Cameron Highlands is about 1500 metres above sea level. Set on a highland, it is generally cooler than the cities. There’s
no better place to go to for a cooler place and to get fresh air and fresh produce. So, when my dad suggested we go there for a
holiday on 23 May 2021, we all jumped with joy.
One of the places we went to is the strawberry farm. Being colder, Cameron Highland is the centre of strawberry production
in Malaysia - along with tea plantations and vegetable markets. The cold climate makes it suitable for cultivating strawberries
all year round. We went to pick strawberries. They were big, round, red and very sweet too.
We also went to Cactus Valley. We strolled through the garden and were amazed with the beautiful range of cactus. They
look so pretty. We bought a few home as souvenir. Cactus is an extremely hardy plant. It is beautiful and easy to look after.
The most memorable activity in this trip is the hike at Mossy Forest. A guide took us to trek at the jungle trail to see the
rich flora and fauna in their natural habitat. The place was covered with mist and fog in the morning. We saw some of the most
beautiful sights around Gunung Brinchang along the way. This is indeed a memorable trip.

I am not in favour of the argument that modern technologies have made us lazy. Most of the technologies available today
are driven by human needs. Modern technologies may make us lazy but they can also make us more productive as well.
To begin with, with the use of a mobile phone, we do not need to step out of our comfort zone to buy anything that
we need. We could lie back on our sofa in the comfort of our home or at work to order our groceries or takeaways through a
mobile application instead of visiting the nearest supermarket or restaurant This invention enables us to use our time more
productively in other areas.
In addition, household gadgets like washing machine has improved our lives. This gadget washes clothes efficiently. We
may not even need to take the laundry out to hang as the drier can take care of that as well. This technology has enabled
mothers to spend more quality time educating their children instead of doing household chores that take up most of their
time.
Thus, we can look upon technological advancement as a means of improving human beings’ lives by taking care of
mundane and routine work so that they can focus on more productive work. When technology helps to take care of such
chores, human beings can spend time on work that requires concentration of the mind and increase productivity.
In conclusion, technological advancements are needed to improve the quality of life to enable people to live a more
productive life.

A wi-fi enabled doorbell is an excellent invention that enables one to monitor the home when one is not physically at
home. To begin with, this technology is an excellent security system. It enables you to view who is at the door or view who is
approaching your house when you are not at home. You can therefore alert your neighbours to help keep undesirable people
out.
Another advantage is it helps you to track who your visitors are while you are away. You may want to know who has visited
you while you are away from home. A wi-fi enabled doorbell allows you to play back the images captured on the video camera.
This enables you to identify and contact your visitors if you need to. This invention is thus a great way to keep track of your
visitors.
Finally, a wi-fi enabled doorbell also enables you to see who is at the door without opening it. It helps to keep a safe
distance between you and the visitor. You can even speak to the visitor via a smartphone without the person knowing whether
you are physically at home. This safety device is certainly an excellent security device.

Kitty is so endearing. She is like an angel sent to me. (Use a simile to describe the kitten.) Her looks melt your heart. I found
her dirty and hungry after having fallen into a drain near a bus stop on the way back from school last week. She was meowing
so pathetically in the drain when I noticed her. She must have fallen into the drain for some time. Shivering, she looked into my
eyes imploring me to rescue her. I put down my backpack, knelt down and bent over to gently lift her out of the drain. (What
did you do?) Pulling out the gym t-shirt, I carefully wrapped it around her to keep her warm. (How did you keep the kitten warm?)
Upon reaching home, I took her for a bath and dried her with my hair dryer. (What did you do to the kitten when you reached
home?) Kitty has dark beige stripes all over her body and has a long bushy tail. She has fur that is soft as a cloud. I fed her some
warm milk (What food did you give it?) and put her into a basket. She purred contentedly. I dressed her bleeding paw and it soon
drifted to sleep. Mum says that I can’t keep a pet as my sister is asthmatic, so reluctantly I had to find her a home.
The next morning, I went to my neighbour, Aunty May who loves cats. Aunty May instantly agreed to take in Kitty. I was so
relieved that finally Kitty has a home to go to.
Aunty May says that I can visit Kitty anytime I am free. I bade goodbye to Kitty reluctantly. If only everyone would take care
of their own pets, there would be no strays and the world would be a better place.

Hi Sofie,
I am so sorry to hear that your mum has been down with dengue.
I am so thankful to hear that she has been discharged. I am sure that she must still be feeling very weak. Certainly, all of
you must be frantic with worries knowing that she would be alone at home. Don’t worry. I am on two weeks holidays and I
am more than willing to help out. It shouldn’t take me long to be at your place if I leave by noon today.
On the way there I shall pick up some groceries so that I can cook something nutritious to help her recover quickly.

The first step towards staying safe online is to choose your online friends carefully. This is the first step towards staying
safe online. Remember that online friends may not be what they claim to be. When you accept someone as your friend on any
social network platforms, they can access information and pictures you have posted. Thus, think before you accept the person.
Be sure that you are comfortable for them to see the information you have posted online. The information once posted cannot
be removed.
If you are a cyber bullying victim, never reply or answer back. The bullies are often out to get you to respond to them. Deal
with the bully by blocking and reporting the abuse. Although it is sometimes difficult not to write back, it is always safer to
ignore and block them. Speak to an adult for help. If you do not wish to do so, call for helplines.
Always stay calm. Keep the evidence of the cyber bullying. Make sure you save or copy any cyber bullying texts or
conversations that has been sent to you. A good way to do this is to press the print screen button and save them.
Any cyber bullying you suffer should be reported. Do not suffer in silence. Do not try to solve the problem on your own.
Whether it is nasty comments, a text message, online chats or group bullying, it is still bullying and should not be tolerated.

