DBS E-Newsletter - : The Business Studies Department of the State University of Bangladesh hosted a vibrant and engaging Alumni Meet-up Program on January 19, 2024, marking a memorable day of reunion, networking, and celebration. The event, held at the Permanent Campus, South Purbachal, brought together alumni from various graduating classes, offering a platform for them to reconnect, share experiences, and celebrate their collective achievements. Research Seminar: How to Write An Article Let's grow together. Department of Business Studies (DBS), State University of Bangladesh (SUB) has taken the Initiative to start a lecture series on Research and Development. In this context, DBS successfully organized a seminar on January 18, 2024, "How to write a research paper". This seminar was jointly conducted by Dr. Mohammad Sahabuddin, Assistant Professor, DBS, SUB, and Prof. Dr. Shams, Head, DBS, SUB. DBS Welcome the New Students The Department of Business Studies (DBS) of State University of Bangladesh greeted the new faces of the BBA with a "Fresher's Reception" program. Honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman, Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Nawzia Yasmin, Registrar Brig. Gen Md Jamal Hossain (LPR), ndc, afwc, psc, MDS, MSS, faculty members, staffs and current students were present at the event. The current students share their experiences with the newcomers and welcome the freshers with a colorful cultural program. In the end, the Head of the Department Prof. Dr. Abu Shams Mohammad Mahmudul Hoque express that this welcoming session will encourage and uplift the newcomers' journey with the Business Studies Department and help mold their mindset in order to reach collective greatness on an individual basis! Seminar: How to Write and Effective Proposal to Ensure Research Grants The Department of Business Studies (DBS) of State University of Bangladesh (SUB) organized a seminar on " " on 3rd February 2024. The keynote speaker of the seminar was Dr. Syed Ali Fazal, Associate Professor, Department of Business Administration, Daffodil International University. Dr. Ali shared different aspects of research grants and the process of preparation and application for the grants. DBS is looking forward to arrange such seminars and training regularly for the development of the Business faculty members and students. Date: 03-02-2024 5


DBS Students Visited DITF 2024 A group of students of the Department of Business Studies (DBS) of State University of Bangladesh (SUB) visited the Dhaka International Trade Fair 2024 as a part of their study tour today 6 February 2024. A group of faculty members also joined this study tour along with the Head of the department Prof. Dr. Shams. The students interviewed several entrepreneurs and managers of different business organizations who participated in the fair this year. Later on, the students will present their insights and learning from this tour. The DBS encourages students to have practical knowledge of business which helps them to relate to their academic knowledge as a result they will have a better understanding of different business strategies. 7 - Department of Business Studies is successfully complete of its First-ever Alumni Reunion Program, held on February 9, 2024 at the Purbachal Permanent Campus. The event brought together alumni from various batches, creating an atmosphere of nostalgia, camaraderie, and celebration. The distinguished gathering was graced by the presence of the honorable Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman, whose visionary leadership has played a pivotal role in shaping the university's success. Alongside him, Registrar Brig Gen Md Jamal Hossain (LPR), Head of the Department, Professor Dr. Abu Shams Mohammad Mahmudul Hoque, and Muhammed Zakir Hossain, Coordinator of the Business Alumni Association, also shared their insights and wisdom during the event. The speakers emphasized the significant role that alumni associations play in fostering a strong and supportive community. They highlighted the importance of alumni in building a positive image for the university, not only through their professional achievements but also through their continued engagement and contributions to the alma mater. The highlight of the event was a vibrant cultural program, meticulously planned to provide entertainment and enjoyment for all attendees. The alumni expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the authorities of State University of Bangladesh for organizing such a memorable reunion program. Seminar: Developing Research Skills for International Careers The Department of Business Studies (DBS) of the State University of Bangladesh (SUB) organized a workshop on "Developing Research Skills for International Careers" on 17th February 2024. The keynote speaker of the workshop was Dr. Muhammad Safiullah, Senior Lecturer in Finance, RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia. He highlighted the scope and opportunity of an international career. Dr. Safiullah also focused on preparedness to go for an international career. Later on, the Head of DBS, Dr. Shams thanked the speaker for his time and cooperation. Seminar: Do's and Don’ts of A Presentation The Department of Business Studies (DBS) of the State University of Bangladesh (SUB) organized a workshop on "Do's and Don’ts of A Presentation" on 17th February 2024. The keynote speaker of the workshop was Ms. Farin Sohana, Lecturer, Department of Business Studies, State University of Bangladesh. She shared some amazing techniques and tricks to make the presentation top-notch and attractive. Date: 17-02-2024 11


