Introduction

Welcome to this edition of the RDF Activity Report from Footprint Services.

A funny thing happened in April 2016 that went
largely unnoticed at the time; the ‘growth phase’ of
RDF exports from England ended. For a few
months, there was uncertainty as to the next
direction - would it resume its upward march or
would there be decline? The sector held its breath.
In the end, it was necessary to start breathing again,
because it became apparent that the market had
entered a ’plateau phase’. Now, in 2018, that
flatness continues, as can be seen in the ’Long Term
Trend Chart’.

The Netherlands still receives almost half of the RDF
exports from England, and so, if the appetite from
the Netherlands is reduced, this presumably spells
trouble for the overall figures? Not necessarily so.
Looking at the “Country Growth / Decline Chart”, it
is apparent that, although the Netherlands has been
receiving less RDF, this decline has been more-than-
compensated-for in the rise in exports to countries
such as Bulgaria, Norway, Poland and Sweden.
Indeed, these increases have meant that the overall
market is actually still in growth (+2.6% year-on-
year). Consider also that these figures do not yet
include “The Beast From The East”, which should
cause an upward ripple in the data (next month).

Another factor which continues to offer uplift in
these sedentary times is the export of SRF, steadily
moving towards accounting for 10% of the overall
export of EWC 19 12 10. The “SRF Exports By
Destination Country” chart shows a steady rise in
figures, with tonnages spread across a number of
key destinations. Uncertainty still hovers over the
market, but at the moment, pessimism appears to
be being countered with optimism in equal
measure.

5. Destination Analysis

Notes:

- This report provides a breakdown of RDF exports from the UK to other countries, with figures shown in tonnages along with the comparative percentage increase. For each
country, data is shown for the Notifiers and for the corresponding Consignees. The two datasets may show the same figures (e.g. for YTD exports), though this is not necessarily
the case.

- QTD is defined in this report as the most recent three months versus the preceding three months. Thus, for a report in July, "QTD" is defined as May, June and July; "Prior
QTD" is February, March and April.

- The "Year-on-year % growth" chart depicts the year-on-year growth % over the past 6 months. Thus, the bar at the right-hand-side of the chart shows the % increase between
the latest 52 week block and the preceeding 52 week block. The bars to the left show the same thing, but each is offset by a month. Therefore, the chart shows 6 months' worth
of year-on-year growth, giving insight into whether the company's export growth is sliding or increasing.

- The "5-year tonnage trend" chart depicts the 52-week export tonnages over a rolling 5-year period. The "Latest Year" is the 12 months up to and including the Reporting
Month. Year-1 is the same information, but offset by one year, and so on. Thus, when the Reporting Month is July, each bar represents a 12-month figure up to and including
the July of the relevant year.

6. Top 20 Exporter Analysis

Reporting Month: Feb/2018

Notes:

- This report provides a profile of the export activity of the top 20 exporters from England; their growth (or decline) tend, long-term export tonnages, destination countries and
their associated outlets.

- QTD is defined in this report as the most recent three months versus the preceding three months. Thus, for a report in July, "QTD" is defined as May, June and July; "Prior
QTD" is February, March and April.

- The "Year-on-year % growth" chart depicts the year-on-year growth % over the past 6 months. Thus, the bar at the right-hand-side of the chart shows the % increase between
the latest 52 week block and the preceeding 52 week block. The bars to the left show the same thing, but each is offset by a month. Therefore, the chart shows 6 months' worth
of year-on-year growth, giving insight into whether the company's export growth is sliding or increasing.

- The "5-year tonnage trend" chart depicts the 52-week export tonnages over a rolling 5-year period. The "Latest Year" is the 12 months up to and including the Reporting
Month. Year-1 is the same information, but offset by one year, and so on. Thus, when the Reporting Month is July, each bar represents a 12-month figure up to and including
the July of the relevant year.

- The "Supply Chain Analysis" is an algorithmic glimpse into the consignees the company is sending RDF/SRF to. This dataset is different to the main Reporting Date
information, so the figures will differ. The Supply Chain information is updated on a 6-monthly basis. The data shown in this section of the report was last updated in Dec 2017.