Hi Auntie,
How are you? I hope you are in good health especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Do take good care of yourself. Do
you still go to the market to buy groceries? Please wear a mask at crowded places. We have an extra box of mask if you need.
Let me know and I shall post to you.
Please constantly wash your hands with soap and water. This is important especially if you go out anywhere to pick up
groceries. In addition to that, you should wipe down the places that you frequently touch. Do bring a bottle of sanitizer along
to disinfect the handles of trolleys at supermarkets. Stay home as much as you can so that you reduce the contact with others.
Please take care.

We spend a large part of the day in our school. The school is like a second home to us. We should therefore treat the school
like our home. One way of caring for our environment in the school is to keep it clean. There are many reasons why we should
keep the school clean. The main reason being, the school reflects the people in it. A clean school shows that the students are
responsible children who show care and respect for the institution that nurtures them.
To enjoy the amenities in the school, we should take good care of them. School amenities are like school toilets, public
telephones, school gym, libraries and field. These amenities are built for the comfort and convenience of the students. Be a
responsible user. Use them with care. If students are irresponsible, the school will have to spend a lot of money on repair work
instead of upgrading the facilities.
Another way to care for the school environment is to bring our own recyclable boxes, water containers and spoons. In this
way the school canteen will not serve food and drinks using polystyrene and plastic boxes. It is also cleaner to eat from our own
food containers besides helping to reduce waste.

Hi Shoba,
How are you? Yes, I received the mail regarding the one-month long e-learning programme yesterday. Well, I think it is
the best solution for now that the school is closed. The teachers will be posting information online. You certainly need to be
disciplined in order to get the most out of e-learning.
You will need to do some references from books before you start using the e-learning materials. This will definitely help
you understand better. We should keep in contact with the friends in our class so that we can discuss the materials posted
online. We can definitely contact our teachers too if there are any problems.

Dear Ani,
How are you? Did you read about the essay writing competition? I think you must take part in the competition. You have
such a flair for writing and have written numerous stories. I have read some of your stories and I think you have a natural
talent for writing.
Don’t hesitate. You just need to be a Malaysian student from a secondary school in order to take part. The word length
of 350 words is not a problem to you at all. However, the story submitted for competition must be original. This again is not
a problem for you at all as you are so imaginative and can easily think of an interesting plot to write on.
By the way the submission date is 30th of July so make sure that you hand in your story before the date. If you win the
hearts of the judges, you may just win the RM10 000 scholarship on top of RM 500 in cash. The prices are really attractive so
do take part in the competition. I shall be waiting for the good news.

Hi Tania,
Working during the holidays is really a good idea. It is one way of making sure that one does not waste time loafing
around. Besides, one learns to be more independent and responsible. One tends to value what he or she earns. It is through
our own working experience that we learn to appreciate our parents’ hard work.
Besides, they can use the money that they have earned to pay for their tuition fees and to pay for the books that they need
to buy. In this way, they will help to ease their parents’ financial burden.
Besides the monetary gain, the working experience will make them more tolerant, patient and understanding.

We can protect the environment by reducing waste, reusing and recycling materials. There are many reasons why we
should get involved in protecting the environment. Through such efforts we can save our natural resources, reduce the usage
of land for landfills and prevent pollution.
By reusing discarded products and using recycled materials to make new products, we reduce the use of raw materials.
This means that fewer trees are cut down. This also means less mining of the earth. In this way, we get to save more resources.
Reducing waste also means fewer landfills are needed for the disposal of waste. Although new technologies may have
made it relatively safe to stay beside a landfill, few people would want a landfill in their neighbourhood. However advanced
technology may be, landfill is a potential source of groundwater contamination and release of methane and other gasses.
Reducing waste and reusing materials help to reduce pollution. This is because almost all manufacturing processes release
industrial waste. The toxic chemicals released into the air is damages to our health.

In the wake of the pandemic, students around the world have to face the challenges that comes with virtual classroom.
I am most fortunate that my parents had got ready a computer and a set or earphones for me to enable me to attend class
without distraction. This is set up in the privacy of my room. To ensure that I do not miss out any lesson I get ready half an hour
earlier to log in. One of the challenges of virtual classroom is how to stay focused. I make sure that all the books and materials
needed are within reach and I do not have to leave the table when the class is in progress.
One of the most challenging issue about virtual classroom is that one can feel so lost and lonely. I stay in contact with my
friends all the time. We share materials and discuss any problems faced. In this way, we can encourage one another.
Virtual classroom is the best possible opportunity to continue with our studies during the pandemic so we must make the
best of it.

A hobby I have just picked up recently is cooking. This happens during the Malaysian lockdown period during the spread
of coronavirus. For the safety of all at home, we had decided not to go out of the house to buy food. Only my dad went out to
buy necessities when we have depleted the groceries. My brother and I decided that we would help out with cooking so that
our mum would not be too tired.
This chore gradually became a new hobby. It is not only interesting but also feeds the family. My brother and I would
research on how to cook from the YouTube. It is amazing what one can learn during this digital age as long as one is willing to
try.
Both my brother and I took charge of different meals so that we could cook a variety of food for the family. This means
we have to look at the food available in the pantry and plan out a healthy and delicious meal. This is certainly challenging for
amateurs like us.
This hobby kept us busy during our lockdown. We learnt to appreciate what we have and learnt the meaning of unity in
troubled times. The lockdown was certainly a good time for us to develop a new hobby as well as to bond with one another.
