1.INTRODUCTION

Sowing (or seed sowing) is defined as the process of placing the seed in soil to germinate
and grow into plant.
In comparison, planting is the putting the plant propagules in soil for growing plants.
Propagules can be seedlings, roots, tubers, leaves, or cuttings.
And transplanting is term used for the planting the seedling grown into nursery to different
field, pot or plot for different purposes.

Methods of Sowing

Seeds may be sown directly or transplanted. For transplanting, the seeds are sown in
nursery and the nursery is later transplanted to field. The methods of sowing are enlisted
and detailed as under;
a) Broadcasting
b) Dibbling
c) Drilling
d) Sowing behind the country plough
e) Planting
f) Transplanting

a) BROADCASTING

Broadcasting is one of the oldest and most common methods of seed sowing, where the
seeds are just spread on the soil; the seeds may or may not be covered with soil.
Broadcasting may be done manually, or through mechanical spreader or aeroplane.
manual broadcasting in pakistan
Manual Broadcasting

Advantages :
 This method is cheap.
 It takes less time.
 Only suitable for small seeded and crops where plant to plant distance is small or
does not matter.

Disadvantages of broadcasting :

 Seed distribution is uneven.
 Seeds may or may not be covered by soil.
 Seed density and depth are uneven.
 Non-uniform seed germination.
 Seedling vigor and hence crop stand is affected from uneven distribution.

b) DIBBLING

Planting procedure with dibble (dibbling)Dibbling is the placing of seeds in holes or pits at
equal predetermined distances and depths. This is done by dibble, planter or manually.

Advantages:

 Less seed is required.
 Rapid and uniform germination.
 Good seedling vigor.

Disadvantages :

 Time consuming.
 More labor and/or cost is high.

c) DRILLING

It is the practice of dropping of seeds in holes, the seeds are then covered and compacted.
Drilling is done with seed drill or seed-cum-fertilizer drill. Seeds can be drilled continuously
in a row or drilling can be done at set distances. Rows can be set according to requirements.

Advantages :

 Less seed is required.
 Rapid germination and uniform plant population per unit area.
 Manures, fertilizers and amendments can applied with seeds during drilling.

Disadvantages :

 Time consuming
 More labor and/or cost is high

d) SOWING BEHIND THE COUNTRY PLOUGH

In this method, the seeds are placed into the furrows ploughed in the field either
continuously or at specific distance manually by a man working behind plough. The depth of
sowing depends on the depth of plough.

e) PLANTING

Planting is the placement of seeds or propagules firmly in the soil for germination and
growth.

f) Transplanting

Transplanting is the practice of planting seedlings in main field after pulling out from the
nursery.

2. CDIO COMPONENTS

C-Conceive
- Since from past decades, agriculture plays a crucial role in the life of an economy. The

entire world depends on agriculture for food. Therefore, agriculture is mainly involved in
the production of basic food crops. Altogether, about 70 – 80 per cent of the world’s
population practices agriculture. There are certain parameters and different agricultural
practices, which needed to be followed for good quality and quantity of crop production.
- Nursery is the initial process of planting a crop. Nursery is the process of growing seeds or
seeds into seedlings that will be continued to the next stage (rejuvenation and
enlargement). The nursery process has several resilience and needs. If the stages and needs
of the nursery are not given appropriately then the nursery will have problems.Problems
that often occur in nurseries are moldy, withering and slow growth
- The best way to prevent it is to control the risk. You must water only when necessary, no
more, no less. We should think that excess water can kill plants, not only because of the
water itself but also because of what causes it to suffocate + general weakness & fungus
while for withered is discard the wilted parts and store in the refrigerator, soak in ice and
rinse with clean water and for slow growth is apply adequate fertilizer in stages

-unequal seedling enlargement -peeled tomatoes

- withered vegetables

D-design

-The leaves of the tree wither and to overcome the problem of withered leaves is to cut
withered vegetables,Discard vegetables that are wilted or no longer needed. For example,
overly wilted celery leaves can be removed and only part of the stem usedEven so with
beets, we can remove the leaves and use only tubers. That is, take advantage of vegetables
that still look fresh, and throw away the ones we don’t need.

Soak in cold water, Cut wilted vegetables ,vegetables that have withered or are no longer
needed of vegetables that still look fresh, and throw away the ones we don’t need. . For
example, overly wilted celery leaves can be removed and only part of the stem used.Even
with a little, we can remove the leaves and use only the tubers. That is, take advantage

Pat the surface of the vegetables until dry , After soaking in the air, do not forget to rinse
again to remove the dirt that is still attached to the vegetables. After that, pat dry with a
tissue or wipe until the amount of water left is reduced.

-rinsed vegetables -cut leaves

I-Implement
-Replace the pot
The first reason why plants wither may be due to soil conditions and pot size.
When the tree is large enough, then the roots will be more numerous and take
place in pots.
There is nothing wrong with replacing the pot with a larger one and giving it a
new planting medium.
This can give new life to plants
-Place it in an area exposed to the sun
If during this time he is often indoors and lacks sunlight input, maybe the cause
is lack of sun exposure. Therefore, move it briefly to an area exposed to sunlight.
It's good, not directly placed in direct sunlight, because it can make it wilt.Just
place it in an area that gets a little sun or on a terrace with sufficient heat. This
can give big changes to plants, you know.

-transfer of seedlings from small pots to large pots

-planting seedlings in sunny areas

O-operate

- The method is suitable for use by farmers to maintain the fertility of the
vegetables in order to get a lucrative and marketable yield.

-The method is also presented through courses set for smallholders in order to gain more

knowledge in the nursery.

- Courses for sowing

-sowing activities

-packaging vegetables before marketing

3. CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

CONCLUSION

Innovative seed sowing equitment’s has remarkable influence in agriculture . By using this
innovative project of seed sowing equipment we can save more time required for sowing
process and also it reduces lot of laborer cost . It is very helpful for small scale former . After
comparing the different method of seed sowing and liminations of the existing machine , it
is concluded that the solar powered seed sowing machine can maintain row spacing and
controls seed rate.

RECOMMENDATION

 To prevent the seed from spoiled , its recommend to soak the seed in pesticide
solution

 The usage of wood winegar can prevent the seed from infected by fungus and to
prevent rat from eating the seed after sowing

 The other recommend menthod to help seed germinate properly is by using a plant
booster
