INTRODUCTION ON UniSZA PROFESSIONAL 2 EXAM

The MBBS program of the faculty spans over a period of 5 years and was designed into two (2)
phases. The curriculum is aligned with the University’s and faculty visions and educational
objectives. The curriculum is designed to comprise of five (5) major strands; the scientific basis of
medicine, the comprehensive study of the human body, Personal and Professional Development
(PPD), clinical medicine, community medicine and preventive medicine and wellness.

The faculty has adopted an integrated curriculum in order to achieve its drawn educational
objectives and program learning outcomes. Early clinical skill exposure from year 1 and early
approach to the community-based problems are the uniqueness of the curriculum. Preclinical
exposure to clinical skill is initiated to stimulate the student interest and to nurture their
professionalism. Deliveries of teaching and learning are planned to achieve program learning
objectives and to cover all levels of educational taxonomies. The level of knowledge, skill and
attitudes in the intended learning objective are evaluated formatively and summatively
throughout five years of the medical course.

Regarding Professional Examinations, students are required to pass Professional I and
Professional 2 examination. The Professional 2 examination is an exit examination assessing the
competency to be a doctor. The students have to undergo the remedial Professional 2
examination if he/she unable to satisfy the requirement to pass the exam.

On this year, 2021, with the pandemic COVID-19 infection is still active, necessary precaution has
been and will be carried out, in line with the Standard Operating Procedure against COVID-19.
Examination dates are changed and arranged back multiple times due to the restriction order
movement by the government.

PRE-REQUISITE FOR PROFESSIONAL 2 EXAMINATION

i) Candidate must pass all EOP assessments done throughout clinical years
ii) Candidate must pass attitude assessment

i. Each pair of examiners will be examining four (4) students for long case (morning) and
four (4) students for short cases (afternoon).

ii. Examiners pairing are divided into medical-based or surgical-based field.
iii. Each student will ballot prior to examination day for them to be allocated either long

case medical based and short case surgical based next day and vice versa.
iv. For long case, student will be given one hour to clerk the case and 30 minutes allocated

for examination time/discussion with the examiners.
v. After examination time with first student, the examiners will be given 10 minutes gap

before the next student come in.
vi. For short cases, each student shall be given three (3) short cases and 10 minutes will

be allocated for each case.

FLOW OF THE BEDSIDE EXAMINATION

i. After briefing at BMU, all examiners will go to the respective students’ clerking room
for standardization of the long cases.

ii. Then, after student finish clerking case, the examiners will examined the students
starting at 9.30am.

iii. Process of examination will take place until morning session finish.
iv. During afternoon break, all examiners will go to the respective room for

standardization of three (3) short cases.
v. At 2.30pm, short case examination will take place after all students finish.

CRITERIA FOR PASS/FAIL, BORDERLINE AND DISTINCTION VIVA

A) The Result of PRO 2 Examination

1) The result of a candidate in the PRO 2 Examination shall be based on:

i) The candidate’s aggregate score being the total marks of the 2 components
(Theory and Clinical components)

ii) The candidate’s performance at a Viva Voce

2) Passing Marks:

i) A candidate shall be deemed to have PASSED the examination; if the candidate
has obtained 50% or more of the aggregate score, provided that he/she:

 Obtained at least 50% in all 2 components (Theory and Clinical
components); and/or

 Performed satisfactorily at the Viva Voce for student with redeemable
failure.

ii) A candidate shall be deemed to have PASSED the examination with
DISTINCTION if the said candidate:

 Has obtained 75% or more aggregate of the 2 components (Theory and
Clinical components).

 Has satisfied the Examination Board by his/her performance at the
distinction-level Viva Voce examination.

3) If a candidate has obtained 45% - 49% of the aggregate score, he/she is deemed to
be redeemable failure and may be considered for a PASS by the Board of
Examiners, provided the said candidate also:

 Obtained at least 50% in the Clinical component and at least 45% each
in the Theory Components; and

 Performed satisfactorily at the Viva Voce.

4) A candidate is deemed to have FAILED the examination if he/she does not
fall within the provisions of (1), (2), and (3) of this paragraph.

B) Remedial Professional 2 Examination

i) A candidate who has failed the PRO 2 Examination may be permitted to
sit for Remedial Professional 2 Examination on two (2) consecutive
attempts at six-monthly intervals provided he/she has not exceeded
the maximum seven (7) years duration. However, student is allowed to
appeal for the next attempt to the University in special circumstances.

ii) Format of Remedial Professional 2 Examination is similar to Professional
2 Examination.
