ELEMENTS OF DESIGN

BY: CHARLES CANO
CLASS PERIOD: 7TH PERIOD

COLOR

• They are often found in nature, are harmonious and pleasing to the eye, and can be very
versatile. You typically want to choose one color to dominate (the middle color), a
second to support the main color, and a third color for accents. Make sure to have
enough contrast. Use tones, shades, and tints to add interest.

SHAPE

he second most fundamental element of design is shape, because
shape is the principal element of identification. The most important
thing to keep in mind when shape is the essential element in an
image is that it is best defined when the subject is frontlit or backlit.
For that shape to be successfully identifiable, it needs to be in strong
contrast with its surroundings so that it is detached from the clutter
around it.

TEXTURE

• No design element is more capable of moving your deep emotions than texture. The
challenge of seeing and capturing texture is mostly based on one element - light.Texture
can be accentuated by the side light of early sunny mornings or early evenings, or by
overhead light when the sun is vertical and high in the sky.

FRAMING

• Framing is the presentation of visual elements in an image, especially the placement of the
subject in relation to other objects. Framing can make an image more aesthetically
pleasing and keep the viewer's focus on the framed object(s).

TYPE

• Type is a fundamental part of any design it appears in. It can be used as text to read, as a
shape and as a visual element where the choice of typeface conveys an emotion or
mood.

• And it very important

LINE

• Line is probalby the most fundamental of all the elements of design. It is the starting place
for most artistic creation whether one is starting a fine draing or painting or even
sketching ideas for a sculpture. most design begins with line. So what is line?

• A math teacher would say that line consist of only one dimension, length. In the real
world of creating art though a one dimensional line would not be practical.A more
usable deifnition might be that line is the path of a dot, point etc. through space and that
is always has more length than thickness. Lines are not all the same, especially in art.
