About the Author

Jaeheon Yun is a puzzle designer based in South Korea. He
graduated from Seowon University with a degree in Industrial
Design in 2004; then, just before his first child was born in 2011,
be bought a scroll saw and began making toys. Find more of his

Introduction

Nothing beats a cute animal—except perhaps a family
of them! With that in mind, I’ve designed 25 different
animal “family” puzzles for you to try on the scroll
saw. They’re quick and easy to make; in fact, each
design is made up of no more than 10 pieces and will
take you around 20 minutes to cut out. And with none
of the complicated tab-and-blank curves found in
more traditional puzzles, these projects are perfect for
beginners. So fire up your scroll saw, grab your favorite
animal pattern, and get started. You’ll soon have a
menagerie of cute creatures filling your workshop!

Making the Puzzles

E ach of the puzzles in this booklet can be made using the following process. Modify
the size, wood type, and finishing method as desired. You could even cut one
puzzle from a variety of contrasting hardwoods for added interest. Note: All step photos
were taken by the Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts magazine team.

Prepare the blank for cutting. I recommend an orbital sander, Photocopy the pattern. Cut it out, leaving a little extra room
but you could also sand by hand if desired. around the pattern lines.

Attach the pattern to the wood. I recommend covering the Clamp the project to a drill press table. Then drill any holes
wood with blue painter’s tape, and then attaching the pattern to the the project calls for. Follow the recommended drill bit sizes in each
tape with scroller’s tape or spray adhesive. Make sure to follow the individual project.

lend extra durability to the project.
