F O R M • Definition – a 3D object having depth • For example, a painting may contain curved lines, shadows and highlights which form the shape of a human figure. V A L U E • Definition – an objects brightness/darkness Example: If you took a black and white photograph of your painting, the shades of grey would be the different values or tones within the painting. C O L O R • Definition – an objects chromatic quality Example:A neutral gray will appear warm on a blue (cool) background and cool when on a red (warm) background. - Complementary colors are directly across from each other on the color wheel, and when used together they really emphasize each other meaning that they appear to be more saturated. T E X T U R E • Definition – the tactile quality of a surface Example: If you run your hand along a brick and then the hood of a car, they feel very different to the touch. In art, texture can be physical, such as a multimedia sculpture or implied, like a photograph of a piece of paper that has been crumpled up and then smoothed flat. Learn more: Newscred.
