LangTstRonOPHY
The graceful trophy was first presented in 1957 by the insurance firm of Langham, Langston and Burnett,
in the memory of Ernest Langston. An international tennis figure, Mr. Langston served as the general
chairman of the River Oaks Tennis Tournament for eight years and his personal influence was responsible
for attracting the nation’s top-ranked player here.

To carry on the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships in the fine tradition of sportsmanship personified
by Ernest Langston is an imposing challenge. It is towards this end that the winners of the trophy strive.

Making his 10th U.S. Clay appearance, Sam Querrey HEIGHT 6’6”
has twice reached the finals at River Oaks, finishing
as runner-up in 2010 and 2015.

The Southern Californian returns to Houston just over
a year removed from reaching a career high of No. 11
in the ATP Rankings.

Twice in his career, Querrey has defeated the RIGHT-HANDED
defending champion and World No. 1 player at TWO-HANDED
Wimbledon, downing Novak Djokovic in the
2016 third round and Andy Murray in the 2017 BACKHAND
quarterfinals to reach his first career
Major semifinal.

Querrey has reached at least one final
in each of the past four seasons,
having won 10 total titles from 18
finals in his career.

In doubles, Querrey reached
this year’s Australian Open
semifinals with Ryan Harrision,
has reached a pair of U.S. Clay
doubles finals, winning the
title with James Blake in 2012
and finishing as runner-up

HEIGHT 6’10” John Isner enjoyed one his most successful pro seasons in 2018.
He finished in the Top 10 for the first time in his career following his
biggest title – at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Miami – and his best

career Grand Slam result, a semifinal at Wimbledon.

Isner, who will turn 34 later this month, has won more than 30 matches and
finished ranked in the Top 20 for nine straight seasons. He has finished as

the No. 1 American in six of those nine seasons, and his 14 titles are the most
among active U.S. players.

AGE 33 The 2013 U.S. Clay champion is the only player to have appeared in every
edition of the event since it moved to River Oaks in 2008 and boasts a 15-10

hit his 10,000th career ace, becoming the fourth ATP player to reach that

milestone. To commemorate the moment, the ball from that point was
taken out of play and is now on display at the International Tennis
Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I.

During his college career at the University
of Georgia, Isner was a four-time
All-American. In 2007, he was the
NCAA singles runner-up while

winning the doubles and team titles.
