
• Fibre is the indigestible parts of plant
foods.

• Fibre helps to keep our digestive
systems healthy.
