Generation of Golfers

L-R: GM Andrew Johnston, Johno Beadles, Skye Neal, Gary Addison

The Club's Junior Golf programme is now in its 12th year. Over the past several years, the programme has been
expanding rapidly, as interest continues to grow. Our Head Professional, Skye Neal, was handling the programme
on his own prior to 2015, when we hired Trent Turner as the academy's Teaching Professional. Our Greens Com-
mittee Member, Gary Addison, spearheaded the sourcing of funds from members to make the monthly Junior
Medals a reality. Today, the team trains close to 60 children each week, with some still on the waiting list. The
programme is thankful to receive the support of member Kazuaki Takabatake, who graciously donated golfing
gear for the kids. We spoke to Gary and Kazuaki, two members who are helping the SGC Junior Golf programme

“The SMBC Singapore Open is a

top class event on a great golf course,
and I am pleased to be able to defend

”my title –this year. –Sergio Garcia

Earlier that year, the charismatic and
hugely popular Garcia arrived at the
2018 SMBC Singapore Open having
won the US Masters in 2017. He
definitely lived up to his star billing by
playing exquisite golf at Serapong to
win by five strokes. His final round 68
spreadeagled a quality field.

Now, the 38-year-old is in fighting form
for his second straight victory in the
SMBC Singapore Open to be played
once again at Serapong—the event’s
traditional home since 2005—from
17 to 20 January 2019.

“It was great winning in Singapore last year as a memorable 12 months for me came full circle,” said Garcia. “The
SMBC Singapore Open is a top class event on a great golf course and I am pleased to be able to defend my title
this year. Starting my golfing year in Singapore is definitely the way to go.”

ABOUT THE SMBC SINGAPORE OPEN
For the fourth consecutive year the Singapore Open will be jointly-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and
the Japan Golf Tour Organisation. It will be the opening event of the season on both circuits. Also, for
the third successive year, the US$1 million (S$1.37m) tournament will be part of The Open Qualifying
Series with the leading four non-exempt players booking their places for the 148th Open at Royal

that it was great news that the titleholder was returning who was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in
in 2019. 2017. The 54-year-old will make his debut at Sentosa
Golf Club's Serapong Course.
"I have heard a lot about the tournament and most of
the world's best players have competed there, so it's
going to be a great way for me to start 2019," said
Love.
"I have played golf all over the world and so I am really
