DIRECTOR’S NOTE
I am delighted to be directing
again at Other Voices Theatre
after sharing the fun of
Noises Off with audiences
earlier this year. The plans
for this show have been
nearly 2 years in the making
after our original summer
2021 slot was canceled by
the pandemic. Despite our
musical being based on “…a
premise so absurd,” the near
dystopian future of our story
feels a little more plausible
every day. The satirical social
commentary on the division in our country is more relevant than
ever and I believe that comedy is best served by trusting this
cast to invest in these characters and make the stakes they are
facing real and meaningful. The script makes it clear we have
two characters with knowledge of the events to come – Officer
Lockstock and Little Sally – In a time where our own beliefs are
simply echoed by our news of choice or the algorithms of social
media, how reliable are our narrators?
Or just sit back and listen to every fantastic song and connect
the musical style to other famous Broadway shows, enjoy the
dancing and the fabulous costumes, and laugh with our amazing
cast as they help you escape the real world for a couple hours.
This is Urinetown!
