MYSTICAL & MAJESTIC
ANIMALS
Kayomi Harai
A FANTASTIC COLORING ADVENTURE
Welcome to my Mystical & Majestic
Animals coloring book!
Hello! I’m Kayomi, an artist who loves drawing animals. This
book features images of beautiful animals, real and imaginary,
that have seemingly always captured the attention of humans.
It also includes tips about choosing colors, basic shading and
blending techniques, and ideas for coloring backgrounds.
I usually work in pastels and watercolors that give
my artwork a very soft look, but some of these animals
(especially the dragons) call for more vivid and vibrant
colors and coloring techniques. Some of the animals in this
book are the most beautiful creatures alive, while others are
imaginary, magical, and enchanting. Let your creativity go
wild while you color, and maybe you’ll find yourself using
color combinations and techniques you wouldn’t normally
use. Don’t ignore that impulse; embrace it!

I Love Colors!
I just love colors! I can’t resist the temptation to buy big sets of coloring tools, even if I never get around to using all of them.
It makes me feel so happy and content just to be surrounded by a lot of different colors.
Some of the creatures in this book are mythical beasts that just beg to be colored in vibrant colors. For example, the dragon
below is a fierce, legendary creature that breathes fire and glides through the air with predatory grace. With a reputation like
that, this creature needs to be colored using the most brilliant colors in your supply stash. And don’t feel like you have to make
your dragon green! You can use various shades of red, purple, blue, or a combination of any color you want.

The Power of Paint
Sometimes I like to use the powerful colors and effects that paint can provide, as seen in my work on this page. Dark, rich
colors for the backgrounds make the brighter, vivid paints I used on the dragons really pop. The black-and-white designs in
this book are based on my paintings of the mystical creatures I love. If you would like to paint these designs, I recommend
copying the image onto thicker paper that will hold the paint so it doesn’t bleed through.

Dragon of the East
While Western dragons usually have wings,
those from Chinese and Japanese legends do not.