An informative session on Study and Work in Japan An informative session on "Study and Work in Japan" was held by the State University of Bangladesh's Department of Business Studies in association with the University of Tokyo Bangladesh Office. A team from the University of Tokyo Bangladesh Office presents the scope and opportunities at Japanese Universities. They highlighted the preparation process of an interested student to apply at Japanese Universities with several scholarships and waivers. Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman, honorable Vice-Chancellor and Brig. Gen. Md. Jamal Hossain, ndc, afwc, psc (LPR), Registrar of the State University of Bangladesh were present at the event. The State University of Bangladesh (SUB) and the Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Malaysia entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on academic collaboration, research collaboration, students and faculties exchange programs, and some other common interests on 28 February 2024. Both universities believe that this MOU will facilitate the mutual sharing of best practices and resources for the development opportunities for students and faculty members of these universities. Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman, honorable Vice-Chancellor and Brig. Gen. Md. Jamal Hossain, ndc, afwc, psc (LPR), Registrar and Prof. Dr. Abu Shams Mohammad Mahmudul Hoque, Head of Department, Business Studies of the State University of Bangladesh were present at the event. On the other hand, on behalf of the Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Malaysia Prof. Dr. Fauzilah Salleh, Head of Research Cluster, Law & Business, and Dr. Md. Friendly Cricket Match Between DBS Alumni & Current Students The Alumni of the Department of Business Studies (DBS) arranged a friendly cricket match between the Alumni and current students of DBS, SUB on March 9, 2024. The cricket match took place in the playground of SUB. Honorable VC, Pro-VC, Registrar of SUB, and Head of the Department, DBS were present in the inauguration part. The guests welcomed such initiatives from the alumni and hoped that these kinds of activities enhance the bonding between the alumni and current students. Practical Knowledge for Better Learning: A Visit at Meghna Group of Industries The students of from the Department of Business Studies (DBS) visited the () on March 10, 2024. The department arranges such industrial visits regularly to enhance the practical knowledge of the students. There were two sessions in which the students got a chance to explore the details of the industry and got the opportunity to ask industry- related questions to the authorities of MGI. Moreover, they learn about the manufacturing process of their beverage products by visiting their production zone. Students were accompanied by the course teacher Farhana Haque Purnima, Lecturer, DBS, and BBA coordinator Muhammed Zakir Hossain, Associate Professor, DBS. Date: 10-03-2024 16


Learning from the field: Visit to Island Securities Limited The students of Financial Management and Corporate Finance courses from the Department of Business Studies (DBS) visited the Dhaka Stock Exchange, particularly Island Securities Limited (ISL) on March 19, 2024. Students were accompanied by course teachers Dr. Mohammad Sahabuddin, Assistant Professor, DBS, and Nurjahan Akter Monira, Lecturer, DBS. This sort of visit enables students to match their theoretical learnings with the real-world working environment. There were mainly two sessions where students got an insight into the stock market, specifically, they had the chance to explore trading activities with their own eyes and also had the opportunity to ask investmentrelated questions to the authorities of ISL. At the beginning, Prof. Hoque, HoD, welcomed all the students and discussed the aim of this event. In the second phase, students got opportunities to share their thoughts and present their queries. The students share their experiences on their academic and non-academic journeys. They also put some suggestions for the department as well as for the university that can upgrade their journey. The faculty members also share their thoughts on strategic development for a better academic experience. The department has already taken several steps such as a research seminar, career seminar, industry visit, mentoring program, business club activities and more are coming where students can participate and enhance their capability. Student First : Meet the Head of the Department Date: 20-03-2024 18 The Department of Business Studies (DBS) organized "Meet the Head of the Department" on March 20, 2024. This event was aimed at exchanging thoughts between the students and the Head of the department. The head (A.) of the department (HoD) Prof. Dr. A. S. M. Mahmudul Hoque was present along with MBA Program Coordinator Assistant Prof. Dr. Mohammad Sahabuddin, BBA Program Coordinator Associate Prof. Muhammed Zakir Hossain, and Business Club Mentor Assistant Prof. Dr. Sandy Francis Peris.


DBS congratulates Dr. Mohammad Sahabuddin for his participation in an international conference as “Key Note Speaker” from Bangladesh. At the same time for his 2 publications in Scopus journal. 19
